Farting or blow off ?

Cheekytea · 14/11/2021 19:20

Help settle a argument for me

My two and half year old finds it very funny she farts she smiles and giggles and tells everyone she farted,
Hubby not so impressed I taught her to saying farting and thinks the respectful term to teach her is " blow off " or other phrases so I'm asking you all what do you call farting in your household ? And what do they say in school etc

Thanks

It's a smokey

Cordyceps · 14/11/2021 21:47

I would call the police if I heard anyone use the word "pump" for a fart.

My weird Hyacinth Bucket-esque cousins used to call it "doing a toot" and we roasted them mercilessly for that. Which is what will happen to your children if they use one of your cringeworthy euphemisms around other children. So watch out.

MotherOfCrocodiles · 14/11/2021 21:49

Whaaaat I had no idea there were euphemisms for fart! If DC fart I say "farty mc fart face " and we all fall about laughing

Tereseta · 14/11/2021 21:51

My 5yo calls it bumbeep and has since she could talk so that is what we call it now Grin

@JurgensCakeBaby

😂😂😂 I didn't mean Gary, I meant fart, even my autocorrect doesn't like it!!
I’m using Gary from now on

We say trump except for once on a full train my nephew said ‘I think someone has done a poo smell and I think it’s you' whilst pointing at some poor bloke

Tereseta · 14/11/2021 21:52

@Ineedaduvetday

Not acceptable in our household unless an accident. You're expected to go outside, bathroom etc rather than expose others to the stink of your bowels.
Sounds like a fun house Hmm
OnTheBoardwalk · 14/11/2021 21:56

'Stink of your bowels' 😂😂😂 I get doing it in a room full of people or every 5 mins sat on the couch isn’t the done thing but really 😂😂

DustyDood · 14/11/2021 21:57

We use Gary but nursery don’t like that as it’s the name of the managers husband. They insisted on trump but we kicked up a stink as that is my mother’s maiden name. So we have come to a happy medium whereby DD(2) “bum puffs” when at nursery.

Ozanj · 14/11/2021 21:58

The word is fart. No need to use another less specific word. Children should always always know the correct words for their body parts and bodily functions so they can accurately tell you if anything’s wrong.

User4272946730203 · 14/11/2021 21:58

Blow off is too close to blow job imo. It sounds awful.

DedalusBloom · 14/11/2021 22:01

We called it Blowing off when I was a child in our west London home. Moved onto fart when I was aware that no one really cared when you call it.

Now we just call it "I'm so sorry..." which is normally followed 10 seconds later by the other person saying "CHRIST!"

SultansOfMing · 14/11/2021 22:02

As children we had to refer to "doing a smelly" or, even worse, "making a rude smell" Hmm

My mother really hates the way my kids have always been allowed to say fart Grin

Fart is hardly a medical term. If anything surely the correct term is flatulence.
nordicnorth · 14/11/2021 22:04

We say bum pops! I love it! Or trump. My mum says pumps or poop.

'doing a smelly' seems so much more uncouth than plain old 'fart' Grin

The anti-fart sentiment defies all reason!

HalfCakeHalfBiscuit · 14/11/2021 22:07

I believe the medical term is 'floated an air biscuit'

What a disgustingly abelist household you live in
Geepee71 · 14/11/2021 22:08

We used passing or passed wind.

Hortonhearsadoctorwho · 14/11/2021 22:09

NHS and CBeebies both use the word fart.

Chubbycatt · 14/11/2021 22:11

Blow off is by far the worst term I've heard.

Pa55thegin · 14/11/2021 22:12

Whilst I didn’t like it when my little boy calls it a fart (he is 6 years old.) He does politely say “pardon me, I farted.” 😂

NoDecentHandlesLeft · 14/11/2021 22:12

All words are pretty awful to be honest!
Fart isn't offensive or makes one clutch their pearls when they hear it.
Blow off is awful, but bum puff just takes the cake.

WhiteVanWoman91 · 14/11/2021 22:14

Shart?

NoDecentHandlesLeft · 14/11/2021 22:17

@CallMeK

Why do you have to call it anything?? Why talk about it/draw attention to it? Filthy.

rainbowandglitter · 14/11/2021 22:20

I don't allow my 11 yo to say fart and I don't say it either, such a horrible word. We say trump.
