Why is this soooo bloody painful

Currently 30 weeks pregnant really suffering with this. Can't take anything but paracetamol. Can barely walk at times. Both feet hurt but only one has PF luckily.

Any tips to cope? I want to chop my foot off. Been advised physio might help which I can pay for but will it really help?! Thank you

YABU it's just foot pain get over it
YANBU I feel your pain

@HalloweenScrooge

Can you self refer to the pre-natal physio? One sided plantar fasciitis is usually a sign that your pelvic alignment is off.
This is an interesting comment thank you I'll look into this tomorrow!

I had it and bought some special insoles from Amazon - quite expensive at around £20, but well worth it as it "cured" the problem and I've not had it since.

spanieleyes · 11/11/2021 20:02

I second ( or possibly third) Birkenstocks. Sandals for indoors and shoes or insoles for outside. Certainly helps

sallyjuliet · 11/11/2021 20:07

@CaputApriDefero, Hi, I’m a Podiatrist and it’s quite rare for children to get plantar fasciitis. Have you had your child checked over by a Podiatrist to double check it is PF?

gavisconismyfriend · 11/11/2021 20:21

Shoes from Vionic- specially designed and are life changing for PF!

WishICouldButIDontWantTo · 11/11/2021 20:23

YANBU. I had it last year after taking up running after a break and it was agony! I was limping everywhere. Back to normal now, but think it took a good few months to resolve.

I've just ordered the foot massager £40
Foot roller £7
And insoles £17

Cheaper than a trip to a private physio but I will still speak to my midwife about anything they can offer.

I had the steroid injection which worked but wore off after a few months. Then shockwave therapy, years later now and it hasn’t returned.
My GP did the steroid injection but I know that not all of them do it.

Proudboomer · 11/11/2021 20:28

I have had it for a few years and now only wear vionic trainers and shoes. They are the best and you can often find a bargain for them on simply feet.

EmoIsntDead · 11/11/2021 20:35

I suggested for months and the hen started massaging my fgot with Voltarol gel every night girl about a week - cured it! I know you can't use that in pregnancy but bear it in mind for later!

I tried loads of other things amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07S5B44CX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 this splint]] was the best thing I used. It keeps the tendons in your feet stretched overnight so they don't tighten up.

TheWatersofMarch · 11/11/2021 20:36

The only thing that helped me was wearing shoes with brilliant shock absorbency. Fit Flops and (proper, new Crocs). Good luck it's horrible isn't it.

That's what they said it was. I have asked them if they're sure, because all appointments were held virtually, but they said they were confident in their diagnosis Confused

TotallySuper · 11/11/2021 20:37

Foot stretching sock also ordered!

You can get built up insoles for this and - and these really helped me - things called diabetic socks. I think they’re American. They have a very thick gel sole inside a double sock, really comfortable, made a big difference. Got mine on Amazon.

Seashor · 11/11/2021 20:48

Absolute agony. Hard plastic insoles help me and pure cherry juice which I buy from a company in Kent Cooks Yard Farm in Northiam. Cherries contain a natural anti inflammatory called anthocyanins. I drink a huge glass before bed when cherries aren’t in season. Good luck.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 11/11/2021 21:19

My physio taped my foot up, which relieved the pain. I walk a lot every day, I needed something! Left the tape on a couple of days (you can still shower!) and it was resolved. I fannied around with insoles and cold cans of Coke, but nothing helped.

There are videos on YouTube that show you how to do it.

Never had it back, either.

blueberryporridge · 11/11/2021 21:19

I have had terrible PF in the past, which started when expecting DC1, although I do also have an old foot injury which doesn't help. Here is my advice as I have learned how to control it.

Look up simple stretching exercises for PF on the internet and do them conscientiously - you should soon feel a big difference. I don't have to do the exercises every day or even every month now, but when I start having PF pain, I do them and it sorts it out quickly.

Never go barefoot - always wear a shoe with a heel. You will find out the heel height which suits you best. I have Vionic slippers for in the house - worth buying a good pair; they should last for years and make a huge difference in my experience. Buy shoes with good arch support. I have an orthotic support but find I don't need to use it when I have shoes with good support.

Good luck!

My physio charges £50 for the first session!
Catdogmum · 11/11/2021 21:22

Spiky ball or a half full bottle of water in the freezer for relief. I feel your pain!

Yogawankonobi · 11/11/2021 21:27

I used running shoes and a arch support insert that was a couple of pounds on Amazon.

Bellevu · 11/11/2021 21:51

Crocs clogs as indoor slippers. Seriously a life changer.

HalloweenScrooge · 11/11/2021 22:34

@TotallySuper I had terrible PF with my second pregnancy. Appeared on just the one side at about 14 weeks but was fairly constant by the third trimester. I saw a physio late in pregnancy who spotted that my pelvis had basically become lopsided and fixed it. I had further sessions postnatally over about 6 months to keep correcting it as my body slowly went back to normal.
