Tickets for concerts as a gift.

Hi All

AIBU to think that a ticket company has no solution better than this?

Bought 2 x Ed Sheeran tickets as a Christmas present for my daughter. I have no way of actually transferring them to her. So it look's like I will have to go up to Wembley on the day of the concert to get them in?

Email response from Eventim.

*Hi

Thanks for getting in touch.

The matching ID of the surname of the lead booker will be an entry requirement, the other tickets bought by that person can be used for other people as long as they ALL arrive with the lead booker. If you want to buy as gifts then you’ll also have to attend to get your recipients into the show.

Kind regards,

EVENTIM UK Customer Care Team*

I hate scalpers and touts but how do you buy tickets for anyone anymore.

Doesn't help now but surely you can just buy them in the recipient's name in future?

The card used has to match the ticket name too.

It’s not great.

Not sure if tickets are linked to payment method? But good point.

If its a good friend could you give them your ID ?

Its my 15 year old daughter - I have a big beard :)

Wouldn't you have to take them anyway, how else would they get there?

But yes it is stupid, especially if the card also has to match as not everyone has a card they could pay with e.g. under 18s

Rachie1973 · 11/11/2021 12:19

Totally off topic but can you be my Dad? I’d love Ed Sheeran tickets :)

IncyWincyGrownUp · 11/11/2021 12:19

I have had this issue this week when I tried to book gig tickets for a friend for Christmas. I’ve ended up buying a gift card so the person I wanted to give the gift to can book themselves.

Not much use when you’ve already booked the tickets though.

Scalpers really have fucked things up for everyone else.

thevassal · 11/11/2021 12:19

Um I don't want to upset you further but I read that message as in you don't just have to go with them to get them into the show, you have to actually attend the show yourself, I.e. one of the two tickets must be for you?

Hope I'm wrong but that's how I read it!

You have upset me further! She wants to take a mate - not go with her "old man" unfortunately.

Have asked this question of Eventim as I am a little confused as well.

The issue with this is that tickets can be very hard to get for popular events and a gift card would miss out on getting a particular concert.

well if she's 15 she'll appreciate the lift to get there.

hanahsaunt · 11/11/2021 12:39

IIRC on Ticketmaster you can assign your tickets to someone else to get around this issue. Can you ask that of Eventim?

Fromablokespoint · 11/11/2021 12:40

I actually agree to an extent as I have missed out on many concerts that scalpers and touts have bought up. There must be a middle ground of some sort - maybe named tickets as opposed to the actual purchaser?

We recently got tickets for Coldplay next year - I was lucky enough to be the purchaser but had 4-5 people in the office in the queue trying for me at the same time, would have caused the same problem if any of them had been successful.

Unfortunately it will be by train - now need suggestions for a night out in Wembley :)

It's a shame but take advantage of it. Take them up there, get them in then find something fun to do til it's time to pick them up.

Straightomyhead · 11/11/2021 12:46

My dad has bought my lots of tickets before (mostly because I am at work when they go on sale and I pay him back after) and I haven't had a problem getting into any of the gigs.

I used to take his credit card with me, with my ID to cross check them. We have the same surname, but I think it was only checked once.

This is a genuine gift so shouldn't have a problem but don't quote me on that, just my past experience.

Straightomyhead · 11/11/2021 12:49

I'll also add I'm 30 and have been to loads of gigs with my dad, so it's more common that you think. The last being in 2019.

Maybe our joint heavy rock indie taste helps this

I think that's the answer.

21 Pilots are at the SSE Arena that night! - don't really know them but hey, "live music".

I have never encountered anything like this. I've never been id'd to get into a gig.
Just hand over ticket and go in.
How bizarre!

Got a daughter heading into teen years and would be interested in how this goes for the future of booking her tickets!

Me neither. I think tickets being etickets are the issue.

I think as soon as they start to go to concerts on without you then a debit card of some sort is the answer.
With hindsight I would have transferred the money and used her card (which she has)

Twenty One Pilots > Ed Sheran

nancy75 · 11/11/2021 12:57

I took my daughter to see Ed Sheeran a few years ago, took loads of ID to make sure it exactly matched the tickets - nobody asked for it or looked at it once. Same with everything I've taken her to (and we go to quite a lot of concerts)
I would just let her take a bank card with your name on it (probably best if it's one without a picture of your beard!)
They say they are going to be super strict but when security have got 90 thousand people to get in to a venue on time they just don't bother.

Beachtrip · 11/11/2021 12:59

So if the ticket is in the app, can you log into the app on her Device and she just shows the QR thing?
Most ticket checkers aren't gonna question much more then that, too many people to scan and get inside
