I’m on diazepam for my back - taking one at night and one after breakfast. Feel the muscle relaxant properties but not caned.

It says ‘avoid’ alcohol. How strict do I need to be?

I’m not a lush but fancy a glass tonight after a touch few days.

YABU - bad idea you twat
YANBU - one glass will be fine you twat

YABU

Merryoldgoat · 10/11/2021 19:38

That’s what I suspected.

Oof, I wouldn't. But then I hated the way diazepam made me feel - permanently seasick. I wouldn't have wanted to add alcohol to that!

AlbusDumbledore2234 · 10/11/2021 19:40

I had a glass of red wine I think it was years ago around Christmas time whilst taking diazepam for a similar reason.

I didn't wake up until the following afternoon about 1pm!

So probably not wise but everybody reacts differently Grin

stealingbeauty · 10/11/2021 19:41

What dose are you taking?

Changethetoner · 10/11/2021 19:41

It is likely to make you fall asleep.

AlbusDumbledore2234 · 10/11/2021 19:42

@stealingbeauty

What dose are you taking?
Yes this could make a big difference. Are you on 2mg or 10mg?

(I was taking 10mg for reference)

StephenQueen · 10/11/2021 19:43

I think it's fine to have a glass of wine with dinner on 2-4mg.

Definitely wouldn't have several gins on 10mg though.

LettertoHermoine · 10/11/2021 19:59

Be careful, one or 2 maybe ok but more than that can knock you out.

BurntTheFuckOut · 10/11/2021 20:02

What dose?

I take it, 2-6mg a day and I wouldn’t drink on it. My Psychiatrist said it was an absolute nope.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 10/11/2021 20:02

Bad idea, my dad fell quite badly doing that.

Binxthecat · 10/11/2021 20:02

I was fine although it make me so sleepy. One won’t hurt, just be careful. Hope your back feels better soon.

Elieza · 10/11/2021 20:03

You’d have to be very careful. I’d suggest you avoid.

Taking something that relaxes you along with something else that relaxes you could put you into too deep a sleep. You don’t want your vital organs slowing down too much!

shinynewapple21 · 10/11/2021 20:03

It probably depends on the strength of the diazepam. I take them for flying and often drink alcohol on top. I wouldn't drive afterwards though!

BurntTheFuckOut · 10/11/2021 20:03

It’s less about being sleepy and far more about depressing your respiratory system.

AtrociousCircumstance · 10/11/2021 20:03

I’ve done it, on a plane. It was pretty blissful although I felt verrrrrry out of it Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/11/2021 20:04

It says avoid alcohol so you need to avoid it.

DaisyNGO · 10/11/2021 20:06

I can take 5mg and have a couple of drinks
But this is occasional use, I did it a couple of times when my mother was in hospital and once on a plane
There was probably a couple of hours gap

But you are taking it regularly and it will have accumulated in your system?

It got me a couple of hours kip on the plane but it will knock some people out for hours.

AmandaHugenkiss · 10/11/2021 20:06

Diazepam is a respiratory depressant (slows down your breathing and makes it shallow). Alcohol is the same. Both together run the risk you could stop breathing in your sleep. That’s my understanding of the risk, anyway.

MintyGreenDream · 10/11/2021 20:07

I have done on the plane (nervous flyer)

Same. I've been doing it for years, just be careful if you've never done it before, sip the wine.

That’s exactly it.

Not a risk I’m willing to run.

Starryskiesinthesky · 10/11/2021 20:13

There are labels for substances that say 'Do not take alcohol' so avoid alcohol is a step down from that. It is likely to increase the sedative effects of the Diazepam.

Merryoldgoat · 10/11/2021 20:16

I have been prescribed 5mg 3x per day but only having 2 but given the responses I won’t have anything. I’ll have a bath instead.
