I’m on diazepam for my back - taking one at night and one after breakfast. Feel the muscle relaxant properties but not caned.

It says ‘avoid’ alcohol. How strict do I need to be?

I’m not a lush but fancy a glass tonight after a touch few days.

YABU - bad idea you twat
YANBU - one glass will be fine you twat

@BurntTheFuckOut

It’s less about being sleepy and far more about depressing your respiratory system.
This ^^

Diazepam and alcohol don't mix at all and can depress your breathing. Same with codeine and alcohol

Also it's not great for your liver to mix some medications and alcohol

I'd skip the diazepam that night if you had a big glass of wine 🍷

Randomactofkindness · 10/11/2021 21:04

Definitely a no - as pp said both are respiratory depressants - clinical pharmacist here……..

Isababybel · 10/11/2021 21:07

Yes the risk is that you could stop breathing. You would probably have to drink a fair bit (more than you are suggesting) but its not worth finding out!

MissCruellaDeVil · 10/11/2021 21:08

I've drank on diazepam (was prescribed it for extreme anxiety) and would not recommend it!

Would a non alcoholic wine work. Im a big fan of non alcoholic beer when i fancy a drink! I wouldnt mix

Isolateykatey · 10/11/2021 21:12

You’d likely fall asleep (probably not die in your sleep but it’s a risk you’d be taking) and feel like you have the hangover from hell tomorrow.

Valeriane · 10/11/2021 21:47

Once I had a few drinks after taking codeine and I swear I felt myself slipping away. It was terrifying

Merryoldgoat · 11/11/2021 08:29

Thank you all - I stuck to just the drugs and managed a decent night’s sleep albeit with a refresh of the hot water bottle at 4am.

I’ll save the wine for the weekend when the diazepam course is finished,

I've spent many a flight on that combo.....

Otherpeoplesteens · 11/11/2021 10:59

Is that you Charlotte? Asking on behalf of fallen soldiers.

Gwenhwyfar · 11/11/2021 11:02

@Starryskiesinthesky

There are labels for substances that say 'Do not take alcohol' so avoid alcohol is a step down from that. It is likely to increase the sedative effects of the Diazepam.
Yes, so personally I probably would, but would be careful.
LittleGwyneth · 11/11/2021 11:33

I would if it's a low dose and you've got a decent tolerance for alcohol.

Merryoldgoat · 11/11/2021 15:11

@Otherpeoplesteens I don’t know what that means…

www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/nov/11/three-mps-accused-of-drunken-conduct-on-armed-forces-gibraltar-trip

Charlotte Nichols MP got rat-arsed on a flight to a troop-visit in Gibraltar for Armistice Day. Had to be carted through the airport in a wheelchair at the other end. Blamed the medication.

Otherpeoplesteens · 11/11/2021 15:32

Needless to say the Daily Fail's coverage was somewhat less complementary.

Merryoldgoat · 11/11/2021 16:00

Ahhhh!

Er… no. Just an accountant with a bad back.
