AIBU to ask neighbour to move appliance because of noise?

NC for this

I live in a terrace. My neighbours on one side are very nice and I really like them. I really don't want to fall out or cause any tension.

But they have an appliance which vibrates through the walls and drives me nuts.

The rest of my family don't mind it.

I have a problem with noise and vibration, suspected ADHD (waiting for assessment) so I know I'm not 'normal'

Am I being unreasonable to ask them to try moving it away from the wall?

YABU: suck it up, you live in a terrace
YANBU: no harm in asking

I'm glad they were so nice about it.
I have an air purifier, it sits on a wooden floor and I found that it vibrates a bit which annoys me, so I put a rubber mat under it and that silenced the vibration. So hopefully there will be an easy fix for the dehumidifer.

Thats good of them. I wonder why they need to have it on so much anyway? Not sure what the purpose is. But glad they've been kind.

Good result

It sounds like you and your neighbours are so respectful of each other

My neighbours came and asked if I could move my treadmill (lockdown purchase) as they could hear me thumping on it.

I had no issue with moving it to away from the wall and putting a rug underneath.

All part of being a considerate neighbour.

I wonder why they need to have it on so much anyway? I can only tell you about our need - bathroom because there is no vent and no way of putting an effective one in. So we use it after every bath and shower.

We also use it generally, to reduce the humidity in the house, damp/condensation prevention.

Before anyone asks, listed house in a conservation area and the bathroom is at the front of the house . There's no way we could add anything without someone complaining Smile

Ah I see. God I'd hate to live in a house that feels damp and needs something on to clear it. We live in a 60s very warm and sound house, it's all been replastered etc which I guess helps too. I feel for those that need to combat damp in their homes. For the bathroom we don't have a fan either but just open the window.

Badvibrations · 09/11/2021 14:14

Seems like whatever they've done has really helped.

I'm so grateful to them and am planning a nice thank you gift Smile

Thanks to everyone on the thread, I'm going to name change now that it's resolved!

The house doesn't feel damp. It's just a timber framed building built in the late 1400s. So we take good care of it 😊

What a drama-free neighbour thread! It's a revelation Grin

As an aside, I have ASD and ADHD and the Flare Calmer earplugs didn't do anything for me. I personally love the Loop Experience ones but it's so personal, I know people who loved the Flare ones. You can get both from Amazon with their standard returns policy, which means it's risk-free to try them both Smile

It's probably the feet on the washing machine.

Tell them. Don't let it fester they'd probably be mortified

mumwon · 09/11/2021 15:16

ahem "Hi I hope you don't mind me asking this but- I can hear one of your appliances I think it must be close to the wall is there any chance it could be moved?" or polite words to that affect

Badvibrations · 09/11/2021 15:17

Thank you, I've already contacted them and they've been ace.
