Someone sat across from my house in the car

There's someone sat across from my house in their car with their front and back lights on and they've been there for the past hour. It's 01.50am.

It's a busy road and they're just off the road up a side street.

What could they be doing?

If you were that concerned about them why would you open your door to collect your milk at 3am? Confused

RainbowBriteUk · 08/11/2021 08:47

@Treefloss I said upthread that I wasn't scared. Just curious. So there we go.

What time did the car leave op?

Cheeseandlobster · 08/11/2021 08:52

@avamiah Call the police? Really? And say what? There is a car parked on a public road. No officer, they haven't committed a crime as far as I can see. No its a public road. No they haven't threatened me or anyone else. What a spectacular waste of police time that would be.

RainbowBriteUk · 08/11/2021 09:08

@xxxGirlCrushxxx The car is still there minus a person. I think it may have been someone sleeping in the car.

Is it a man or a woman? If it's a woman, I might have gone outside to ask if she's ok / needs help. I remember being in an abusive relationship and sometimes just driving around / sitting somewhere in my car when it wasn't safe to go home.
It's an odd time to sit in the car outside.

LaBellina · 08/11/2021 09:39

Sorry it WAS an odd time to be sitting in their car. Are they still there?

Underkill · 08/11/2021 09:44

I used to do this at various stages of my doomed marriage. Just to get some peace.

TurnUpTurnip · 08/11/2021 09:53

Gosh there is always cars parked up near mine with someone in late at night, I don’t care, call the police? 🙄 ask them if they are ok? 🤦‍♀️ At 3am!

GraceandFrankie · 08/11/2021 09:55

How would we know?

nurserypolitics · 08/11/2021 09:57

Trying to not move a sleeping baby? Not going inside because they know as soon as they do the ninja like sense of the sleeping baby will kick in?

Pumpkinstace · 08/11/2021 09:58

I do this a lot.

I'm a night time delivery driver and sometimes park up somewhere while waiting for a job to come through.

CounsellorTroi · 08/11/2021 09:59

If nothing else they are draining their car battery. Very strange.

Kiduknot · 08/11/2021 10:00

I’d be curious

creamcrackerdmum · 08/11/2021 10:05

I did this the other day, my midwife rang me quite late at night so I pulled over. The neighbours came out banging on my window, weirdos!

MadameMonk · 08/11/2021 10:12

That’s my mate Ted. He’s on the phone to me on the other side of the world. He doesn’t want to disturb his partner, we do tend to have a right old chuckle when we catch up. You’re right, he did see your boob. He told me. He said you have a lovely figure, and hopes you get a good night’s sleep. Maybe a hot milk? Hope that helps.

Comedycook · 08/11/2021 10:17

It is my business who is sat across from my house in the early hours. I make it my business!

You don't own the road. You sound like a right busy body.

2021s · 08/11/2021 10:19
  • I’m sitting in my car in the dark getting some headspace from my partner after an almighty row and a woman keeps watching me from her window and has now come to the door and flashed me, should I be worried?

Is there an airport or hospital near you? I’ve spent many an hour sitting waiting on someone from either of those!

Clocktopus · 08/11/2021 10:23

Uber driver to taxi driver in between jobs.

Had an argument with his wife and having a sulk and angry-snack in the car before going home.

Someone from benefits and credits watching a particular house as part of a benefit fraud investigation.

Same as the above but the police rather than the DWP or HMRC.

Someone visiting an elderly/unwell parent or friend who has needed help and having a quick snack before going home.

Someone travelling to elsewhere, driving through the night, and has pulled over for a break and something to eat.

There are a hundred perfectly innocent explanations.

parent picking up a teenager from a party

Prattypatel · 08/11/2021 12:56

I think Curtain Twitcher is the word here!

Frymetothemoon · 08/11/2021 12:59

This happens often near where I live. Often it's men having lengthy phone calls (I suspect to their mistresses)

Ceebeegee · 08/11/2021 13:19

Could be pokemon go,

I know friends who drive round to Pokemon stops and gyms and sit there for half hour whilst they do raids in the game.

( I have gone along with them once, and hated it because they would park on a street to play on their phones and I was worried what the people in the houses with think, even though it was entirely innocent!).

violetanemone · 08/11/2021 14:10

It took you effort to write this post and it's a bit 'off'. It is my business who is sat across from my house in the early hours. I make it my business!

It's not, though.

It's a public road and you said it's a busy one.

They weren't doing anything that made you feel insecure or threatened.

Therefore it's none of your business. Leave them to it.
