AIBU to find it utterly astounding that it's socially acceptable in England for pet cats to poop in other people's gardens??!

I honestly cannot get my head round this. We've moved into a new house and the garden is full of cat shit. Not a single cat owner I know has a little tray for their cat to use. Where do cat owners think their cats poop? Do you honestly not care that it's in other peoples gardens?
My dh is from in a country where this is not socially acceptable and cat owners have litter trays and the cats bloody use them.

@paloma2

Meanwhile on Fishnet-

MrsCodswallop - “AIBU to not want billions of tonnes of human farces, paper and sanitary products pumped into my ocean every day? AIBU to think humans should put do it in their own boxes and deal with it within their own homes?”

Exactly, we can all be blissfully unfazed of the inconveniences of our existence but we are far worse a species than any to have ever existed and humans aren’t great at acknowledging this and projecting the blame elsewhere.
paloma2 · 08/11/2021 11:56

*faeces - sorry. MrsCodswallop needs her reading glasses on.

@Garfunkle**
Tell me, what’s worse?
Picking cat shit off the grass, or burying it, or humans polluting the water with their shit

Every living being defecates - fact!

Should cats be allowed to roam, making a mess in other peoples properties and causing misery to others. Or should those who want a cat keep it on his/her property and pick it’s mess up? Why do people have cats and expect everyone else to pick up after it and fork out to cat proof their gardens to keep the cats (that they don’t want) out of their property?

This thread shows that cats can be contained within its own property. There are obviously responsible cat owners and those who couldn’t care less about anyone else.

Why have a cat if you’re not willing to look after it? some people CAN take care of their cat(s) without putting the burden on others. It can be done, obviously. Those who don’t want to will keep making petty excuses.

@Garfunkle. I'm not explaining again. Just read over the responses. It is not an option to keep all cats contained for their own wellbeing. I do look after my cat as much as my cat wants to be looked after.
AllThingsServeTheBeam · 08/11/2021 12:00

@Dreamstate

For all the cat owners on here:

Lets say your cat never did anything in your garden. What if you had a neighbours cat(s) come into your garden crap all over it, dig up the flowers you just bought, the veg u planted...are you honestly saying it wouldn't piss you off? That your money and time is being wasted?

You would say oh well never mind, clear it a up, go spend more money on flowers and replant veg....?

Would you be happy to have to check your garden before your kids could play in it?

That's exactly what I do. My dogs shits in my garden. My cats shit in my garden. My neighbours cats shit in my garden. Birds shit in my garden. Hedgehogs, badgers, foxes, squirrels... Need I go on?
goinggently · 08/11/2021 12:02

@AllThingsServeTheBeam wouldn't bother me to be honest. I'm sure the dwindling native bird species would appreciate it.

All pet dogs would infinitely prefer to be allowed to roam the streets unaccompanied, shit all over neighbours' properties and terrorise wildlife at their will. Instead they are kept in homes by owners who are held accountable by their actions. As it should be.

MackenCheese · 08/11/2021 12:03

Why on earth would I have a litter tray indoors with a toilet trained cat? I thought the whole point of having cats, rather than dogs is that someone else deals with the poop. I'm only half serious!!! 😁

They're not kept in homes they are taken for walks and allowed to shit all over parks and paths.

Nice to know you would like cats shot. No longer need to even consider your opinion anymore. Like I said earlier, humans are the vermin.

user1471447863 · 08/11/2021 12:09

A cat like any pet is an optional lifestyle accessory and as such you should use it in such a way that it doesn't inconvenience others.
Cats are very capable of living happily as house cats or confined to gardens. In much of the world it is that way either legally or simply because the local fauna would soon eat them.

It's well overdue that cat ownership was brought into line with other pets.

goinggently · 08/11/2021 12:12

They are taken for walks by their accountable humans, not let out to roam the streets. If a dog shits in the park, it is 100% the owner's responsibility to clean it up. Cat owners, bar those on here who attempt to contain their cats, refuse to take any responsibility for their pets outside of their own homes. Therefore entirely antisocial.

Yes, some dog owners are irresponsible and should be held accountable. But the incredulity of cat owners that neighbours may find it antisocial that little tiddles shits all over the garden and massacres birds just smacks of gross entitlement.

Thankyou! Yes, she makes my day everyday Smile.

I am merely her pet

Hmm

100% with you OP. I can't believe the number of people on here equating it with having birds and hedgehogs shitting in your garden - completely forgetting cats are pets, not native and a massive plague on the local environment.

Dogs cause way more issues than cats. I say that as a dog owner. Thing is, my dog wouldn't wander the streets. I could keep the front door open all day and he wouldn't even leave the garden my cats on the other hand do.

Only 1 of the 5 cats I have owned hunts. And the RSPB have already shot the argument that that actually have any impact on numbers anyway. They normally kill the young or injured/elderly that would have died anyway.

Do you shit in your garden, or allow your shit to pollute and cause an inconvenience to sea creatures elsewhere and do you eat meat?
paloma2 · 08/11/2021 12:28

“completely forgetting cats are pets, not native and a massive plague on the local environment.”

I’m ‘not native.’ Where should I do my business please?

goinggently · 08/11/2021 12:29

@Lady08 No, I don't shit in my garden. I shit in my own house. Nor do I come to your house uninvited and shit there. But your cat does.

paloma2 · 08/11/2021 12:31

Stop building your homes / roads / railways and god knows what on our territory! We have enough on as it is. Meow.

goinggently · 08/11/2021 12:31

If it's such a giant ballache to be a responsible pet owner and respectful of your neighbours, or if the measures necessary would be 'cruel to your cat', the answer's quite simple: don't get a cat.

Lady08 · 08/11/2021 12:32

Dear humans of the world,

Can you stop leaving your houses and polluting our air with your cars.

Can you stop contributing to our changing climate that is no longer habitable for us.

Can you stop putting your waste in our waters.

Can you stop eating fish and destroying our eco-system.

Can you stop putting your plastic waste into our waters.

Can you stop flushing your chemicals down the toilet etc.

The animals.

Who is the vermin now?
Not such a pleasant species after all are we, maybe we need to look closer at ourselves before projecting onto another species.

Still we've had the photo posted so I've filled my bingo card and claim my £5

paloma2 · 08/11/2021 12:32

It’s almost as if a certain species on two legs assumed ownership of the earth...,

Chocaholic9 · 08/11/2021 12:34

What are you going to do about it?

goinggently · 08/11/2021 12:34

@AllThingsServeTheBeam 'they only kill the young' ... the ones that would have gone on to breed you mean...? Hmm

How do you know what my cats do?

So you shit in your house that then impacts another species? So you’re no better.

You eat meat but don’t like cats killing wildlife.

Hypocrite much!

treguffin · 08/11/2021 12:36

@LaBellina

Yes I agree with you. We keep our DCat indoors as we don’t want others to have to deal with our pets waste as one of the reasons.
Wow. Really? Isn't that a bit mean? I mean animals do poo and surely its impossible to train a cat to do anything!
