I honestly cannot get my head round this. We've moved into a new house and the garden is full of cat shit. Not a single cat owner I know has a little tray for their cat to use. Where do cat owners think their cats poop? Do you honestly not care that it's in other peoples gardens?
My dh is from in a country where this is not socially acceptable and cat owners have litter trays and the cats bloody use them.

This is getting weirder and weirder. . You’re bringing up the social construct that is land ownership to justify yourselves now are you? As well as trying to claim that the current overpopulation of cats is nothing to do with deliberate breeding for the pet market?
This popcorn’s good.

Mellowyellow222 · 07/11/2021 21:38

@Sunshinegirl82

Most dog owners seem to use plastic bags to clear up their dog shit, on balance I imagine all that single use plastic is worse for the environment than cat shit in gardens.
I agree. And where I some the dog owners bag the poo ( well some do), then throw the bag in the bushes. At least the poo is biodegradable- we have bushes and trees full of bags of poo🤮.

No cat owner does this.

@HadaVerde

I’ve trained my cat to only shit in the gardens of miserable cat haters.

There’s something missing from this thread…You’re welcome, don’t mention it!

LilyTheMink · 07/11/2021 21:47

Where do cat owners think their cats poop? I think mine buries his poo in my garden and probably the neighbours'.
Do you honestly not care that it's in other peoples gardens? No. I barely notice any cat poo from my neighbours' cats in my garden either.

They do normally bury it in my experience. Why aren't cats doing that in your garden?

LilyTheMink · 07/11/2021 21:48

My poo bags are supposedly biodegradable too

PickUpAPepper · 07/11/2021 21:48

Imagine a picture of a very big dog showing its very big sharp white teeth (cos I can’t be arsed to search for one for cat owners).

LilyTheMink · 07/11/2021 21:48

@ADreadedSunnyDay

NRFT but i can say without a shadow of a doubt that fox and og poo on pavements and in my garden and on my drive is a much worse problem, than anything a cat produces
"og poo"? We don't have ogs around here ♥
lljkk · 07/11/2021 21:51

I reuse other plastic bags to pick up the muck generated by the dogs I walk -- food packaging bags, mostly. Just saying, doesn't have to be a single use bag. They aren't my dogs, either, but they are important companions for vulnerable people who live alone.

This thread is nuts, btw.

Trinacham · 07/11/2021 21:56

Cats are semi-domesticated. Dogs are fully domesticated. Different.

For the record I have 2 strictly indoor cats that poop in litter trays. I also have neighbours cats that poop on my garden. Big deal.

skodadoda · 07/11/2021 22:00

@TheDuchessOfBeddington

Cat proof your garden. Saying that humans are the only species that treats their sewage, all other animals put it straight back in the earth to feed the plants.
I don’t want vile stinking cat shit ‘feeding’ my plants thank you.
MilkywayMonarch22 · 07/11/2021 22:05

Can't do anything about it but yes it is gross. If anyone has any very real cat deterrent methods (non cruel obviously!) on this thread please do share.

See, right there is the difference between cats (and cat-owners) and dogs (and dog owners). On the one hand laid-back, relaxed felines, on the other growly, vicious canines. And the dogs aren’t much better Grin
PurpleOkapi · 07/11/2021 22:41

Seriously, where is this country where all free-roaming cats know to come home and use a litter tray when they want to poop, and would never dream of pooping in whomever's garden they happen to be in at that moment?

SpideySenseTingles · 07/11/2021 22:48

I don't have cats but I have a large garden and lots of neighbouring cats visit it. They seem to take it in shifts to patrol the garden.

Very occasionally I find cat poo in the garden, and only then it has been when I've put fresh compost down and it must look extra inviting to them.

My only complaint about the cats is that they run away from me and don't want to be my friend.

TattySlippers · 07/11/2021 22:55

If they’re not a nuisance to you and don’t poo in your garden, why are you so concerned?
Your dog is still shitting and peeing in a public place

Correction - my dogs crap every morning in my garden. I pick it up.

I’m concerned that my young neighbour is suffering mental health issues because her children cannot use her garden due to the amount of cat shit that appears every morning.

Maybe myself, my neighbours and our dogs should crap in the cat owners garden. I’m sure the cat owner wouldn’t mind - after all we are all free to do what we want eh?

So where do your dogs pee and poo when you’re out?

Concerned about your neighbour, yeah pull the other one Hmm

Not the same comparison, dogs aren’t free to roam.

Again, you’re a hypocrite, you pollute by shitting but are against a domesticated animal shitting. Your dogs also contribute to the problem too.
You are not anymore special than anyone else on this planet!

If this lady is suffering mental health issues I suspect there is more at play than cat poo. Mental health issues are serious. Please don’t bandy them about to try and win an argument

We send the dogs out The cats scarper We no longer have cat shit in our garden and the dogs get a little excitement

Ok. Let’s just dismiss mental health issues. You sound like a cat owner - “everyone put up and shut up. My cat rules the world” 🙄

Have you ever thought how not being able to enjoy your garden because of inconsiderate pet owners impact on mental health? I know exactly what my neighbour is going through. You don’t. Your cat isn’t helping matters. I wouldn’t expect you to understand that. Cat owners don’t seem to care about anyone else

Sad state of affairs when you use your neighbours mental health to get your opinion across. I really don’t believe you either, you are trying to use everything you can to get your point across and I can see through it.

You also haven’t said where you think these cats should shit!

If cats weren’t domesticated and spayed/neutered by their owners, you’d have many more cats shitting in your garden, amongst the many other wild animals which we co-exist with.

To the question in the title: Yes. To the questions in the body of the post: Don’t know. And yes. They’re cats. They light up the lives of everyone who sees them. Even the miserablists who seem to think they should be in a cage.

I absolutely accept that cat poo is annoying. My cat has litter trays and a toilet in the garden. She is also only outside for short runs.

But it’s a problem. But claiming it is the cause of mental issues is a ridiculous exaggeration, and trivialises mental health issues.
