AIBU to find it utterly astounding that it's socially acceptable in England for pet cats to poop in other people's gardens??!

I honestly cannot get my head round this. We've moved into a new house and the garden is full of cat shit. Not a single cat owner I know has a little tray for their cat to use. Where do cat owners think their cats poop? Do you honestly not care that it's in other peoples gardens?
My dh is from in a country where this is not socially acceptable and cat owners have litter trays and the cats bloody use them.

I don’t have either a cat or a dog… just because someone is complaining about cat shit on a thread about cat shit doesn’t mean they’re a dog lover Hmm

Mellowyellow222 · 07/11/2021 20:22

Cats aren’t going to disappear. Even if they were no longer allowed to free roam (like in parts of Australia) there would still be a lot of feral cats out there.

Complaining about it ain’t going to solve the problem.

Suburban areas are full of cats. Over half the houses on my street have a cat. My cat mainly poops inside, but other cats poop in my garden.

There is nothing I can do about it so why get stressed?

I am fascinated where OPs husband is from? Are cats all indoor there and have they eradicated all feral colonies? Is it Australia?

Mellowyellow222 · 07/11/2021 20:26

@ThePoisonousMushroom

Why would a cat pooping in Your garden be any more dangerous to children than someone's dog that might bite and kill my child?

Can you point me to where I said it was? Confused. I was just using the 2 examples in the post I quoted… a dog barking through the night or a cat shitting in my garden.

You have a lot of rage about this😊. Yes it is annoying, but the cat isn’t deliberately targeting you.

I once lived in a house where the neighbours yelled all night every night, they only stopped to have very loud sex. I barely slept for two years.

A cat occasionally crapping in my garden is nothing😊

PurpleOkapi · 07/11/2021 20:28

I'm still waiting for an explanation of how keeping a litter tray one's garage will make one's outdoor cat understand that it needs to wander back home whenever it wants to poop.

ThePoisonousMushroom · 07/11/2021 20:28

I wouldn’t say it’s ‘rage’, I can’t be arsed for that. I do very much resent having to clean cat shit off my patio every morning before I let my kids outside though. Every day for 4 years now!
That doesn’t mean I think it’s ok for dogs to maul children to death though, as implied by a previous poster Grin. I just hate filthy cat shit.

YourFinestPantaloons · 07/11/2021 20:34

I do when we go and stop on a friend's farm. He roams around for hours and either comes back when called or when he decides to come back

@AllThingsServeTheBeam but not on residential areas as part of his daily pattern?
Why not?

Lady08 · 07/11/2021 20:34
@XelaM ok I'll bite...some people like a low maintenance pet. Cats are loving but don't require the same level of supervision as dogs. That's why people choose them as pets.
Where do you think all of the cats should go if people suddenly stop owning them as pets?

Yes exactly. People choose a cat because they can’t be arsed to be a responsible pet owner. Ie they don’t want to look after it.

“Where would cats go if everyone suddenly stopped owning them?
“?
Umm… maybe cat owners would neuter their “pets” to make sure they didn’t breed??
You think cats are easy to look after?
They still require mental stimulation, feeding, watering, vet visits, attention, litter changes etc. You clearly don’t own a cat, so how can you know the responsibilities involve.

Most people do neuter their cats.
If they didn’t, how many more cats do you think would be roaming and pooing in everyone’s garden like badgers, foxes etc.

You still didn’t answer the question, where would all the domesticated cats go?
The millions that reside in peoples homes?
If they were wild and had no one to neuter them, we’d be over run like countries such a Cyprus, surely you can see the logic there Hmm

You let your kids out everyday? In winter?...

Are your kids small? Furry? Have long tails?

Are you sure they're not cats?

Has cat shit infected your mind through contact with it in your holy landed gardens?

Get a grip...
literall, get one of those litter grips, dispose of poo very easy, barely an inconvenience.

Now run along, your 'kids' need a bowl of milk..

ThePoisonousMushroom · 07/11/2021 20:38

No I don’t let them out every day in the winter, but I still pick the cat shit up or by the end of the week I’d have 7 cat shits on my patio. You might be happy to have a garden full of shit but I’m not 🤷🏻‍♀️.

ThePoisonousMushroom · 07/11/2021 20:39

Although yeah, they do play outside quite a lot in the winter. They have coats.

ThePoisonousMushroom · 07/11/2021 20:40

But why are you so offended by my not liking cat shit on my patio? It’s really weird!

FissionMailed · 07/11/2021 20:40

I've got a garden full of slabs... I hose it down to get the bird shit off...

I wish bird owners would stop their birds shitting on my slabs tbh.
I should get a cat or two to keep the birds away..

ThePoisonousMushroom · 07/11/2021 20:40

Can you imagine the mess if I hosed down cat shit?

Branleuse · 07/11/2021 20:41

I do get the point that it must be annoying if you choose to live in the kind of area people have cats and you dont have your own pets to frighten them off and youre an avid gardener etc. I do see the point. I just really think the best environment for a cat includes being able to go outside and do cat stuff, and having pets is important to me. Its part of me living my life. I put up with other peoples presence and impositions and vice versa. I dont think its socially acceptable, but neither is it outrageous

FissionMailed · 07/11/2021 20:41

Are they black and white coats? That need regular brushing? ..
ThePoisonousMushroom · 07/11/2021 20:41

You’re so weird Grin

HunkyPunk · 07/11/2021 20:43

how the little sods scratch you and dig their nasty claws in for no reason.

This reminds me of Liz (from Motherland) talking about children Grin

I answered the question. I repeat….. If all cat owners neutered their “pets” they couldn’t breed. Sadly they don’t and that is why there are so many cats being free to roam… to shit in the neighbours gardens…. and to breed…. If they were neutered they couldn’t breed. Is that too difficult for you to comprehend?

FissionMailed · 07/11/2021 20:44

@ThePoisonousMushroom

Yes.... Yes I can...

You use the jet spray to make a hockey puck out of the poop and set up a goal..

Get the kids out there to do it.. keep them warm whilst a foot deep in snow in the winter time. 👍

ThePoisonousMushroom · 07/11/2021 20:44

Seriously do your children not go outside in the winter? I guess it takes all sorts.

Lady08 · 07/11/2021 20:45

These threads amaze me.

Humans shit enters the rivers and seas and causes water pollution. Yet we’re not up in arms about that. I’m sure if Mr Fish could talk, he’d be utterly repulsed that we’re dumping our shit into his river.

Humans cause mass extinction and eat billions of land animals every year and also hunt.
So I hope those that are spouting off about the wildlife are vegans?

Talk about being hypocrites!

FissionMailed · 07/11/2021 20:47

@ThePoisonousMushroom

You’re so weird Grin
I'm just not convinced you're kids aren't actually cats in human clothes.. You've been taken in and tricked and didn't realise for three years, probably.dont want to admit it for fear of looking silly.

How to tell a kid from a cat.

One shits where they want, scratches up furniture, makes a mess and generally does what they want.

The other is a cat...

Of course they do,.when they want too. I don't force them on to the freshly cleaned patio daily though.

"Look... Look how clean it is... Just look.. stop crying, it's not that cold.. plus, you've got your coats on.. now stop scratching at the door.."

Can you not comprehend this…

If we all gave up our cats right now, where will they all go?
Do you think all humans should be sterilised too? Seeing as we pollute seas and rivers with our waste, or is it only because cats are an inconvenience to you that you want them all to be neutered? What about the animals you are affecting?
