AIBU to find it utterly astounding that it's socially acceptable in England for pet cats to poop in other people's gardens??!

I honestly cannot get my head round this. We've moved into a new house and the garden is full of cat shit. Not a single cat owner I know has a little tray for their cat to use. Where do cat owners think their cats poop? Do you honestly not care that it's in other peoples gardens?
My dh is from in a country where this is not socially acceptable and cat owners have litter trays and the cats bloody use them.

And those damn foxes....

Waahingwashingwashing · 07/11/2021 18:13

What’s the law referred to In Northern Ireland please (genuine question).

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 07/11/2021 18:17
@coogee also why do dogs have to be on a lead in public places but can't don't? The comparison is idiotic.

To the disgusting poster who proudly claims a cat wouldn't leave their garden in one piece....you are very damaged and deranged if you think that a dumb animal with no concept of wrongdoing deserves to be harmed because of this. Quite honestly you are a bigger piece of shit than any my cat may leave behind. Get help.
Dogs don't have to be on a lead in public places. Mine rarely is

YourFinestPantaloons · 07/11/2021 18:19

@PickUpAPepper

You don't have to like them but why not try to accept that they are as much a part of the planet as you or I and you can't just eradicate something because it annoys you.

Just catching up, did someone honestly write that?!? Nice one. Learn some ecology.

How is that statement incorrect?

Humans have done far more damage to the planets than cats have. Pretty arrogant to claim the planet is 'ours'

dozyjosie42 · 07/11/2021 18:19

@AllThingsServeTheBeam ok not all public places but you will find certain areas where it's specified that they must be kept on lead. The same can't be said for cats.

YourFinestPantaloons · 07/11/2021 18:20

@AllThingsServeTheBeam but do you let your dog out on its own for an indeterminate amount of time u til it comes back for dinner?

If not, then why not?

debwong · 07/11/2021 18:21

I despise them, they’re vermin. Not an issue for me as I have an extremely cat aggressive dog. They’re not stupid enough to set foot in my garden, there’s a very good chance they wouldn’t leave in one piece.

Is it one of those magic dogs that doesn't shit?

maddy68 · 07/11/2021 18:21

How do you know they don't have litter trays?

I have always had cats u tik recently (and litter trays) my cats have never used a litter tray despite their availability.

You can't instruct a cat to use a designated area. Although I am fairly certain that mine only went in my garden. But who knows realistically

YourFinestPantaloons · 07/11/2021 18:21

My neighbours have 4 cats and tell me if I find poo (which I rarely do) in my garden to hoy it back over their fence. I never have though as they have kids and knowing my luck the 4yo would just get a poo in the face. So I bag it up and bin it.

In the grand scheme of things, and the awful problems I have in my life at the moment, bagging up cat poo doesn't faze me in the least. My neighbours are good neighbours and lovely people, gotta pick your battles innit

WickedWitchOfTheTrent · 07/11/2021 18:25

@debwong I'm sure the dog does shit, but in their own garden or when out, her owner will bag and bin it.

BonnesVacances · 07/11/2021 18:29

Cats are creatures of habit. Scare them away from your garden if you see them in it, and they'll soon find somewhere else to shit.

PeriChristmas · 07/11/2021 18:32

🤣

prudencepuffin · 07/11/2021 18:36

Get a water pistol if it bothers you and let cats be the anarchists that they naturally are. Its why a lot of us like them.

Ducksareruiningmypatio · 07/11/2021 18:37

Ha! 5 posts before someone suggested the mountains of shit are obviously foxes Grin
Us anti cat shitters are not buying that stupid excuse when we've seen your precious tiddles crouching in our toddlers playing areas spreading toxoplasmosis

I do when we go and stop on a friend's farm. He roams around for hours and either comes back when called or when he decides to come back.

ThePoisonousMushroom · 07/11/2021 18:39

Honestly I think I’d be mortified if my pet cat was shitting its toxic shit into my neighbours garden when they have young children who play in the garden… it blows my mind that some cat owners think it’s funny because ‘cats are anarchists’ etc 🤯

And how, exactly, do you expect the owners to stop them? Just because you have a litter tray doesn't mean the little bugger will be anywhere near it when the need a shit.

Nowhere on God's earth is there a country where cats bloody well do anything they don't want to.

DrManhattan · 07/11/2021 18:46

Omg this is a beast of a thread. This topic always gets everyone going. But we all know that
cat shit is grim and having to clean it up is totally unfair on people who don't have cats.

Moonface123 · 07/11/2021 18:52

l personally would feel embarrased at the small mindedness of this post, but then again maybe thats why you felt you had to resort to this forum rather than voice your concerns to your neighbours.

BoredZelda · 07/11/2021 18:58

Quite right. In Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland there are laws against this sort of thing.

There are? The cats that shit in my garden obviously aren’t aware of those laws,

HunkyPunk · 07/11/2021 18:59

There’s a rather worrying undertone of psychopathic hatred evident in some anti-cat/pro-dog posts.

I’m not a dog person. I would never want a dog, but I don’t hate them in the way that some dog owners seem to hate cats. Like most people, I and my family have trodden in dog shit on the pavement or in parks on many occasions. I have to put up with seeing dogs pissing on my wall and gate posts, watched lovingly by their feckless owners, my son has to deal with his wheely bins being pissed on at the front of his house, then he’s expected to drag them back through when they’ve been emptied. We moan a bit, get disinfectant and hot water and clean up. Every time. What we don’t do is launch a vitriolic verbal attack on innocent creatures, because we’re not unhinged.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 07/11/2021 19:00

There are loads of feral cats so they don’t have anyone to care for them. I would never have a open sandpit.

cushioncovers · 07/11/2021 19:01

"In Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland there are laws against this sort of thing."

Has any told the cats? 😂

cansu · 07/11/2021 19:01

I have a cat. He has a litter tray. He prefers to poop and wee outside. He goes out at night and sometimes in the day. He roams. This is the nature of a cat. How the flip would I know which gardens he has pooped in??

FranceTeam · 07/11/2021 19:01

If you write to the Queen, she will arrange for the cats to be humanely culled and a compensation paid.

On behalf of the United Kingdom, I apologise for this situation.
