AIBU to find it utterly astounding that it's socially acceptable in England for pet cats to poop in other people's gardens??!

I honestly cannot get my head round this. We've moved into a new house and the garden is full of cat shit. Not a single cat owner I know has a little tray for their cat to use. Where do cat owners think their cats poop? Do you honestly not care that it's in other peoples gardens?
My dh is from in a country where this is not socially acceptable and cat owners have litter trays and the cats bloody use them.

There is no law in Scotland prohibiting cats crapping, in someone's garden or anywhere else, or imposing liability on its owner. Where do come up with this stuff? It's just one of the vicissitudes of life.

Dreamstate · 07/11/2021 16:25

What is most annoying is that they ruin your veh your growing cos they dig em up or crap over it. Flowers too.

Not being funny but spending time and money to have a nice garden and growing my own veg isnt cheap. Nothing worse than seeing it all destroyed by cats.

Then not only am I expected to spend more money to cat proof the garden which Lasts fails I have to pick up and dispose of the poo aswell

I didnf ask for this, if I did id get my own pet but I dont want to so I dont have one.

The very least cat owners could do is have a bit of empathy for others knowing what cats can do.

These cat owners who don't care, they wouldn't like it if something they money and time on was ruined.

SpeakingFranglais · 07/11/2021 16:26

Well I’d take cat poo over the fox shit that is on my path every morning, that is twice the size and like stinking tar. The foxes don’t even go in the soil it’s run and shit at the same time.

I also prefer it to the dog poo bags that litter the countryside and walks. Each to their own

midsomermurderess · 07/11/2021 16:26

Maybe raise an action of nuisance (or whatever they might call it in England), but good luck with that.

toconclude · 07/11/2021 16:27

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats
Because not wanting cat shit in your garden means you hate cats. Of course. Knew we could count on the cat fanciers for a nice, balanced reaction🙄

GatoradeMeBitch · 07/11/2021 16:28

So cats aren’t domesticated despite using litter trays, having a home, being trained in behaviour & being fed… just like a dog? How convenient.

I don't think cats are trained in behaviour? Unless there are some kitten classes in operation that I never heard about... Certainly not by owners unless it's tricks like the loo thing above. Cats get socialized by their mothers, everything else is done on instinct.

You could be fined £5000 if you hit a dog with your car. No such thing exists for cats. Is that "convenient" too, or is it that cats are free-roaming animals, whereas dogs are not?

I love these threads. You’re guaranteed to get loads of crazy fuckers getting really worked up. 🤪

Celtic Exceptionalism. Boring and mostly evidence- free.

You're sure that's not foxes? Cats don't tend to destroy vegetables gardens.

@MrsJBaptiste

These threads come up every few days and honestly I just don't care, and can't do anything about it anyway 🤷‍♀️ my cat is a house cat but one day I might have an outdoor cat and I truly will not give one single thought as to whether they shit in peoples gardens

God, I wish I had some kind of pet that could come and shit in your garden. Luckily for you, I don't like animals.

Other people's animals do shit in my garden sometimes. I just shrug and get on with it because I'm not a tragic weirdo.
stevalnamechanger · 07/11/2021 16:31

You can't control where they poop 🤣🤣🤣

SpookyScarySkeletons · 07/11/2021 16:32

My cats have litter trays that they use regularly and do not really go outside.

My youngest nervous little cat only ever sits outside our living room window and jumps straight back in as soon as someone walks past. (I work next to the window so can see exactly where she goes)

Had a bit of an argument the other week when my nobber neighbour let her two dogs chase my little cat. Apparently the cat that never leaves the garden is shitting in her garden. It's really not.

Absolutely pissed myself when she then took her horrible little dogs for a walk and stood and watched one of them shit all over my neighbours front lawn and didn't pick it up.

Moral of the story - sometimes cat owners are more responsible than dog owners.

WaterAndRichTea · 07/11/2021 16:33

Cover your garden in Lions poo….
It will stop cats and Foxes from pooing

MoodyMooTutu · 07/11/2021 16:34

Cats have more legal rights than dogs, possibly more than humans 🙄🤣
If it really upsets you, speak to your MP or set up an online petition.

SpookyScarySkeletons · 07/11/2021 16:34

@Shade17

YANBU. I despise them, they’re vermin. Not an issue for me as I have an extremely cat aggressive dog. They’re not stupid enough to set foot in my garden, there’s a very good chance they wouldn’t leave in one piece.
Well done on the prize for "most particularly foul and nasty post of the week!"

Just made it in time for Sunday night.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/11/2021 16:37

TwinklyBranch
Quite right. In Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland there are laws against this sort of thing

.ApricotShandy
Are there?! Cool! I live in one of these and it still bloody happens here though. Perhaps I should phone the police.

No Apricot. You need a strongly worded notice on your fence that you will NOT tolerate sloppy feline lavatory habits, and will report them to the police. Warn the offending cats that you have them recorded on CCTV and know a lot of police dogs personally, including the Chief Constable's Dobermann . Remind them that you are not without influence.

SofiaMichelle · 07/11/2021 16:38

What's with all the oddballs saying 'poop' in this thread?

LaurenKelsey · 07/11/2021 16:39

@Gothisway

It’s a garden?? An open area of space? Do you get mad with birds/mice/foxes/ants too when they shit everywhere? If so, you might want to install a dome surrounding your space.
And there you have it. The perfect solution. 😊

I assumed the comments about "laws against it" were a joke.

Were they not a joke?

Oh, dear! Shock

LuckyAmy1986 · 07/11/2021 16:42

I am a cat and do you not realise, inferior human, that I have enslaved your species and I rule the world? I will poop where I like. Tough luck

SO. ANNOYING.

InFiveMins · 07/11/2021 16:43

I find these threads utterly astounding tbh. You cannot control where a cat poops if it is a cat that roams outside. Yes it's unpleasant but so is having to pick up fox poo and poo from other wild animals. It is what it is - unless there becomes a sudden ban on cats being able to roam, I really can't be arsed to get upset about it.

FWIW I have 2 cats who are both indoor cats so obviously use a tray, but have lived on a new build housing estate where cats have pooped in my garden. It is what it is!

LaurenKelsey · 07/11/2021 16:45

I also like this solution. Scare the crap out of those silly, inconsiderate cats.

LuckyAmy1986 · 07/11/2021 16:45

@InFiveMins but you clearly like cats. So imagine not liking cats, and not having one and not wanting to deal with their poo but still having to. Wouldn't you be annoyed? No you can't do anything about it, which adds to the frustration!

SmellyLikeABlewBooHoo · 07/11/2021 16:46

Do people seriously not realise that some people say poop and it's normal to them? I'm not sure if to take posters seriously when they act (God I hope it's acting, not real) like they're the only ones in the world.

Because I truly want to believe no one is that dense and insular, I'll go with it: People said poop. Hahaha, funny.
