AIBU to find it utterly astounding that it's socially acceptable in England for pet cats to poop in other people's gardens??!

I honestly cannot get my head round this. We've moved into a new house and the garden is full of cat shit. Not a single cat owner I know has a little tray for their cat to use. Where do cat owners think their cats poop? Do you honestly not care that it's in other peoples gardens?
My dh is from in a country where this is not socially acceptable and cat owners have litter trays and the cats bloody use them.

Quite right. In Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland there are laws against this sort of thing.

BigWoollyJumpers · 07/11/2021 11:54

Get a cat. Problem solved.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 07/11/2021 11:54

Oh great - we haven't had a cat hating thread here for a few days. Wait for the pile on of people suggesting you trap other peoples' cats and dump them miles away or perhaps shoot them.

Big deal - social customs vary from country to country.
And just so you know I, as many people on MN, have cats, and I do have a liiter tray that they use.

SmallGreenStripes · 07/11/2021 11:54

Yep it’s disgusting but cat owners are usually fine with it. Cats also kill loads of native wildlife.

millymolls · 07/11/2021 11:55

Remind me to tell the fox and hedgehogs that crap in my garden to find somewhere else

Yes I agree with you. We keep our DCat indoors as we don’t want others to have to deal with our pets waste as one of the reasons.

It’s a strange concept. You put a fence around some land and sign some papers and it’s yours, no one can use it. Someone should tell the animals that applies to them as well Grin

Why? Why fine with it?

Are there?! Cool! I live in one of these and it still bloody happens here though. Perhaps I should phone the police...

It's not ok for my dog to crap in someone else's garden. I'm not talking about wild animals, I'm taking about pet cats

Cat proof your garden. Saying that humans are the only species that treats their sewage, all other animals put it straight back in the earth to feed the plants.

There are lots of threads about this already. Most posters probably still feel the same as they did then.
It's a shame that you're letting this spoil your new house for you especially since cats aren't a new introduction to the UK so it's not a new development. Most people have accepted cats as the rulers of the universe by now.

TMChappyascanbe · 07/11/2021 12:01

Bless you OP - cats are just one of the range of animals crapping all over your garden.

Over 60 horrible diseases in bird shit alone, and you have no hope of stopping those fuckers www.medicalnewstoday.com/releases/61646#1

Cats are the least of your problems if you have anxiety about this kind of thing.

The only way to stop it is to get a pet of your own, and pray it doesn't gang up with the neighbouring foxes, cats and mink against you. You will still be clearing their shit up though so...

Immaculatemisconception · 07/11/2021 12:02

It's not acceptable to me. My dog goes in our garden and we clear it up.

My cat does his business in our garden - marking his territory probs but not sure how l would train him to if he didn't - we work for them don't you know

Gothisway · 07/11/2021 12:02

It’s a garden?? An open area of space?
Do you get mad with birds/mice/foxes/ants too when they shit everywhere? If so, you might want to install a dome surrounding your space.

Cattitudes · 07/11/2021 12:02

We have a tray, one of ours will come in specifically to use the tray and then saunter back out again, they both use it most of the time. Unless my cats aren't allowed to roam though I can't control all our boundaries because they aren't all our fence. We do have more cats coming into our garden then ours leaving. Maybe you could borrow a dog on a regular basis to deter the cats.

Really? I am Scottish and have never heard of this law. Any chance of a link please? Genuine request.
HadaVerde · 07/11/2021 12:03

I’ve trained my cat to only shit in the gardens of miserable cat haters.
