To make DP sleep in the shed...

AlbusDumbledore2234 · 07/11/2021 06:33

Second night now I have been woken up at stupid o'clock by his obnoxious snorting and grunting. Have tried to get back to sleep for 3 hours but now its 6.30am so that's it for tonight. Meanwhile he is sleeping/snoring/slapping his lips blissfully beside me 🤬
No amount of poking, prodding, nose pinching punching in the face stops it, he sleeps like the dead Sad Only upside is he is nice and warm.

AIBU to kick him out into the freezing cold shed tonight and replace him with an electric blanket.

Probably, but I feel your pain. One thing I found helped was to breathe in time to the snores. I suppose it calmed me. DH has virtually stopped snoring since he retired and no longer suffers sleep apnoea. Is that an ootion? 😄

HunkyPunk · 07/11/2021 06:43

You’re definitely not unreasonable to think about doing this - I feel your pain! On a more serious note, has he ever been tested for sleep apnoea? Dh has this condition, and is awful for snorting, grunting etc.

AlbusDumbledore2234 · 07/11/2021 06:48

Not sleep apnoea, he is very fit and normal weight. It's not every night he snores either, which it would be if it was sleep apnoea surely?

No, he is just a total irritating arse when asleep Grin

I have the same issue with DH. I have the luxury of a spare room and now go there at the first sign if trouble rather than having a sleepless night.

I even bought myself the gift of a new mattress for the spare room as I now go there so often! It was crap before and I feel embarrassed that I let guests sleep on it!

Do whatever you can to get some sleep!

DH is going through tests for sleep apnoea.

@wineisneedednow
Does kick him out in the shed count as anything? 🤣

given that (assuming you're in the UK) it will be around 2 degrees, probably not.
Sofa?

shouldistop · 07/11/2021 06:57

Has he been drinking? My dh only snores if he's been drinking. We no longer share a bed if he's had a night out, he goes into the spare room.

Tereseta · 07/11/2021 07:05

Just to point out don't have to be over weight or unfit to suffer from sleep apnea. I've had it since being a child due to my tonsils and throat shape. Worth at least asking gp for a referral to sleep clinic.

Capferret · 07/11/2021 07:18

@shouldistop. My dh too.
He was 2 stone overweight about 5 years ago.
Is slim now and only snores if he’s had a drink.
Tbf he says I snore some nights so I can’t complain.

fourminutestosavetheworld · 07/11/2021 07:21

The only thing that ever helped me was earplugs and a white noise app.

AlbusDumbledore2234 · 07/11/2021 07:22

@shouldistop
No he hasn't been drinking. He is up now and reckons he doesn't snore, its just nornal breathing apparently 🤬🤬

Urgh Sad ask him why he thinks you're lying.

bestcattoyintheworld · 07/11/2021 07:27

Try recording him when he's doing it then you can demonstrate to him just how bad it is.

Holidaytan · 07/11/2021 07:29

My OH snores like a warthog.
We have separate rooms, but I can sometimes still hear him.
There’s no rule to say that as a couple you have to share a bed every night.
I have the larger room, so he comes in most nights and mornings for a cuddle and a chat but we both get a good nights sleep.

AlbusDumbledore2234 · 07/11/2021 07:29

I think he is a bit embarrassed actually Blush
He just said I should have woken him up if he was disturbing me!!

Hmm Maybe next time I should poke and prod him a LOT harder, in more sensitive places and with a sharp object Angry

Or... send him out to the freezing cold shed.

Snoreeze nasal strips help no end here, OP. But not every night, weirdly.

Butternutsqoosh · 07/11/2021 07:31

Why do they always deny that they snore?? My Dh went away with his daughter and was shocked when his DD said he snored, I was happy to be validated!! I've recorded him before on video and played it back to him "Thats not me" he says!! Who else is in our bed then? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Does it improve if he changes position? If so, can you nudge/push him to persuade him to turn over?

Justilou1 · 07/11/2021 07:38

My DH is the lead strength and conditioning coach for one of the olympic sports. He’s very fit and active. It took me crying in marriage guidance counselling about 17 years of sleep deprivation and reading the UN’s policy on sleep deprivation when used as torture… And how fucking selfish he was being by to get himself checked out, denying me sleep for all this time, risking the safety of our kids, risking his own health, and the future of the father of my children. Guess who sullenly agreed to a sleep study and was stunned to find out that he had an average of over 40 episodes of sleep apnoea per hour??? He got himself a cpap machine pretty damn fast and he waxes lyrical about it like a vegan at a bloody BBQ. 🥱🥱🥱

Progress2019 · 07/11/2021 07:40

I sleep with a fan on. It doesn't completely drown him out but kind of blurs it. He makes asthmatic walrus noises every few seconds, then stops so I start falling asleep, only to be jolted awake again. The fan definitely helps, but its not ideal with winter coming.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 07/11/2021 07:48

Get some of the snoring nose strips, they sell them in wilko much cheaper than the branded ones.

They don't work great for people who are constant snorers, but if he snores because his nose is a bit blocked with a cold or something like that then they do help to just hold the nostrils open and make it easier to breathe.

Absolutely this. My DH used to say I was hearing myself snoring. But I was wide awake listening to him! Confused. We sleep in separate rooms now.
Ericabro · 07/11/2021 07:52

Sleep aponea isnt about being fit and a certain weight love its a few things and trust me send him to the doctors before he has a stroke x

If it helps at all, OP, my DP is an irritating arse when he's awake too Grin
