AIBU Kids eating in new car?

So… we bought a new, expensive car recently. My husband chose it , I was always happy with a second hand thing for school runs etc. He’s just freaked out because the kids have been eating in the car. ( we agreed they wouldn’t but they are always so hungry after school) I clean it once a week myself and chuck it through a car wash too. It’s looked after! He’s just said that he’s going to take the car away now because I broke our agreement. I have now been consigned to his really dirty and muddy work car as punishment. AIBU or is he ?

You’re only allowed water in our cars. That’s always been the way. I hate grubby cars. Now our kids are adults they have the same rules. DS1 won’t even allow people to hold food in the cabin of his car, it all has to go in the boot, because he’s got cream leather seats and cream carpets.

YABU because you agreed to not allow the kids to eat in the car and you’ve gone back on your word.

If allowing the kids to eat in the car doesn't bother you but does bother DH why cause an argument over it. Its his opinion and you don't care so possibly best to pick your battles on this one and let him have this one. There will be plenty of other things in your lives together where you will have a strong opinion on and he won't and you can win that one

We always eat in the car. Where else do you eat your picnic on a rainy day out. Especially if it’s the middle of winter.
Car get hoovered out and there’s a blanket on the back seat to protect it.

Wow OP, he sounded like a bit of an arsehole for being precious over food in a car, but with that above comment he is a complete arsehole. It's a massive overreaction on his part. Does he react like this often?

He is going over the top with his rules and fussiness about a piece of metal that is called a car.
