How to hang out socks to dry

Of course the correct way is by placing the peg on the foot side (and the down side, not the top).

But DP hangs them by the top of the leg side , and thus a peg mark could be visible. Angry Like on the photo, but only one side, not both.
To be fair, hanging by the foot side could possibly lead to holes (doubt it), and by the top could (maybe) dry them faster.

Let me know if IABU (I'm not) and give me more arguments pro-foot side - the correct way.

I hang them in pairs....pinch the insides together, peg over the line and then the ends of the peg are inside the sock, so no dampish folded over bits.

If a sock doesn't have a pair then I am very vexed and if it's dh's I throw it away. 30 years of marriage and he still has no idea why he keeps running out of socks.

Socks are pegged at the toe. Matching socks have to be hung on the line next to each other. My grandmother taught me this rule.

@diddl that is literally what I said 😂😂

I use a little clip thing similar to the Socktopus for pants and socks. I hang it from the Side of my clothes airer (I don’t use a drier as it’s bad for the environment), or out on the line. The benefits are that it saves line space and if it starts to rain whilst outside I can just grab one thing.

i have more important things to be concerned about than worrying about which way to hang a sock! as long as the thing isnt smelling bad and it dries and can be worn again is all that matters!

Here's my truly awful and not to scale technical drawing for *@cowburp* and anyone else confused
This is what I do for anything that shows peg marks. It's not optimal for the fastest dying but for especially markable clothes and e.g dresses when both top and bottom of the garment are visible it's the best way. I literally put the pegs under where the armpits go so they're invisible.

All the no’s . Mama Fornia would be typhooning in her tub in the memorial gardens were such drying transgressions employed here. She’d ectoplasm the entire line - or scare the shite out of the local gull population during berry season.
StoneofDestiny · 06/11/2021 21:02

Peg by the toe in summer as the top takes longer to dry as it's thicker - so sun needs to get at it. The rest of the year they go in the drier.

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2021 21:05

Got one of those socktopus things and peg them at the top. Never have I had a problem with peg marks on socks or them not drying effectively.

Crazycakelady17 · 06/11/2021 21:07

Tumble dryer yep I’m lazy lived here for 7 years never hung washing outside do have a clothes horse for things that can’t be tumble dried but crusty socks nooe nice fluffy tumble dried ones here

CeeceeBloomingdale · 06/11/2021 21:13

I peg at the toe. DH pegs the top. My Grandma always told me if you wear it on the bottom half you peg it by the top and it you wear it on the top you peg it by the bottom. But that rule doesn't apply to socks which she would peg by the bottom/toe. Dresses are also not covered by her theory but were pegged at the bottom for anyone worried about this Wink

EverNapping · 06/11/2021 21:21

@gladioli23 - I'm no longer the only armpit pegging savage, woo! Grin

A580Hojas · 06/11/2021 21:26

If it's not raining they go outside on a peggy thing hanging from the washing line. You clip the sock to the peg at the top, one side only.

EmoIsntDead · 06/11/2021 21:31

I'm an armpit pegger too @EverNapping 😃

TulipCat · 06/11/2021 22:05

@purplesequins Thanks for that - it looks like a chandelier for socks!

fridgehelp · 06/11/2021 22:08

I also hang them from the top.

But your socks look like gloves 😢

fridgehelp · 06/11/2021 22:11

Also don't own a drier so they go on the airer just half over

Your technical drawing is so beautiful that I could almost forgive you for being so wrong about the correct way to hang a shirt. Grin You have FOUR LAYERS of fabric piled limply over the washing line; how on earth do your shirts ever get dry? Do you live in a desert?

(I do use your technique if it's a very delicate shirt which mustn't be stretched by hanging it from the top or bottom, but it isn't very satisfactory in terms of achieving dry clothes. If I had my way, flimsy clothes would be banned.)

EverNapping · 07/11/2021 19:51

@cowburp makes so much more sense to me

@EmoIsntDead Whoop! Grin

@Saracen I don't really notice how long it takes, I tend to just abandon it it there until evening.
