AIBU to say that the Tories, the party that brought us Brexit, are NOT the party of fiscal responsibility?

I see this a lot on threads, wtf? Do posters really believe that?
YANBU - The Tories are NOT fiscally responsible.
YABU - They are fiscally responsible.

They're the party of sleaze and corruption. Always have been.

Kendodd · 05/11/2021 18:06

Well, yes.
Several threads recently though, posters unable to deny the sleaze (well, some have) argue that despite all that you can trust them with the economy. WTF! How much damage to the economy do they have to do before their voters see it!?!?

OP posts:
Thedogscollar · 05/11/2021 18:09

I'd say that's a more than reasonable assumption.

They are a party full of lies, lies and more lies.
Hideous bunch no redeeming features whatsoever.

CorrBlimeyGG · 05/11/2021 18:16

They found the magic money tree when it came to contracts for their mates.

coffeerevelsrock · 05/11/2021 18:17

We can only hope (well, dread really, but hope in regards to the issue in the OP) that when the full extent of the impact of Brexit and the reality of the Covid hand-outs to mates both become clear people will finally see the truth. I'm starting doubt it though.

Watchingyou2sleezes · 05/11/2021 18:19

They can't be trusted with anything.
The fact that the other main party is even worse doesn't cut it with me.
I hope both parties implode and fracture and sensible parties of all persuasions emerge.

I very much doubt it. The fact that people are STILL trotting out the fiscal responsibility line despite all the evidence to the contrary.

OP posts:
Kendodd · 05/11/2021 18:26

And I would bet that 100% of posters who voted YANBU above, DIDN'T vote Tory and 100% of the posters who voted YABU DID vote Tory.

OP posts:
NavyCream · 05/11/2021 18:27

They took us out of the single market. You'd have to be an idiot to think they do what's best for the economy

NavyCream · 05/11/2021 18:29

The voting is 89% YANBU at the moment although that'll probably change once the shills get directed to vote here

coffeerevelsrock · 05/11/2021 18:31

I think part of the problem is that people are so poorly informed and don't really seek out impartial news. The media is also part of the problem as the Brexit issue is not being reported on and neither is the level of corruption with the Covid contracts. People are happy just to parrot phrases they vaguely know and are familiar with and don't seem to care to look into whether there's actually any evidence for them. See also phrases like Labour are unelectable,' etc. I saw people on threads yesterday banging on about Gordon Brown and bigotgate as a reason why Labour couldn't be elected. It was 11 years ago and numerous Tories have said far worse since and displayed far higher levels of contempt for voters in various ways, but that doesn't cut through.

NavyCream · 05/11/2021 18:37

Tory voters don't mind money being spunked on damaging the economy with brexit or on covid hand outs to their mates. Just as long as it's not spent on the poor which is their worst nightmare. Egged on by the Mail/Sun/Telegraph

Lonelycrab · 05/11/2021 18:41

The Tory party these days is basically UKIP. cheers Cameron you fucking numpty

They’re more interested in putting on the rose tinted specs, cashing in the gold plated pensions/properties and returning to the good old days. If business gets “fucked”, so be it.
That’s what we’ve got now.

MadeOfStarStuff · 05/11/2021 18:44

They’re only fiscally responsible for themselves and their mates. For the country they’re a fucking disaster

Graphista · 05/11/2021 19:28

YANBU

It's a myth that far too many still blindly believe without looking at the facts or indeed noticing what's simply going on with their own wages and living costs!

YABU, The tories are the party of ensuring that they and their mates are fiscally secure. This is the main responsibility of any government, along with having expensive holidays at others expense.

Socialism for the rich. Capitalism for everyone else.

milveycrohn · 05/11/2021 20:14

I think the Conservative Parrty and the current chancellor would like to be fiscally responsible.
However, I think the current Prime Minister likes spending other peoples's money, and definitely likes the big projects

Well the Chancellor had the opportunity of a budget recently. He didn't have to drop taxes on for example flights and could have actually been responsible and helped the people most in need.

Nice try to line him up to replace Boris as the acceptable side of the Tory party.

Graphista · 05/11/2021 21:17

Nah! Rishi is as Tory and irresponsible as they come - check his background!

Ex banker with a profligate attitude to spending others money on what he thinks is right based on VERY Tory values

Akiddleydiveytoo · 06/11/2021 00:07

Anybody who thinks the Tories have done a good job with the economy must have been living in a cave for the last 11 years. Austerity was a complete disaster and despite Tory claims to the contrary actually made things worse (Government debt as percentage of GDP actually increased from around 60% in 2010 to close to 100% in 2020).

What pisses me off even more is how the current Government act like they are our saviours, swooping in to fix all the problems of the last 10 years like they weren't the people who caused those problems in the first bloody place. Angry

And voters completely hook line and sinker swallowed it!

Like inflating house prices with his stamp duty holiday.

They never were.

HesterAndPearlInBrightSunshine · 06/11/2021 09:13

Labour aren't worse but they have misplaced their spine for the past few years.
