Gas and electric has more than doubled!

What used to cost me around £1.90 a day in dual fuel has gone up to around £3 - £4 a day. Is this happening with anyone else? All I'm doing is having a bath, doing a load of washing and having the heating on for 30 mins a day. It's insane!

Is the full machine only thing still accurate? It used to be that machines had a half load button, but now most modern machines use weight sensors and other sensors to adjust water and energy usage according to the load, done they? I'd be interested to know if running it full v running half full makes much difference these days.

It's been absolutely jaw-dropping. Our fixed deal expired yesterday, but the fixed rates I was offered to renew with OVO for combined gas and electricity had basically tripled (£450+ a month!) so I have let it lapse and just gone on to the variable rate for now. Largish detached house but has never been more than £150-170 a month before - insulated, new boiler etc. We use the heating a fair bit because DH and I both work from home - but only one teenager still living at home with us so far less laundry than we used to do.

@BarbaraofSeville I do a load of washing per day, but that's mainly work uniforms.

We have 4 adults and a teen in my household
