Gas and electric has more than doubled!

What used to cost me around £1.90 a day in dual fuel has gone up to around £3 - £4 a day. Is this happening with anyone else? All I'm doing is having a bath, doing a load of washing and having the heating on for 30 mins a day. It's insane!

@Guacamole001

I am with Utility Warehouse. Mine has not increased at all In fact it is costing me less than this time last year since early in the summer I moved on to their green plan.
Good for you. Be prepared for the increase though because it will happen. They rely entirely on EON for their lower than cap prices...EON are under as much pressure as everyone else and that cannot last.

However UW have been around long enough to have possibly built enough of a buffer to ride out being a loss leader. It'll be interesting to see if they manage it...and whether they'll leverage profit from Telecom Plus to do so because the CEO has been openly smug about UWs ability to survive the current problems but then MLM CEOs are openly smug about most things

@RainbowBriteUk

One load of washing per day. Just 30 mins in the washer.
check the manual of your washer. the eco cycles usually use less water and electricity even if they take ages.
Romeiswheretheheartis · 04/11/2021 16:51

Yes, my Smart Meter is suddenly showing double the usual daily rate Sad. I'm really worried.

caketiger · 04/11/2021 17:43

We were 170, provided went bust shifted to British gas now at 377!! Did the usage maths today and they have over estimated what we use.

ponkydonkey · 04/11/2021 21:38

I'm just waiting for the chimneys to swept so we can have an open fire keeps the house very warm

PaperMonster · 04/11/2021 22:28

At this time of year we’re usually £3-4 a day all electric but we’re about £7. Only good thing is that we didn’t need the heating on until this week and it usually goes on in October, but it has been so mild. Don’t have the washing machine on every day, but our short cycle is cheaper than the Eco cycle. Currently it’s 6p per wash.

ballsdeep · 04/11/2021 22:29

@MattHancocksSexTape

A load of washing a day?
Why are you surprised?! We do at least two full loads
3luckystars · 04/11/2021 22:35

The dishwasher is very heavy on electricity if you are using one. I found this out when ours broke for over a month and our electricity bill was so much less!

Titsywoo · 04/11/2021 22:41

I was paying £150 a month with Bulb and they want to put it up to £365 a month! I agreed to £200 as we are all out of the house now from 9 to 4 unlike last year so I'm hoping their usage estimates are way off. I'm being very tight with the heating now. Luckily we are getting away with 1 to 2 hours a day of heating on as the insulation from refurbing our house is working wonders.

We are also not putting the heating on at our office (we run our own business) but as we are very active packing orders and moving stock we don't need it. Not sure I'll be saying the same come January!

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 04/11/2021 22:46

I was paying £89 a month and am in credit, they are now taking £149 a month. We have Shell.

TheDeadlyNightShade · 05/11/2021 17:52

We were with Pure Planet with a DD of £140 a month but that’s just jumped to £238 a month with Shell, who they’ve moved us too.

Nogoodusername · 05/11/2021 23:11

Was pure planet and paying around £170 per month, now doubled - can’t remember which new supplier we got moved to

Near £350 a month?! Shock For your energy? WTAF?
LittleDandelionClock · 05/11/2021 23:24

Have people REALLY had their energy bumped up to £350 a month?

We pay £85 for gas and electric combined for a small-ish 3 bed cottage. (British gas.) Nothing has gone up yet. Maybe we are in for a shock soon!

FourTeaFallOut · 05/11/2021 23:29

We are on a fixed rate till March and we spend £160/month dual fuel so I expect we'll be looking at that kind of figure then LittleDandelionClock.

I think I may be on a fixed rate. I am sure BG put me (and DH) on a fixed rate tariff for 2 years around March 2020, so I am not looking forward to it ending! Shock

We spend £85 a month duel fuel, but we do have a small-ish 3 bed cottage with a fairly new central heating system. So it's very efficient. We have loft insulation and cavity wall insulation too, and everything we have is energy efficient, so our bills are quite low. (At the moment!)

Dreamstate · 05/11/2021 23:43

I've just moved onto standard variable a sits significantly cheaper than the fixed deal EDF was offering After mine finished. By comparions the fixed deal was £120pm and on standard itll be £80pm based on my usage.

I'm only spending £1.30 a day both gas and electricity. Haven't turned on my heating yet, heated blanket is working fine for now and incredibly cheap to run something like 4p an hour.

Pure Planet customers have been moved to Shell.
Notcontent · 06/11/2021 00:12

I am dreading to think what my bill is going to be. My electricity usage is not that high but heating is on low about 5 days a week.

RaoulDufysCat · 06/11/2021 00:20

Our direct debit has gone from £100 to £180 to cover the year's bills. And we are paying back a business bounceback loan which has kept us solvent over the past 18 months. So approx £400 to find per month. It will be hard.

Snoozer11 · 06/11/2021 01:18

After rent, bills and food I am going to have nothing left.

Never mind the environmental effect, eh

Of what?

AgnesDay · 06/11/2021 01:30

Aye it's expensive and it's shit alright. People to blame: that Thunberg chap (seriously has no fucking idea); de Pfeffel, obviously, mussing your hair up doesn't make you normal, you fucking cunt.

One fire is not going to have an impact. Instead of virtue signalling to normal people trying to stay warm in November, perhaps aim your ire to the entire countries and industries that are fucking up the planet.
