Feeling sick with worry. Breast Clinic app today

TwentinQuarantino · 01/11/2021 13:50

I have an urgent referral to the breast clinic today at 5pm. Quite late and wish it had been earlier in the morning so it was done and dusted. But I guess I'm lucky I got an app so quickly within the 2 week wait as some hospitals are taking a lot longer.

But I keep thinking the worst and feel like I can't breathe, I'm so anxious and scared. Keep sneaking off upstairs to have a little cry as I don't want DC to see. DH isn't allowed inside with me but I want him nearby incase it's bad news. My right shoulder blade has been hurting for a couple of weeks, right breast is very tender and I've googled myself into an early grave. Just a few hours to go. I guess it will be a relief either way, this wait is killing me.

@Blackopal thanks so much, sorry to highjack your thread OP, just very similar to my situation but my GP was adamant without a lump I wouldn't be seen, regardless of all the other weird stuff going on.

I'm so glad you were OK OP, my DH also has health anxiety and has basically written me off Grin

So pleased for you. Polly, hope you get the support/care you need

That's brilliant news @TwentinQuarantino and thank you for your very kind reassurance. I have had a crap day so you taking the time and the fact you can reassure me has really helped.

Enjoy your sons birthday now!

@PollyPepper

Great news OP. I'm pleasantly surprised by your experience. I went to my GP last week with pain in my right breast, swelling, itchy, a rash, and reddening. It also feels very different to my left one, firmer and different shape now. GP examined me and said that because she couldn't feel a lump I would not be reffered to the breast clinic. I queried this, as at times the other symptoms really are quite alarming, and she said if she reffered me they would just say no because there isn't a lump??

I too have quite fibrous boobs.

I'm wondering reading your thread if I should go back and push for a refferal? Or did they say the same to you?

Definitely go back. My GP said he is going to refer me even though I wasn't sure there was a lump as I think I have felt something before. Your symptoms are enough to be referred I think. Have you seen the check list for signs to look for as you could quote or show that.

@CokeZeroAddiction
Sending you a virtual hug and desperately hope it's nothing serious.

@QuiltedHippo
Wish you all best with your appointment, the waiting is just dreadful but the little ones do well keeping us busy and distracted!

@PollyPepper
Gosh no, hijack away! I'm shocked your GP refused to refer you, because Itchiness, redness, a difference in breasts etc are all symptoms which need to be investigated. I read in an article that 1 in 6 women with BC present with symptoms other than a raised lump. I hope that doesn't alarm you, but I would definitely push for a referral. You know your own body and if your breasts feel different then something is off. Is it possible to see a different GP in your practice, or the advanced nurse practitioner? I saw the latter at my local practice and she was amazing. Really calm and reassuring, she did a thorough check and told me she is overkill sometimes but isn't willing to take any risks - it's better it be nothing than a missed BC. If they still refuse then maybe change GP practice or go private if you can? Really hope it's nothing serious Flowers

@TwentinQuarantino

Thank you all for your kind words!

All clear! Such a relief. It was very quiet and so I got seen straight away. Yes, the staff was really lovely and chatty - they put me at ease straight away. The doctor did a physical examination first and couldn't feel any lumps although did comment that my breasts feel lumpy. I told her my period is due this week which is probably why! She then sent me off for an ultrasound and the doctor and nurse there were lovely too, told me everything looks fine. Was done within half an hour.

DH makes me laugh. He was in the car and got all teary when I gave him a thumbs up Grin

So pleased for your and your family. X

I'm in the same boat, just been referred on a two week referral for a breast lump.

So glad for you OP that it was good news.
