Oh I love George Michael, especially his Christmas songs. December Song always brings a tear to my eye.

SilverTonguedDevil · 30/10/2021 14:41

@ImUninsultable
"She did it for traffic. I wouldnt have opened a thread saying "to think sometimes only George Michael hits the spot"

I only opened it to find out who George was. So guess it worked. And she's getting responses."

But what's the point of tricking people, who have no interest in GM, to open the thread?
It seems strange to me.
Do people get off on the number of views a thread gets?

NewLaptop · 30/10/2021 14:47

You're not wrong! A bit of George for cleaning, another bit for driving, some for dancing, some for singing you a lullaby.....I could go on. I blooming love George! Always have, always will Grin

NewLaptop · 30/10/2021 14:48

And now look what you made me do! I haven't posted anything in ages. But how could I not reply to this? :)

Tricking people? Proper con woman Grin

Monolithique · 30/10/2021 14:54

Yes he had a great voice . My teens like him also so not just people who remember the 80s.

Thought the rest of the title would end 'would be a suitable next king ..

YouJustFoldItIn · 30/10/2021 14:57

I think GM is one of those artists like Robbie Williams - easy to take for granted as very commercial, middle of the road artists, but sometimes you need to be reminded of just how good they really are, when they are on top form.

I was on a longish flight recently. Scrolling throught the audio selection I settled on the album Listen Without Predudice. I'd bought it and listened to it on a loop when it first came out in 1990 then just shelved it for about 30 years.

It's absolutely spectacular. Properly fucking amazing. I'd forgotten.

RIP George.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 30/10/2021 14:59

@SlugRose

Could you not have put the whole of the first sentence in the title?
my sentiments exactly It's like click bait and I fell for it🤬
ColinTheKoala · 30/10/2021 15:02

@itsgettingwierd

I thought this was going to be a thread about Asda clothing 🤣

But you aren't wrong about George Michael. He's just easy to listen too.

He doesn't hit the spot better than Phil Collins though

I agree with all of this post Grin
Crankley · 30/10/2021 15:22

He does nothing for me. Freddie Mercury on the other hand always hits the spot.

You did not just compare George Michael to Robbie Williams Confused

Yep.

George Michael was way down on the list of which George I thought this was about. Serves me right for being curious though.

Journeyofthedragons · 30/10/2021 15:45

I miss ol' GM, was never the biggest fan of all of his music but he was a great guy.

Listened to Father Figure the other day and it sounded fab.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/10/2021 17:44

If it's cleaning music you want then ...................

I'm on #Team Freddie

Dumbledoresgirl · 31/10/2021 17:49

I'm a Freddie fan too, but George's version of Somebody to Love is actually as good as Freddie's, which is a miracle in itself. I have never been a fan of Wham and GM as such, but I admire his voice and his talent and, for some reason, I found his death, alone on Christmas Day, utterly haunting.

MissyB1 · 31/10/2021 17:54

A different corner - omg!! Reduces me to tears every time!
Yes a bit of George never did anyone any harm.

George blew everyone away at the tribute concert with his performance. Truly up there with the best.
cinnamonwhirl · 03/11/2021 13:34

Love George Michael and often play his music. His voice is so expressive and has a lovely tone. So many good songs - Everything she wants (full version), Club Tropicana, Too funky, Older, Outside, Fast Love, Star People. You have been loved reminds me of Princess Diana's death as it was played a lot on the radio in that awful week before her funeral. December Song is not played enough at Christmas.

ShowOfHands · 03/11/2021 15:56

We compiled a thread of people's feelings about George. You won't believe response 18.

KatherineJaneway · 06/11/2021 17:49

Jesus to a Child is a beautiful song

Ponoka7 · 06/11/2021 17:53

Cleaning aside, I often forget how good and ahead of his time, Freddie Mercury was.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 06/11/2021 17:58

Firstly, I thought this thread was going to be about Prince George 🤣 but am delighted to see it’s about GM, whom I absolutely adore. Thanks OP. Going to put him on Alexa when I’m making Sunday lunch tomorrow.

Secondly the poster who compares him to Robbie Williams needs to leave this thread Shock there’s absolutely no comparison, RW is utter shite, horrible horrible voice and zero talent, I can’t BEAR him.

GM’s voice and songwriting talent were divine.

PolaDeVeboise · 06/11/2021 18:00

George is perfect for EVERY occasion. I, for one, clicked on the thread HOPING it would be about him.

Glad you said that @Tanyaexoticsexgoddess - an absolute insult! And, as for Phil Collins @itsgettingwierd? DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH.

DoubleEggNChips · 06/11/2021 18:10

I cleaned to a soundtrack of George just last weekend. Deep cleaned my kitchen listening to a Spotify playlist taken from all his albums.

Started off with the upbeat ones, so I was really getting in to scrubbing my floor to Freedom 90, Faith, Fast Love and Everything She Wants Grin. But by the time I was finishing up I was sobbing to You Have Been Loved.

A big regret of mine is that I never saw him live. He was such a lovely, talented soul.

Maestoso · 06/11/2021 18:26

I think he was a poet. Beautiful lyrics.
