A.I.B.U not being on cocaine or smoking weed?

Drinkwinewithme · 29/10/2021 20:46

Because everyone and his neighbour seem to be and no one says a word any more. I do not know many who do not take cocaine or weed. It,s all over my workplace- i know those who take it and don't we know when the weekends over, in awful moods.

The smell of weed is everywhere now. By shops , by schools, i can smell on peoples clothes and wonder really if i called the police would they laugh down the phone and suggest they thought it too be legal since lockdown, stop wasting police time?

@MissyB1 ok dear

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/10/2021 17:58

I know people who smoke and you wouldn't know. I also work with someone who smokes and thinks it doesn't affect him and it does. Everyone is different.

Morgan12 · 30/10/2021 18:03

I know loads of recreational cocaine users. Teachers, doctors, postman, accountants, call centre workers. Its everywhere. But I don't know anyone addicted to it. These people all lead normal lives and occasionally use.

I know one person addicted to weed. Smokes it all day everyday and has done for around 15 years. He is a total mess. He can't see it. Its ruined his life.

WorraLiberty · 30/10/2021 18:03

Yeah I know people who would swear no one else knows they smoke cannabis, no one could possibly guess etc…meantime we all know, we just keep quiet about it.

That's absolutely untrue.

Many people have the odd recreational joint at the weekend for example and their colleagues on Monday morning wouldn't have a clue.

Just as you wouldn't have a clue that someone had a glass of wine on a Friday night, when they arrive at work on a Monday morninng.

Sillawithans · 30/10/2021 18:06

@WorraLiberty I was going to give a similar example.

MissyB1 · 30/10/2021 18:08

@WorraLiberty sillawithans specifically stated that they smoke weed every day!! Not just once a week!
I’ve worked with colleagues who would never admit in a million years, and would be convinced no one could tell. Of course we could we weren’t bloody stupid! If you have a daily weed habit be sure that people can tell.

Jaxhog · 30/10/2021 18:10

I'm not, and I don't know anyone else who is.

Sillawithans · 30/10/2021 18:12

@MissyB1 how can you tell. Unless I present like a stereotypical weed smoker you would never know. I'm not going into work with red eye, you can't smell it off me, I live in a beautiful home, nice car etc. My physical appearance would give nothing away. The only thing that might make you wonder is that I'm a mum to 4 teenagers and that would drive anyone to drink or drugs 😁

longwayoff · 30/10/2021 18:15

Friend's son visited his long-estranged father some years ago, he would have been in his early 70s then and disabled with difficulty walking. Warily she asked how it went. 'It wasn't great, I was there for a few hours during which time he smoked about £200 worth of crack'. But how did he get it if he can't walk? 'His carer brought it for him.' Speechless. Cocaine is a nasty, nasty drug.

MissyB1 · 30/10/2021 18:16

Smokers probably think they don’t smell of fags - of course they do. I grew up in a house where my dad smoked. My mum kept us scrupulously clean, sprayed our hair before school with nice leave in conditioner etc.. we would still definitely have smelt of fags.
You will think there are no give away signs, but there always are. I know a functioning alcoholic, he hides it well, but lots of people have guessed.
What you do is absolutely your own business, it would make no odds to me, but don’t fool yourself.

TheUser420 · 30/10/2021 18:19

@Sillawithans

I remember years ago when Leah Betts died, think it was the 90's. I'm pretty sure her death kept me away from ecstasy etc.
Leah Betts sadly died of overdosing on water. Or in a more general sense, of ignorance.

Personally I wouldn't touch MDMA if you paid me but chaque a son (ou ses) gout as they might say.

Lincslady53 · 30/10/2021 19:46

@darkn

I can't help but think anyone tempted to try hard drugs should just go for the legal (and quite a bit cheaper) alternative of colourfully frosted cupcakes. I speak from experience when I say thick blue buttercream gives you a great high! And you're less likely to kill people under the influence

perhaps but sugar really is no better and it kills and contributes to more diseases than all the drugs combined.

I have never heard of anyone having psychotic, violent rages after eating a cup cake.
Bringonthepjs · 30/10/2021 20:11

Leah Betts was so sad, didn't stop me from taking ecstasy though. Age did, just grew out of it. Wouldn't ever touch coke - also know hypocritical twonks who swear by their artisan bread whilst exploiting the cocaine trade. Do smell weed everywhere agree.

You remove a lot of the social issues if you just legalise.

This is such bullshit. You're opening Pandora's box by legalising it. It really fucks people up and legalising it sends the message that it's harmless. .

Not bullshit, look at Portugal.

I'd argue that legal alcohol and illegal cannabis sends the message that the law is stupid. Decriminalising (done properly) sends the message that drug use isn't a criminal matter, it's a public health emergency. Addicts aren't criminals, they're victims. And what's needed isn't prisons, it's treatment, housing and MH services.

Suicide was decriminalised. Anorexia isn't criminal. Self harm. Because although they are harmful and damaging and cause deaths, we recognise them as health issues, caused by trauma, not criminal matters solved by prosecution.

WHAT really fucks people up.

Specifics pls?

FromEden · 30/10/2021 21:53

You are likely to be drug driving (over the drug drive limit) and end up in court having lost your drivers license if you give a sample of blood within 72 hours of smoking Cannabis. That is how long your driving can be affected

That's just how long traces of cannabis remain in your bloodstream (I thought it was longer than that though). It doesn't mean you will be in anyway intoxicated or to the extent that your driving will be affected. It's bullshit

Yayadingdong99 · 29/11/2021 13:23

It's not so much the drug taking (depending on the type of drug involved and whether you have kids or not. For example weed compared to Class A drugs). It's when someone does it behind your back. The trust is gone then and I would find it hard to live a life of constant worry if they are doing it or not for example.

Lanareyrey · 29/11/2021 14:32

YANBU. Most of my school mum friends like drop mdma on Friday night drinks and coke is rife in my social circle. Hate it so much. People turn into such assholes. As if drinking wasn’t bad enough…

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 29/11/2021 14:34

I don't do either, but it does seem that smoking weed in public has become the "norm" and no-one gets called out on it. It absolutely stinks and to me is no different from someone swigging alcohol walking down the street.

Smokeyfish · 29/11/2021 14:54

I hate the smell of weed and it is everywhere.

See I don't think it's the same at all. I find alcohol a lot worse (although I understand what you mean by the smell). But I have never heard of people getting into fights or acting aggressively, throwing up in the street or getting themselves into ridiculously dangerous situation after smoking a joint.
WhatATimeToBeAlive · 29/11/2021 14:57

There was a man walking behind me yesterday who was smoking a joint. It bothers me as much as if someone behind me was drinking alcohol. You just know their head isn't in the right place.
