Drinkwinewithme · 29/10/2021 20:46

Because everyone and his neighbour seem to be and no one says a word any more. I do not know many who do not take cocaine or weed. It,s all over my workplace- i know those who take it and don't we know when the weekends over, in awful moods.

The smell of weed is everywhere now. By shops , by schools, i can smell on peoples clothes and wonder really if i called the police would they laugh down the phone and suggest they thought it too be legal since lockdown, stop wasting police time?

Do you work in advertising op?

I was just thinking "advertising". But coke in advertising is not a recent thing.

I work in hospitality and genuinely haven't come across it that I know of...

TuftyMarmoset · 29/10/2021 22:23

Stevie Nicks was addicted to cocaine, then they put her on a sedative to get her off the coke and she got addicted to that instead, awful. I'm not aware of knowing people that take it but I would never willingly associate with people who did given the suffering that will have been caused in its production.

And I am also sick of my town stinking of weed. Can't they breed the smell out of it?

NiceGerbil · 29/10/2021 22:33

In USA misuse of legal prescription drugs is causing an appalling amount of deaths.

Drugs are drugs. Legal/ illegal is political.

You used to be able to get tinctures here for eg from pharmacy. Without laudanum etc we'd be missing a fair bit of poetry etc!

NiceGerbil · 29/10/2021 22:35

And some great music too from last few decades...

Anonymous48 · 29/10/2021 22:37

I don't know anyone who uses marijuana or cocaine. We must move in different circles!

darkn · 29/10/2021 22:45

It used to be a thing for rebellious young people or people on the fringes of society, but I agree, it's everywhere now

meh, I don't think so, this was just the impression we had as kids. It was always prevalent around all ages and all classes.

darkn · 29/10/2021 22:52

I can't help but think anyone tempted to try hard drugs should just go for the legal (and quite a bit cheaper) alternative of colourfully frosted cupcakes. I speak from experience when I say thick blue buttercream gives you a great high! And you're less likely to kill people under the influence

perhaps but sugar really is no better and it kills and contributes to more diseases than all the drugs combined.

darkn · 29/10/2021 22:54

*At least ecstasy makes people loved up and bring people together, weed can be good for pain relief. Psychedelics can be mind opening, does something interesting brain-wise.

Coke just makes people into awful, selfish, boring twats, and is I believe the most unethical*

ectasy does the exact same. Also, coke usually gives people the love buzz connection too.

True dat. I get whacked off my tits every time I make the kids' birthday cakes.

My son started on weed when he was about 13, we didn't know. He went off to uni, and got more involved. It has totally wrecked his life. He can't hold down a job or relationship, he has paranoid delusions and gets violent if we disagree with him. We had to call the police when he attacked my husband last year. He is now 40, and we cannot see how he will get out of the mess he has created for himself. We have always been anti drugs and smoking, my father in law smoked and had a very awful end to his life, 30 years of ailments caused by smoking till he finally died in his 80s. We have always tried to install the importance of work. We know 3 other families, all middle class, all supportive parents whose sons have similar problems. Cannabis is a dreadful drug, it is NOT safe, dealers should be banged up. When we found out what he was into it at uni, we tried to point out the dangers, but the papers were full of reports on how it should be legalised, and in his mind, that proved he was right and we were wrong on the dangers. Even now, he doesn't consider there is anything wrong with him and we cannot get him to go and get help. I would not wish what we have to put up with on anyone else, and would like to see the law crack down heavily on users and dealers. If the drug was illegal and the law strict on it, he may never have got involved. It is a fucking nightmare.

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/10/2021 23:15

The more accessible you make something the more people use it.

Legalisation and decriminalisation hasn't caused that in the places it's been tried.

sounds like a close friend of mine. The danger is the lie that weed is harmless when it's far from that. I was addicted to it myself, it consumes you.

jetadore · 29/10/2021 23:18

I don’t, but wouldn’t mind trying LSD.

blanketg · 29/10/2021 23:24

I'm so over the stench

blanketg · 29/10/2021 23:26

Never touched cocaine, none of my friends did either. We grew up in a then rough part of London & the reality of drugs puts you off!

blanketg · 29/10/2021 23:28

If any young person comes in with a heart attack the first thing they think is "coke".

my heart went a bit funny after an infection & the first thing the medics asked was have I been binge drinking if doing drugs.

KarmaStar · 29/10/2021 23:31

Oh come on!!!are you bored?perhaps change your friendship circle.

blanketg · 29/10/2021 23:34

I agree weed can be dangerous

hartof · 29/10/2021 23:42

I don't know if I've lived under a rock all my life but until I moved 3 years ago I didn't know anybody who did coke. Then we moved, invited to a neighbours kids (aged 4) birthday party and dh was offered coke. Since then I've seen them do it, witnessed them on it and heard of them doing it regularly in front of their kids.

It did make me question whether it was any worse than having a few drinks in front of your kids? I wouldn't do it but I do like a wine so it made me wonder.

ANameChangeAgain · 29/10/2021 23:43

I don't think its normal as such, and I think those who take it are very much looked down on.
The couple of ex-stoners I know have suffered mentally from their old habits. They seem to mostly struggle with concentration.
I strongly believe there is a necessity for legalised medicinal cannabis, but hate the fact that in my area the police know where the kids taking drug hang out but do nothing. It really uncomfortable, 19-21 year old young adult are in the centre group with lots of kids hanging around, some as young as 14. It's so unsafe as the place is strewn with empty vodka bottles and used condoms.

ThatNameAgainItsMrPlow · 29/10/2021 23:48

you don’t get a lot of heroin these days

Clearly you don’t live in Scotland

Cheeseplantboots · 29/10/2021 23:52

I’m confused. I don’t know of anyone that takes cocaine or smokes weed. I’ve never touched cocaine, although I smoked my fair share of weed in my youth.

It’s certainly not everywhere.

AdoptedBumpkin · 29/10/2021 23:54

Of course not.

Duckypoohs · 30/10/2021 00:03

Tbh the local sainsburys often reeks of weed. I don't really care because I sometimes partake. Have never taken any harder drugs whatsoever, unless in a medical context. Meh tbh, alcohol is so much worse, but no one buying wine is criminalised.
