I advertised a toy on FB. In pristine condition for £1 (would normally sell new for £8).

Someone living in a very wealthy area has asked me to deliver the toy to them when they know it's a 15 mile round trip. They don't want to know now that I've suggested a few pounds delivery charge for petrol and my time. It would still make the toy half of what it would cost in the shops.

AIBU to be flabbergasted at how some people expect the world to owe them something when they're already getting an amazing deal?

They seem really miffed at my suggestion of a delivery charge. Why on earth would I deliver something for £1 when it would cost me more than that in petrol let alone my time? CF!!! I can't believe the gall of some people.

People on FBMP are ridiculous. Just say "No sorry, collection only" and if no one wants it, give to charity.

MichelleScarn · 28/10/2021 23:52

It's worse when you offer something for free..
You get a 'drop 2 me 2mro at 2, wat els u got. Needz be perfect'

LabiaMinoraPissusFlapus · 28/10/2021 23:54

This is why I stopped going on Freecycle. People wanted free delivery on top of their free goods! Plus so many questions about the free product!

CuckooCall · 28/10/2021 23:57

Yeah there are so many pricks on FBMP. We advertised something along the lines of "£5, collection only" and got inundated with "I'll give you £2. Can you deliver"? Erm how about no, you absolute moron! It's honestly more hassle than it's worth flogging stuff on MP.

MazIsWin22 · 29/10/2021 00:02

YANBU

I got one not so long ago when I was selling a jacket for £25 ono. They offered £10 and I just wanted rid so I said yeah, they then asked me to make a 45 minute journey to drop it off to them. Was genuinely shocked hahaha

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 29/10/2021 00:04

As well as the above, I also think the likes of Amazon have blurred the thinking of a lot of people. They figure that, if Amazon (with their huge international, multi-billion, economies of scale professional operation) can deliver it free, why can't you?

I think it's a bit like how people are now so used to a clever app being able to do many things in a moment, they often struggle to comprehend all the time and effort that an actual person, having to do something that can only be done manually, might have put in for them - much less see any need to say thank you to them.

halloweenqwueeeen · 29/10/2021 00:10

Is it really worth selling stuff on Facebook for One English pound?! Confused

TurnUpTurnip · 29/10/2021 00:24

Was about to ask the same, can’t understand selling something for a pound I mean is it really worth the headache?

FlamingElle · 29/10/2021 00:33

FBMP is getting bloody awful...

Bloke: How much is the item
Me: as advertised, it's £40
Bloke: it's £20
Me: no, it's definitely £40 and I'm selling it for my kid, no bartering. He's at Uni so if it doesn't sell here it sells there
Bloke: ok. What time can I collect

Woman: is the item still available?
Me: Yes. Are you interested?
Woman: no, it's too expensive

Fucking idiots.

80Dodgeballs · 29/10/2021 00:34

I had lots of toys for a pound so would end up with £15 ish. Well that was my hope.

And everything is relative isn't it? We really don't have much money at all so each one of those pounds make a difference to us. I priced them at a pound to sell because I need the money and I need the clutter gone. Every penny will go on buying my kids Christmas presents this year.

People are definitely cheeky though, I remember selling a pram for £100 and when the woman got to my house she handed me £80 and said “it was 80 wasn’t it” she knew it wasn’t but obviously planned to pretend she thought it was 80, I wasn’t going to say no as I just wanted it gone but I remember thinking how cheeky she was and deliberately planned to do that

80Dodgeballs · 29/10/2021 00:41

Yes, that happened to me too. Worse, it was a friend trying it on. She handed me the money and I checked it and she was like "oh, I thought it was £20". I knew she was faking it. Appalling!

Nobody is forcing you to buy stuff so at least have the decency to cough up the right amount or not negotiate down.

Yabu. But that's for using fb marketplace - I think they're all deranged on there. You might do better at a local car boot sale. It's shocking what people will buy from them, so you could try to sell allsorts that you no longer need Smile

IsDaveThere · 29/10/2021 00:50

I've voted YABU because you could just say NO!

IsDaveThere · 29/10/2021 00:52

In fact, selling for £1 wouldn't even be worth my time and effort posting it in the first place.

Sorry, it must have been so annoying - but those did make me LOL!
Saz12 · 29/10/2021 00:59

Better than landfill and easier than charity shop. Also lots of £1 items add up!
Way better to charge small amount than advertising as being free.... that really is the way to hating Orher People!

Glitterandunicorns · 29/10/2021 01:00

I seem to recall reading a study whereby people were more likely to show up to buy your item if you sold it for £1 as opposed to giving it away for free because this gave the buyer the perception of getting a bargain rather than taking an item that someone didn't value enough to charge for it.

I’ve had to ask my best friend to bank transfer me 47p for after school club as I’m short until tomorrow when I get paid, if I didn’t pay today they’d have lost their place next week and I wouldn’t be able to go to work. Good for you that you’ve never been desperate for a quid :)
RobertaFirmino · 29/10/2021 01:22

It happens on Ebay too. I accept offers on stuff and yes, I can and do say no but the cheek of some people, honestly! I often Google the postcodes of the CFs and it is always people in 'naice' areas who'll offer you £2 for a BN Hobbs wool skirt or similar! Maybe this is how they can afford to live where they do!

@Winniemarysarah I can relate, I've been there too. Is this just a one off or a regular thing? The £10 a day thread can be quite helpful. Hope things look up soon.

BIL was giving away a lounge and was asked if he would deliver it.

Asked them (tongue in cheek) if they would like anything else picked up along the way... needless to say they didn't receive the lounge.

I'm intrigued as to what a lounge is in this context @expat101

OP put "collection only" on your ads. It doesn't stop CFs asking you to deliver but reduces it a bit.
