To think it's not getting as dark as it normally does by 6pm this time of year?

It's 6pm and the sky looks like this (pic).

I remember it's usually pitch black by 4pm this time of year. AIBU to think it's odd?

Pitch black by 4pm in October, before the clocks go back? Where do you live - the arctic?

Coffeeisnecessary · 27/10/2021 18:03

Clocks change this weekend! Seems normal to me but to be honest I don't keep track.

Pinkchocolate · 27/10/2021 18:03

My view is darker than that. It’s as grim as ever.

Newrumpus · 27/10/2021 18:04

Just wait a week or two. You’ll notice the difference next week.

Starcaller · 27/10/2021 18:04

Shortest day isn't till Dec 21 so quite a way to go!

Dark in the north of Scotland though!

Sparkai · 27/10/2021 18:05

It's never pitch black at 4pm this time of year.

devildeepbluesea · 27/10/2021 18:05

Clacks haven't gone back yet, but tbh I've been feeling that it's lighter than usual.

Mind you, it's just as dark at 7am when I need to walk the dog. Roll on Sunday, and another month or so of lighter walkeslls.

devildeepbluesea · 27/10/2021 18:05

walks

FOJN · 27/10/2021 18:05

The clocks haven't changed yet but I don't think it's usually dark at 4pm at the end of October. Sunrise and sunset change by roughly 2 minutes each day.

Boaby · 27/10/2021 18:05

I’ve noticed that too! Also, the leaves are still mostly green - usually by this time of year they’re a lovely autumnal colour (or on the ground).

Sorry, no help here 😂

Frogsonglue · 27/10/2021 18:05

The clocks haven't gone back yet!

RobinPenguins · 27/10/2021 18:05

Waaaay darker than that here. I can’t wait for the clocks to go back though because dark mornings are worse than dark evenings for me.

StormTreader · 27/10/2021 18:06

Even I would be hard-pressed to try and blame this one on Brexit or something Grin "The EU is already dark by now!"

CSJobseeker · 27/10/2021 18:07

Clocks haven't gone back yet. This is totally normal for the time of year.

Unless.... have you moved house from Scotland to the south coast (or similar) since last year?

EatYourVegetables · 27/10/2021 18:07

I was just thinking about that - worried our pumpkins will not look very impressive on Sunday if it’s not dark!!

dementedpixie · 27/10/2021 18:07

It's darker than that where I am in Scotland

PivotPivotPivottt · 27/10/2021 18:08

Clocks go back on the 31st and usually the way the last Sunday falls it's before Halloween they go back so that could be why you feel it's lighter this year. Im in Scotland and in about 15/20 minutes it will be really dark.

WorriedGiraffe · 27/10/2021 18:09

It’s been fairly mild weather wise here, maybe it’s not as cloudy and feels lighter to you. The planet hasn’t started rotating differently though so it was really be lighter than previous years! Clocks change soon anyway.

CSJobseeker · 27/10/2021 18:10

If you google sunset times for any UK location for 2020 and 2021, they definitely haven't changed. And the clocks never go back before the last weekend in October.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 27/10/2021 18:10

Pitch black here now

Starcaller · 27/10/2021 18:10

This time next week you’ll be wondering why you posted this😆….,make the most of the light now!! And yes, we’ve had warm autumns before - kids have been in the beach and in the sea for many (in fact this year is a bit of a let down to be fair!!)

The clocks will have gone back by Sunday.
TrampolineForMrKite · 27/10/2021 18:11

I thought this tonight in south London. I have had a ping though.

CSJobseeker · 27/10/2021 18:13

I'm actually really shocked at the posts agreeing with the OP, and worrying about whether it'll be dark on Halloween. I would have assumed that everyone in the UK was familiar with the whole 'clocks going back' thing...?

Every day's a school day I guess.
