Is this a scam?

I posted months ago about a Royal Mail insufficient postage card I received abs that was he gone but people on here mentioned there was a scam.

Anyway I received a customs notice the other day and put it to one side as I wasn't sure what it was but later received a message from a friend in the US saying she had sent something. I cannot find the notice the notice now so haven't paid the customs fee.

Just now I have seen I have a text asking me to pay a fee for a PO redelivery and I have immediately clicked on it and put in my card details (I am up feeding baby). It was only £2.10 I think but now what do I do?

I have just frozen my card but is it too late?

I only did it because I am aware of this item being held by customs and was relieved to get the text but I don't think this was the genuine PO site

This is what the message says

Sorry your parcel is still at the depot due to a fee please visit: po-re-schedule .co.uk

The website it has directed you to doesn’t seem legit. The post office wouldn’t contact you by text. Did you put other details in?

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 27/10/2021 04:18

I put in my name, address, date of birth and card details!! What ab idiot

OP posts:
BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 27/10/2021 04:19

I'm normally so careful but with expecting that other item abs having just woken up for a feed I have done something idiotic

I have frozen my card as nothing as been taken yet.

OP posts:
GiltEdges · 27/10/2021 04:24

Yep, that's not a genuine website. If you've frozen your card that's a start but you've also provided other personal data which potentially leaves you vulnerable to identify fraud. Contact your bank's fraud team for advice; they're generally open 24 hours a day.

alexdgr8 · 27/10/2021 04:26

just an extra tip, heard today on radio that you can contact most uk banks by dialling 159.
this is to avoid being diverted by scammers who keep the line open/divert your call to check if they are legit.

alexdgr8 · 27/10/2021 04:28

be careful that they don't use your personal details to open a line of credit in your name.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 27/10/2021 04:30

I'll call the bank in the morning

Honestly I usually am so careful

I'm quite annoyed now!!

May cancel card and request a new one

OP posts:
BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 27/10/2021 04:32

But not sure how I prevent them doing anything else with my details

Im especially annoyed as person who sent me something from US has been asking about it and I felt pressured to dubs the customers notice and sort it which is partly why I fell for this

But I'm mainly annoyed at the twats who try toy steal from us!

AllTheCakes · 27/10/2021 04:33

I would sign up to Experian so you can see what credit is in your name and what is being applied for.

Some really good advice here on what to do, including contacting your bank: www.experian.co.uk/consumer/identity/phishing.html

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 27/10/2021 04:54

I wish my phone had

I've signed up to Experian

Credit score is 999! So will I just keep an eye if this changes and report if something suspicious?

Honestly i am so annoyed with myself as I know better but I think I was still half asleep!

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 27/10/2021 05:00

Now I'm worried about putting my details on Experian

prodmove.experian.co.uk/switch

Is this genuine?

And will need to unfreeze my card payment to sign up for use identity protect

Or is that not a good idea?

Honestly, I'd still recommend contacting your bank in the morning. The fraud team will be able to cancel your card and issue a new one when they speak to you. They may also recommend you sign up to other services which offer fraud monitoring online.

Also, Experian aren't the only credit reference agency so won't necessarily give a comprehensive view of any potential issues.

Don't unfreeze the card. Call your bank. Honestly.

what web browser do you have on your phone id reccomend google chrome just check the history settings it will record everything including youtube history sometimes its useful sometimes it isnt. Also has great password management remembers them all for you. make sure you set it up as default web browser and it will always be on no matter where you try to open a web link. Id personally google the website address and add a space with the word scams and see if they are known for any particular so you know what to look out for.

Whatup · 27/10/2021 11:07

the dodgy website address that is

Mamamia7962 · 27/10/2021 11:18

Royal Mail would never contact you by text or phone call. How would they even know your number. Royal Mail always put a card through your door with options on the back if they have been unable to deliver anything.

Seasonschange · 27/10/2021 11:42

Op I did this once years ago . It’s a horrible feeling waiting to see if someone opens credit under your name and like you I cringe now thinking how obvious it was the website asked for details BT in my case never would have needed (like dob). I would still be sensible with checking credit lines etc but just remember they must get thousands of peoples details so now you’ve cancelled your card probably nothing will happen.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 27/10/2021 11:59

@Mamamia7962 I get loads of texts from Royal Mail about parcels. All are genuine. I have no idea how though, as I haven't shared my number with the companies sending me parcels.
I have given Royal Mail my number recently when we moved house. Surely they aren't bothering to cross reference.

I absolutely would not acknowledge a text from them that asked me to pay a fee though.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 27/10/2021 21:14

I normally wouldn't have responded but I think I was half asleep. It was a 4 am feed abs I'd just woken up and by the time if filled it all in I was wide awake 😫

I called natwest and cancelled the card this morning but had frozen it immediately and it wasn't showing a payment

The person I spoke to at NatWest said they won't be able to do anything with my name, address and DOB if they didn't also have card (now cancelled) or bank details (I didn't give bank details) but Im not sure whether that's true.

Not may! You need to cancel the card and get a new one. The bank will do this once you speak to them anyway. They can also put fraud markers on. You can also register for CIFAS I think it's called through experian, equifax etc.
