Cold Pizza in lunchbox?

PizzaInLunchbox · 26/10/2021 13:31

Odd or fine?

My 7yo is saying it’s her favourite (not warm or hot cold) and she wants it for lunch at school.

I’d obviously cook the pizza the night before let it cool right down. Would be just cheese and tomato as she doesn’t like any other kind of pizza.

WIBU to put a cold slice of pizza in her lunchbox instead of sandwiches? I’d also include a small biscuit (like a penguin), cucumber and/or carrot sticks, an apple or banana, and then some cocktail sausages or similar.

Just pondering for next week when shes back.

Completely fine. Mine also loves a slice or two of quiche.

Incidentally, he also enjoys hummus, but not with veg.

toolazytothinkofausername · 26/10/2021 13:53

@Brieandcamembert

Not great having pizza sausage and chocolate as a lunch. Very nutritionally poor even with a couple of veg sticks thrown in.

How about wholewheat hummus and veg wraps or cream cheese / chicken sandwiches. No sausage chocolate or pizza but maybe a yoghurt and fruit with a wrap or sandwich?

Pizza is an ocassional treat not a school lunch.

Boring!
Pinkchocolate · 26/10/2021 13:53

My friend does this and I’ll be doing it too, it’s no different from a cheese and tomato sandwich. It’s fine.

Reallybadidea · 26/10/2021 13:54

French cheeses aren't exactly good for you either, are they?

I think as long as it's homemade pizza it will be fine with the lunchbox police Grin

WellLarDeDar · 26/10/2021 13:54

I don't think there's anything wrong with it but would the teachers/school staff be iffy about it? Maybe switch the chocolate bar for a yogurt or cereal bar?

shinynewapple21 · 26/10/2021 13:54

Sounds fine to me OP.

As others have said - no different to a cheese and tomato sandwich.

ChorizoJacketPotato · 26/10/2021 13:55

The pizza is fine but cocktail sausages and chocolate is a bit much.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 26/10/2021 13:56

I wouldn’t give cold pizza for lunch because in our house it’s eaten for breakfast!!

SevenZebrasDancing · 26/10/2021 13:56

@gamerchick

Why does hummus always get brought up on these threads? I never met anyone who liked it as a kid. Never mind being given it in a school lunch box.
Our school is nut and sesame free so no hummus for lunch.

Sadly because it is something my ASD son loves and I provide in abundance (for the good of his bowel movements mostly!)

MagicWorkout · 26/10/2021 13:56

Save me from the joyless world of hummus wraps (unless you're making your own very processed and high in fat and salt) and yogurt.

The marketing people have done a great job, but why is a commercial sugar and/or addative laden yogurt more healthy than a small chocolate bar?

Of course pizza is a suitable alternative to a cheese sandwich. Maybe not everyday but you wouldn't ideally give the same lunch everyday, whatever it was.

DH's favourite breakfast!

At my school this would be fine. I have children bringing all sorts in, left over pasta etc. A small slice or 2 of pizza wouldn't be terrible!

You could try the wrap pizzas too?

I love a lot of things cold, including pizza. Not a problem at all. Only wish DD12 would eat things like hummus & veg sticks. She eats no fruit & veg as a rule. Incidentally how do you spell hummus?! Lol 🤣

Rain1975 · 26/10/2021 13:59

Mine both took left over pizza today Grin

elbea · 26/10/2021 13:59

We do homemade pitta bread pizzas that go in lunchboxes, I can’t see how they’d be less appropriate than a sandwich.

Here we often make a speedy pizza using a wholemeal pita or wrap as a base topped with tomato sauce (home made and frozen in ice cube tray, specifically for making individual pita pizzas) and topped with cheese and what ever topping). Still counts as pizza here but certainly not something I’d get het up about. Would that pass muster?
hellsbells329 · 26/10/2021 13:59

Absolutely fine. Pizza is essentially bread cheese and tomato so pretty much the same as a sandwich!

Chuckling at the 'nutritionally poor' comment Grin

Sunshineonarainydayy · 26/10/2021 13:59

@tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz same here. The small cheap pizzas from any supermarket work really well in packed lunches.

PizzaInLunchbox · 26/10/2021 14:00

No hummus allowed in our school either.

Wouldn't be giving it every day, don't eat it that often maybe once a month or so and she has school dinners some days as well,

Pizza is on the school dinner menu with chips once a week. But DD won't eat it warm only cold. I can't eat a whole 10 inch pizza by myself so it'd be the left overs of mine. I usually make my own but do occasionally buy the mini fresh bases and just add the sauce and cheese.

The OP asked about pizza because she knows her 7yo daughter will eat it in her lunchbox. You offer suggestions of completely different foods which for all you know the daughter won't touch. This is helpful how?

Left over Chinese for breakfast is also delicious Grin

So cheese and tomato pizza isn't a suitable lunch food but a cheese and meat sandwich is? So bread and cheese fine but you feel that tomato is a less healthy addition than chicken? Right.

OP, I don't think you'll need the sausages as there's cheese in the pizza but if she is hungry on coming out of school add additional Protein going forward. It's a great alternative to a sandwich as long as it isn't a really fatty doughy type, especially with a handful of veggies as you are proposing.

Winecurestiredness · 26/10/2021 14:02

If she will eat it and it will give her energy until pick up time I don't see the issue!

HereWeGoAgains · 26/10/2021 14:03

In my house wholewheat houmous and veg wraps would come back untouched.

Cold pizza is fine, bloody love it.
