Croissant (lighthearted)

Just been to Costa for a iced latte and a croissant, baby was up at about half 4 so caffeine definitely needed.

I've not had one from Costa before but their croissants are straight from the pack, not heated in the oven, so just bready and floppy, not crisp and soft inside. Disappointing. don't think coffee shops should serve croissant unless they are cooked in the oven.

YABU - Croissants straight from the pack as they come are fine

YANBU - this is a crime against pastry

YANBU! You could have popped in to the co op for the same pack at a fraction of the price.

I much prefer Starbucks, though admittedly haven’t ever had a pastry, only a cake. But I much prefer their coffee. Cafe Nero coffee is also lovely.

Costa coffee is also such a disappointment for me.

Sorberret · 25/10/2021 12:26

I like almond croissants dunked in coffee myself! But plain ones taste better heated in the oven with butter and jam Smile

CremeEggThief · 25/10/2021 12:28

YANBU. At least with Greggs if you time it right the croissants and pain-au-chocolats will be still warm from the oven.

dottiedodah · 25/10/2021 12:59

YADNBU! Croissaints are lovely when cooked fresh in a hot oven. Crisp and flaky . Agree with others here Costa are not great at all .Prefer Nero or that ever diminshing place the independent coffee shop!

Pbbananabagel · 25/10/2021 13:03

YANBU! Make the effort to find a small independent coffee shop who not only bake treats in house but make a way better coffee too! (I say this as a coffee shop employee)

@tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz

I tried a gorgeous indie coffee shop a few weeks ago in my local town. Aside from the fact I had a lovely cappuccino (sat outside on their terrace in the sun. BY MYSELF Grin Bliss) they sold almond croissants - and they were huge - for 95p!!!

I couldn't believe how cheap it was! Delicious and well worth the calories.

I think I may revisit.

Please identify this amazing place - I love an almond croissant and nowhere lately have I found a half decent one - it's a thing of the Gods

@SiobhanSharpe

It's fine to like almond or apricot croissants (although not the chocolate and hazelnut ones, they taste artificial and sickly) but they are in a different category to plain ones, which have their own delicious simplicity. They each have a place and time.
I would agree with this and actually, would normally choose plain. But it was my birthday so decided to be Fancy Pants for the day Grin
tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 25/10/2021 14:16

Bea it's a place called Bread and Honey in Leicester. Serves Monmouth coffee too. Closes early unfortunately though.

If you're ever in this neck of the woods St Martins Coffee shop is also excellent.

iklboo · 25/10/2021 14:32

Almond croissant time & place - the bin. Every time. Same with the chocolate ones.

Apricot croissant time & place - hangover sugar & caffeine boost accessory

Plain croissant time & place - anywhere. But best on holidays abroad as part of a continental breakfast

SoupDragon · 25/10/2021 15:04

Apricot croissant time and place

Never. 🤢

PreparationPreparationPrep · 25/10/2021 15:04

If I was going to a chain high street coffe shop for an overpriced croissant it would probably be Pret!

Whatup · 25/10/2021 15:26

pret a manger has amazing croissants but are exspensive. Their chocolate iced milk is amazing if you cant have coffee. The last costa coffee iced caramel frappe i had was amazing.

TSSDNCOP · 25/10/2021 16:00

Yanbu this is why I like Pret

TSSDNCOP · 25/10/2021 16:01

In fact the only thing wrong with a Pret croissant (any flavour) is ghat that are too small. I would prefer one the size of a small car.

itssquidstella · 25/10/2021 16:11

@WheelieBinPrincess omg but Gail's ham and cheese croissants are food of the gods. There's a Gail's right next to my school and I allow myself one a half term as a treat, but if they weren't so unhealthy then I'd have one every day!

DockOTheBay · 25/10/2021 16:14

I love the bakery ones from co-op or lidl. Better than any croissant I've ever had in Costa, nero or Starbucks and about 25% of the price

AtlanticCityProof · 25/10/2021 16:19

Last time I had a croissant in a Costa in a motorway services they heated it properly and it was very good. Perhaps you just need to ask them to heat it.
Unless very good and fresh, they usually do need warming.

You can ask them to heat them. Their chocolate twists are nice!
Gardenlass · 25/10/2021 16:26

A croissant should be warm, flaky and oozing butter, or else hot and stuffed with melted cheese, sliced mushrooms and ham.

Allywill · 25/10/2021 16:27

We have a Costa downstairs in Tesco. I called in once and asked for an almond croissant. The woman replied sorry they have both been sold!!

I was 😳 at the fact they only had two a day to sell. Agree with others - they are shit.

dementedma · 25/10/2021 16:35

Lidl bakery ones are the best

GrumpyPanda · 25/10/2021 16:47

YANBU croissants shouldn't be out of a packet. YABU neither should they be crisp outside, but then I'm fortunate to have an actual French baker in town who uses proper amounts of butter. None of the other,(even artisanal) local bakeries dare do this...!

Alessandra87 · 25/10/2021 20:35

They are better hot

hedgehogger1 · 25/10/2021 20:47

Lidl does lush croissants

2021namechanger · 25/10/2021 20:48

Worse than microwaved is when coffee shops (Costa) shove them in the panini heating thing. So they’re flat as a pancake
