in a kidney shaped bowl, along with the pics of her gorgeous new baby? I kept visualising it during supper.

Blu - Very big LOL. On that note I am off to bed. Hoping not to dream about the placenta monster.

How do we ask tech for a vomit face? I think it would be extremely useful.

I'm like that , I have no idea what posesses me, but after having a baby, I am so completely amazed and imersed in the wonder of it all that I foget that people do not necessarily want to see pictures of my me holding a blood covered baby with my norks exposed. If I had actually had a picture taken of the placenta, then I would have happily shown that to all and sundry too. I recover my sensibilities a few weeks later, and was more sensitive after dc 2 was born, but I think that some people do just forget what's 'normal' at this time. It all becomes very primal imo.

I asked to see mine each time. I was almost (almost) more amazed that my body knew how to grow this thing that would sustain my babies than the babies themselves!

I had a good look and was surprised by how slender the umbilical cords were each time, given the weight of the boys (both over 8lb) and the size of the placentas - each time the midwife said they were very big.

I also thought it was v interesting to see both sides of the placenta.

Snaf, I'd love to know more about what placentas tell you about the women Although a strawberry jam one sounds VILE! Mine were more like steak or liver, I guess. Solid, firm meat

I didn't take photos and I wouldn't have sent them to people had I though.

CloudAtlas · 10/12/2007 23:26

mine were like liver too! I don't think I would have sent them to someone either, but the way I am after having a baby, I couldn't be entirely sure

mumzyof2 · 11/12/2007 12:00

I dont care what you say, THAT is NOT something everybody wants to look at, me included! If you had an organ removed, you wouldnt send pictures of it to people!!

williamsmummy · 11/12/2007 13:08

with one of my babies, the midwives kept clucking over the placenta , apparently it was over 2lbs in weight, and they needed a bigger bowl.

At the time i couldnt give a monkeys, I was more concerned that my new born was too big for the plastic cot! sod the placenta!

camilla - I'd be more than up for burying it and planting a tree over it, just not showing everyone a photo of it. My large intestive is a pretty amazing miraculous thing too but I don't suppose anyone wants to admire it...

CloudAtlas · 11/12/2007 13:16

I'd love to see your large intestine OrmIrian

OrmIrian · 11/12/2007 13:17

Why thankyou! I think that must be one of the nicest things a complete stranger has ever said...

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 11/12/2007 13:34

Look on the bright side..she could have sent you a close up pic of her episiotomy...

pud1 · 11/12/2007 13:35

i am going to be sick

Swedes2Turnips1 · 11/12/2007 13:39

I am thinking of sending her a close up photo of my 2 year old's Mr whippy in the potty, together with some photos of her playing .
