on little changes that make a huge impact on your health and general wellbeing?

Mine are
To consume garlic and turmeric daily
Give up alcohol
Cycle daily
Get 7-7.5 hours sleep a night

The above things have made a huge change to my life - I feel so full of energy, healthier, and more positive since quitting alcohol especially. Cycling makes me feel calmer, stronger and more relaxed, and the sleep thing - if I get under 7 hours of sleep, I feel sleepy, and if I get 8 hours or more, I feel exhausted! Worse than if I had 6 hours or less.

Anyone else found little changes that have had a big affect on your daily life, your health, and how much energy you have each day?

I'm looking for more little changes to make because I can't believe I lived for so long making tiny mistakes that made me feel sluggish, sleepy, anxious, or generally rubbish every day.

Going to the gym regularly and walking more as it helps my mood as well as fitness/ movement
Taking a supplement almost daily
Don't usually drink so it's not an issue

Lightswitch123 · 24/10/2021 03:32

Agree with the exercise

So easy to fall out of the habit but when exercising regularly feel 10 years younger!

Aquamarine1029 · 24/10/2021 03:36

Making sure I drink enough water is crucial for me. As we get older, and I have definitely experienced this, the easier it is to get dehydrated. I have to carry water with me everywhere I go, and if I have a day where I fail to drink enough, I can really tell the following day. Dry eyes, headache, etc.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 24/10/2021 04:20

It’s ok to quit.
If something in your life is having a majorly negative impact then you don’t have to keep powering through.
The whole suck cost fallacy, a promotion isn’t going to make the job and company you hate any better. If the thought of going into work give you heart palpitations then it’s not the place for you.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 24/10/2021 04:41

I've given up on regular exercise (running, swimming, any kind of workout) because they totally exhaust me and make me too hungry - pretty much the opposite of what I want when already exhausted and trying to lose weight.

But for some inexplicable reason dancing agrees with me. it always has. it makes me energetic, it gives me a buzz that last for ages and it also reduces any cravings.
go figure!
It doesn't have to be anything structured, I just dance like I'm partying while tidying the kitchen & dining room and prepping dinner.

Atm I just search for 1-hour repeats of my favourite songs on YouTube, when I can be bothered I'll do a playlist, eventually.

Last week I was driving everyone to tears with hours of "Fortune Days" by The Glitch Mob. This week teens are driven mad by reggeaton - Bailando on a loop🤣
I'm learning Spanish so it's perfect in many ways!
makes me so happy

Also I decided I'm missing tap dancing too much (had a nasty injury 4 years ago so had to stop after only a year!), but classes are tricky, so I'm buying a tap mat for at home practice!

To sum it up: for me there's no better excercise than dancing and I highly recommend it. Whether it's "just dance" videos, salsa or "drunk uncle at a wedding" style fumbling about - moving is what matters!

This week Bailando is

Basicbitch40 · 24/10/2021 07:43

Drinking a pint of water everyday with a soluble vitamin tablet in it.

Siameasy · 24/10/2021 09:02

Intermittent fasting
Pursuing creative hobbies
Regular exercise
Getting a decent amount of sleep
Giving yourself permission to do nothing
Letting a lot of things go - applies to chores and also worries
Taking risks re: making friends eg being brave and inviting people round
Doing things for others that are low cost to me but high reward to them

CocoHeart · 24/10/2021 09:06

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba I love you style! You can't beat a boogie to Bailando 😁

Doing yoga Walking/hiking in beautiful places Meditation

OP how do you take the garlic and turmeric? In pill form or in their natural states? I read that swallowing a clove of garlic is medicinal but I take Allicin max instead when I can remember

Pandaly · 24/10/2021 09:17

Did you introduce the garlic and turmeric separately from each other and the other measures you have implemented? Just wondering how you know its the garlic making you feel better?

HikingforScenery · 24/10/2021 09:18

I also take a good women’s multivitamin and try to eat as little sugar as possible

Pandaly · 24/10/2021 09:18

And do you smell of garlic? (Not being rude just wondering)

Pandaly · 24/10/2021 09:18

For me it is taking vitamin D supplements.

Ooh I do IF too I’ve doing it for a little while now and forgot I lost the 1.5 stone extra weight I’d held on for years and had been struggling to shift

I gave up on running because I absolutely hated it. Dancing and yoga are my type of exercise as I enjoy them so much

Apparently it’s best to take vitamin D with vitamin k
Pandaly · 24/10/2021 09:24

Thanks! @HikingforScenery

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba

Thankyou for Bailando! I'm not very good at Spanish or dancing but that's inspired me to give both a bash whilst packing boxes today. Smile

Cut out heavily processed food.
Drink water.
Move more.
Prioritise yourself.

NavigatingAdolescence · 24/10/2021 09:33

And a massive yes to IF.

MusingOnStarlight · 24/10/2021 09:36

Water water water. Such a simple change but it makes a massive difference to me.

I could add lots more to the list but nothing works as fast as water for me.

Cantstopthewaves · 24/10/2021 09:38

Water and also decaf green tea. 2 cups a day.

PyjamaFan · 24/10/2021 09:48

Go for a walk every day, even if it's just for 15 minutes.
Go to bed early.
This is a big one for me - if I wake at 3am, which I often do, don't stress about it, but listen to an audio book or my meditation app. I nearly always fall asleep again. Also, waking in the small hours is normal!
Eat fruit and vegetables every day, limit processed food.
BUT don't beat myself up if from time to time I have a day when I don't want to cook. Beans on toast or tinned soup for dinner from time to time won't hurt.

I’m an owl. If I’ve been asleep and am awake at 3am without a flight to board, call an ambulance!
