Hi everyone

Over 50 and still not eligible according to the NHS booking system for a booster jab. My issue is the press / govt are saying that over 50s are eligible to book now and they are campaigning to increase the so called ''slow uptake' - however Ive been trying to book a booster jab for the past few weeks as an eligible person but to no avail. I feel what is in the press and what the govt is espousing is not what is happening in reality. Can I ask what mumsnetters experiences are of this please? thanks

@JaninaDuszejko

6 months ago was April, the only person I know who had her second jab back then was my 85yo MIL, she's already had her booster. I'd only had my first jab then and there are walk in clinics in my town so in December when it's been 6 months since my second jab I'll go and get my booster.
I'm 66 - had my second jab in April - so it's 6 months this weekend for me. My surgery say to wait to hear, but once the 189 days is up I will try the website.
daisypond · 22/10/2021 20:03

My parents - mid-80s - both had theirs this week. They were contacted. My DH - late 50s - can go to the drop-in centre next week with no need to book. He hasn’t been contacted.

julieca · 22/10/2021 20:03

@nether

The group falling eligible now are those who received their second jab in April, so first in Jan, which means those in the original groups 1-4. So that's NHS staff, care home staff and residents, CEV and over 70s

The most highly vulnerable immune suppressed should be getting a third primary jab any time 308 weeks after second primary (and the admin for that has been an utter shambles) and will get a booster (as 4th jab) in 6 months time

My DP is in group 4 and cant get one yet.
fishonabicycle · 22/10/2021 20:04

I think you have to had your second vaccine 180 days ago. Then you can log in and book it.

ozymandiusking · 22/10/2021 20:07

I had mine in the last week in April and received the invitation today so I have just booked. It's officially 6 months and one week after you second vaccination.
They give parameters, like disabled parking, accessible toilet, flat access, and various things. I tried to book a place with disable parking and accessible loo actually a normal loo would have been ok but that wasn't listed as an option. But would you believe it they didn't offer anywhere with both those requirements. That could have proved difficult for some people.

saraclara · 22/10/2021 20:08

I'm 65 and got my first jab the day after my age group became eligible, and my second as soon as I was able. My second jab was in the first week of May, so I still have a week or two before I become eligible for the booster.

Unless a 50 year old had conditions which pushed them further to the front of the queue last spring, they won't be eligible for a booster yet.

pigsDOfly · 22/10/2021 20:14

I'll be 73 in a few weeks and I won't be eligible for my booster until the beginning of November.

I wasn't contacted when I should have been when I was due for my second jab and only just managed to get an appointment within the ideal time frame as they were pretty heavily booked up.

Apparently, a lot of people in my age group in my area weren't contacted for their second jab when they should have been; pretty poor show all round really.

JoBrodie · 22/10/2021 20:14

I'm 51 and not eligible for the booster until Mon 9 Nov, having had my 2nd dose on 4 May (have to wait 190 days now*).

The Covid Booster booking page lets me enter my NHS number and date of birth but once I've done so I'm taken to this page in which the computer says no, and that I need to wait for my GP to text me (as happened for my first and second doses).

Earlier in the year (for Vaccinations 1 and 2) there were plenty of examples of vaccine centres encouraging people to just turn up without an appointment. I'm hoping that something similar might eventually happen with the booster, for anyone who falls in the recommended boostering age / vulnerability groups.

That said I've signed up to be a local Covid-19 booster 'marshall' to help people attending vaccination sites and have cheekily asked (waiting to hear back) if I can get my booster before 9 Nov so that I can start my shifts sooner, but I may have to be patient. I also have an entirely selfish reason for wanting my booster earlier as Tom Stoppard's play Leopoldstadt closes on 30 Oct and I really want to see that!

Whatever happens (even if I miss play and am not boostered until mid Nov) I'm quite looking forward to doing some marshalling shifts.

Jo

  • There's a new yellow notice on the booster booking page which says "Important: If you have not been contacted and it's been 6 months and 1 week (190 days) since your 2nd dose, please try to book your appointment using this service."
godmum56 · 22/10/2021 20:20

@Bookworm65

I'm 56, had my 2nd jab 8 months ago. Still being told I'm not eligible for a booster, even though I'm CV.
have you tried online?
ittakes2 · 22/10/2021 20:21

Check the date of your 2nd jab as you need to wait 6 months after that.

knittingaddict · 22/10/2021 20:28

I'm in my late 50's and know that it's not time for my booster yet. Even husband in his mid 60's isn't due yet. They will presumably do this like the did the original jabs - an age group at a time.

knittingaddict · 22/10/2021 20:29

My husband is due early November and mine in mid November, if that helps.

thegreywoman · 22/10/2021 20:32

@user1469292281

I've posted about this before. I'm late 50s, no health issues, not a key worker, based in Suffolk and was called up for my booster nearly 2 weeks ago.
I also live in Suffolk. Had my second vaccination 17th April so hope to hear soon about the booster.

My GP surgery site says not to contact them re boosters as they're not giving them. Some parts of Suffolk have walk in booster clinics for those eligible - but none near where I live.

I'm in my 80's, live alone, have a mobility problem, and no personal transport. It really is a patchwork and I'm getting a bit antsy! It's the not knowing...

ThinWomansBrain · 22/10/2021 20:34

I had that on the website a couple of days ago - but received a text telling me to book this afternoon

Outfoxedbyrabbits · 22/10/2021 20:41

All four of my eligible close family members (who are either front line NHS or over 70, and had their second jabs more than six months ago) have had their boosters.

roundtable · 22/10/2021 20:41

I'm in one of the vulnerable groups and my booster has been booked for 2 days post 6 months.

So hopefully most places are doing the same.

Roussette · 22/10/2021 20:44

My DH had his booster literally 6 months and 1 week from his 2nd jab.

I'm waiting

@thegreywoman
That sounds a bit wrong. Keep trying... seriously I would. I'm 2 weeks from my booster date and will keep on

DustyMaiden · 22/10/2021 20:46

I had mine today. There are walk in clinics for that vet 50s

ThePoisonousMushroom · 22/10/2021 20:49

My mum is 62 and has had hers. My dad in another area is 65 and hasn’t yet as it hasn’t been six months since his last one.

Anonymouseposter · 22/10/2021 20:52

I am 70. I had my second jab in early March. It's still saying I'm not eligible yet.

thegreywoman · 22/10/2021 20:53

Thanks Rousette My six months and a week seem to be up this Sunday so I plan to really start pushing things if I don't hear after that Grin
thegreywoman · 22/10/2021 20:55

^ Roussette sorry!

EggsellentSmithers · 22/10/2021 20:57

YABU but only because you’re taking (or assuming that others) what the media reports as gospel. It’s all shite!!!

Roussette · 22/10/2021 20:58

I did book it online for him @thegreywoman
I'm not sure it would've been so quick via the GP surgery!

Book here. Takes 1 minute. I booked mine yesterday for next Tuesday (sooner appointments available but I was busy). Easy as pie!
