..I had an experiment last year and didn't send any because I just could not be arsed. And NO-ONE noticed, I swear. I even said to people "did you get our card?" And they all said yes, thanks etc. The way I see it, I'm saving the rain forest...

PMSL. That's so funny. tee hee.

(YANBU!)

UnquietDad · 10/12/2007 10:06

Excellent idea. We did it one year and made a donation to the local hospital instead. Nobody minded, except my mother who pursed her lips and asked if we thought it was a good idea. But then again, she does that if we breathe.

I can see the point of sending cards to friends and distant relatives you see infrequently. But people you see every day at work? Madness.

Chardonnay1966 · 10/12/2007 10:10

I know! Must admit though, dp bought some hilarious cards from shop that have pic of grumpy man on front and the wording "Merry F**king Christmas." Q. Tempted to send a few of those to some people!!

i send e-mail cards now. but easier.
not sure if i can be arsed at all this year though...

mindalina · 10/12/2007 10:14

ROFL at people saying yes thank you for a card you didn't even buy

I don't because I'm hopeless, I always buy them, write them, address them, then leave them in the bottom of my bag until January. So nah, not remotely unreasonable.

UnquietDad · 10/12/2007 10:16

I love this kind of thing. Great antidote to the uber-organised parents I meet who had all their fecking cards done and sent by November 15th.

awayinNaeManger · 10/12/2007 10:17

UQD - you mean those people who are buying gifts for next christmas already?

OhGiveUsAPruniPudding · 10/12/2007 10:25

I didn't send any last year either! Meant to, but it just didn't happen.
In fact, a couple of weeks ago, I used my last Santa stamp that had been lurking in my wallet since last December......

Chardonnay1966 · 10/12/2007 10:27

What does ROFL stand for? Bit thick, can't work it out!

NEXT Christmas?? Do these people exist??
I've heard of getting them in the January sales, but that's ridiculous.

It means Rolling On Floor Laughing.

Chardonnay1966 · 10/12/2007 10:40

Thanks UnquietDad... I agree with cbcb, what's the difficulty in ringing people and talking to them? Christmas cards started in 19th century when they were probably the only means of keeping in touch with all your friends and relatives, so fair enough send 'em. But times have changed ain't they? We must start a revolution and stop this manic tradition. The Christmas Card Refuseniks Must Unite!

I for the first ever time have not bought any cards.

I just cant be bothered, cant afford the stamps either!!

Piles of cards in homes, and tbh, I truly dont think anyone would notice either!!

rosybud · 10/12/2007 10:50

I will join the revolution! when i casually mention that i may not be sending cards (def won't be for the third year running) this year i get horrified gasps and looks of pity/disgust. why do i need to send them to people i see every day?

rosybud · 10/12/2007 10:50

so YANBU at all.

bamzooki · 10/12/2007 10:54

I always intend to to this each year, then end up feeling guilted into it which leaves me scrambling around trying to send them on 21st Dec!
This year I think I will send to people I don't see often - relatives etc, and probably will include a short letter, but not to work mates, etc.

Dd has already done her cards for school friends which really irritates me - complete waste of time. She is 10, but ds who is 4.5 is now getting cards from his classmates. WHY??? He won't be sending any if I have anything to do with it!!! [scrooge emoticon]

fircone · 10/12/2007 10:55

Could you just send one or two to old people? (old people you know, that is!)

UnquietDad · 10/12/2007 10:55

Yes, especially when all they have is To[name] from [name] in sprawling handwriting.

Rosyrednosily · 10/12/2007 11:08

I always send christmas cards. I wrote mine last night...now I just have to post them. In the cards I apologise for not being in touch for ages/ let people know I haven't forgotten them even though it seems that I have/ let people know the name of my latest baby/take the opportunity to send a little warmth and festive cheer out into the world

I haven't sent 1 thats it

fircone · 10/12/2007 15:14

dh refuses to get involved with the cards. I found out last year that his Great Aunt Fan we have been sending a card to for years died in 1996. Now that was a waste of several stamps.

I had thought about not sending this year, also can't be arsed. I didn't get one from a freind last year, mentioned it & she said that she sends them alternate years & no-one notices. (Well, nearly no-one - I did. Don't what that says about me!)

Thank you. Glad I am not alone.

BibiJesus · 11/12/2007 10:30

We're only sending a card and a photo of the littlies to the older relatives we don't see often or at all any more. The rest are getting an email wishing them Merry Christmas and declaring our eco-friendly intentions of no cards and a donation to charity instead. They can like it or lump it.
