To ask how much your retirement pot will be

Off the back of some threads today, how much are you aiming to have in a retirement pot?

I’m going for 600k at today’s value which seems an insane amount but 20k per year for 30 years + state pension. What are you aiming for?

I put 2k per month in currently (inc employer contribution)

OP posts:

It's clear from OP's post that she was neither boasting nor intending to make people feel bad.

In the general scheme of things her pension isn't actually that big.

But as OP has learnt you can't really talk about money on here.

Personally OP I would try and increase the payments if at all feasible on your income. Don't know if you have kids but you could pay in more once they've left home?

wigglerose · 19/10/2021 19:49

It's not "prioritisation" if you don't have the money. I'm paid well and don't have 2k a month to pay in.

RobertsRadio · 19/10/2021 19:52

Oh very well done you Op 👏👏👏👏. Here's a ☕️ To go with all those biscuits.

RedJet22 · 19/10/2021 19:54

I won't be retiring. I've got £3k in one pension. £2k in another.
Another one says that I can expect 56p annually in retirement....I'm hoping Freddos don't get dearer than that, so once a year I can look forward to a Freddo at least.
I'm currently putting away £150 per month including employer contrubution. I might have to reduce that with the cost of living and NI increasing.

RedJet22 · 19/10/2021 19:55

Forgot to add I'm 50, so nit long left to find my million pound unicorn and retire.

Why are you showing off or lying? Clown 🤡
TertiusLydgate · 19/10/2021 19:56

Maybe get this moved OP to money matters?

It’s clearly upsetting people, although I doubt that was your intent. It’s a topic worth discussing.

flirtygirl · 19/10/2021 19:57

No pension and will not get one. Annuity rates are crap. Drawdown is taxed. So no point for me as no employer contribution that would have made it worth it.

Not that much spare income either. No way on earth would I budget to retire at 67 and live another 30 years. My death age is 75 - 77, past that most people get ill. And live is far too tiresome, now. Let alone then.

I'm looking forward to full state pension.

Lifeisaminestrone · 19/10/2021 19:58

I’m not responding to OP’s post but for those others worried about contributions- it is said 20 per cent of salary is a good base for pension contributions.

Of course that’s not possible for most but is a good starting position to benchmark yourself against.

Pension advice is generally crap and it bugs me no end!

What does Biscuit mean?!

ancientgran · 19/10/2021 19:58

DH has a police pension, I have a local govt pension plus both have full state pension. No idea about a pension pot, is that what our pensions are worth?

Oh please. This is Mumsnet, not "minimum wage net". Some people - a great many people - earn a lot more than the national average. Are they to stay quiet and meditate on their good fortune? Many on MN spend stupid money imo on tat, on interior decs, hobbies, etc. If the OP who is on a decent but not excessive salary wants to save for her future then good for her. She has a right to ask questions like every other poster.

Belindabelle · 19/10/2021 20:00

Although this post has not gone down well I do think this is something that people in general and women in particular should be thinking and talking about.

Money matters can be scary but I always think that knowledge is power so I would advise everyone to get a pension forecast. Especially those who are over 45.

I don't get why people get so upset. We have rich and we have poor. If you are poor like me, does that mean someone richer cannot discuss financial decisions?

If people get offended then maybe don't click on threads that discuss income, pensions or spending.

GrandDuchessRomanov · 19/10/2021 20:01

None of your bloody business.

Stop bragging.

Lachimolala · 19/10/2021 20:03

I don’t even earn 2k a month! I can only afford to put in £100 per month at the minute, I’m pretty worried about the future if I’m honest.

galacticpixels · 19/10/2021 20:06

I'm 29 and I don't know what my projected pot is. I put in 210 a month and work matches it. My priority at the moment is saving for a mortgage so can't realistically put in any more than that.

I agree. But it's pot luck on here. Sometimes a poster can get reasonable answers. Sometimes it brings the vipers out.

If someone else has a lot more money than me I don't take it as a personal affront. That's just the way of the world. I would still give them objective advice if I could.

Noodlewave · 19/10/2021 20:07

You sound like you have your head screwed on OP, I don't understand the biscuit multipacks you're getting. You should go on a FIRE forum like Mr money moustache for advice and opinions from people who are more similar to you.

MrsDonnelly · 19/10/2021 20:08

I think the OP is getting quite a hard time here. Admittedly, most people can only dream of saving so much into their pension but I don’t see this level of negativity directed at the countless threads about expensive school fees and million pound properties

maddiemookins16mum · 19/10/2021 20:09

I won’t have a pot to piss in let alone a retirement pot.
HTH

Squirrelblanket · 19/10/2021 20:10

Wow OP 😂.

Yes, your post is absolutely tone deaf and you come across as extremely ignorant. Or boastful. Whichever fits.

What's your AIBU?

Quite.

People post questions about £million+ properties and by and large they get sensible answers. Although you do have to wade through a lot of - 'you could get a mansion in Hull for that.'

Shuttheblinds · 19/10/2021 20:11

2K per month? Is that all? You will surely be a piss poor pensioner. Grin

I am saving around 17K per month I think, not totally sure as I don’t notice the small dent from my spending allowance each month. I will ask my PA to check and come back to you.

You have my sympathy OP, I don’t know how you will possibly manage when you retire.

bevelino · 19/10/2021 20:12

OP, you must know that you are being deeply insensitive.
