Aibu...to be raging

Friend who is also single mum but has moved further away from school asked this morning if DC in same class as mine could come here for 1.45hrs to get ready for Halloween disco while she sorts younger DC for her one.i said "yes of course"
School ends and my DC returns home with not one DC like expected but my friend and all 3 dc.
Ok I think,no big deal,I was doing a batch cook of chilli to freeze so I feed all 5 kids instead(my 2 her 3)
She takes youngest to her disco and comes back and we entertain the others, get 2 of them ready for disco etc
My youngest DC and her middle goes off to disco, her youngest returns and we pass the time for over another hour and half.
In all this time both our oldest secondary age dc have been sat together.By the time they leave 3 hours have past,I get busy tidying the house.
Within an hour of leaving she WhatsApp messaged to say her eldest had had a pcr test YESTERDAY and the result has just come back positive!!! WTF was she doing out of the house!!
My eldest DC is 12 days away from sitting her Maths GCSE and just spent 3hrs sat next to positive child.
I kept my cool with her when I rang to discuss, mentioned I was worried about my oldest because of GCSE but didn't lose it on her like I wanted as she suffers with her mh (as do i)
But I'm absolutely furious I don't know what to do with myself.
Sorry,just needed to vent somewhere.

Is be raging too op, it's really not rocket science to follow the rules, some people are selfish fuckers!

blueluce85 · 18/10/2021 21:11

I'm assuming the eldest was in contact with a positive case and didn't actually have symptoms (otherwise you'd have noticed) so was fully allowed out of the house whilst waiting for results

alwayslearning789 · 18/10/2021 21:20

She was selfish not to consider that your child is 12 days away from her GCSE's when she KNEW she had a potential Covid case on hand.

I would be upset too.

Selfish.

YodaiamsaidI · 18/10/2021 21:48

@blueluce85 actually no not allowed out while waiting for results

That’s not the current govt guidance. If you’re vaccinated/under 18 and asymptomatic you can carry on as normal whilst awaiting PCR test results.

blueluce85 · 18/10/2021 21:51

@yodaiamsaidl you don't if you are under 18 and just a contact without symptoms

I would be absolutely furious as well. That’s disgusting.

3luckystars · 18/10/2021 21:52

Had the child any symptoms?

I’m so sorry this happened, how absolutely awful for you and your family. I think your friendship is probably over.

Even besides what she did with the test, if someone stayed (uninvited) 3 hours in my house with 3 children, I would be very annoyed.

I hope your son is ok to sit his exam.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 18/10/2021 21:53

If you don't have any symptoms, then you don't have to self isolate while awaiting PCR results (just had this myself this weekend after a friend's kid tested positive).

BUT she should have let you know. Let alone turning up unannounced and expecting you to feed her and her brood. Cheeky fucker.

And I'd let her know it too. Rather than 'keeping your cool'.

You will now all need PCR tests too. As soon as possible. Even if you don't have any symptoms.

3luckystars · 18/10/2021 21:54

Sorry, it’s your daughter doing the exam, I hope she is ok to sit it.
Good luck.

Silverdorkinghen · 18/10/2021 21:55

If you are recommended to PCR test as a close contact of a positive case then the current rules are that you are allowed to carry on as normal whilst waiting results and in fact if you don’t send your child to school when waiting for PCR test, without them having symptoms or a positive LFT test then current guidelines would mean you would be fined. We were in this situation. I did cancel social plans because we were waiting for PCR results but that’s not the current guidelines and they did go to school as requested under current guidelines.

DysmalRadius · 18/10/2021 21:56

Everything about what she did was cheeky!

Silverdorkinghen · 18/10/2021 21:56

Crossed posts with lots of others. All the best for the GSCE exams.

3luckystars · 18/10/2021 21:57

It’s still wrong to go to someone’s house while waiting for results, and not tell them this information.

HikingforScenery · 18/10/2021 22:00

I thought the OP says this ‘friend’ received positive results yesterday but took infected child to OP’s house without telling her. OP, how you managed to keep your cool is beyond me. Your friend has been very selfish. Is there a reason why the child with covid couldn’t be left as home? Not that it’s an excuse
HikingforScenery · 18/10/2021 22:01

Oops excuse my post . It turns out I can’t read

YodaiamsaidI · 18/10/2021 22:07

@3luckystars friend said DC had had a temp over weekend but LFT was negative,I told her that yes that's why you don't do lfts if you have symptoms!!!

That’s awful.

Mischance · 18/10/2021 22:15

She is totally out of order here. She should have let you know that a PCR result was pending so that YOU could make your own decisions about potential risk. I would be livid!

AuntEater · 18/10/2021 22:16

She was extremely selfish. I hope your DC doesn't catch it.

TractorAndHeadphones · 18/10/2021 22:21

Literally everybody has MH issues these days that's no excuse for being a selfish twat.

TractorAndHeadphones · 18/10/2021 22:23

Also OP yes you absolutely should tell her off - she treated you terribly. MH or no MH it's the truth. Why would you continue to let yourself be walked all over (unless you know that she'd also feed you AND all your DC if you turned up unnanounced?)

Silverdorkinghen · 18/10/2021 22:25

If their child had a temperature then that is one of the three main symptoms and they should isolate whilst waiting for test results.

madroid · 18/10/2021 22:27

Common courtesy would be to at least tell you before arriving at your house, what ever the law says. What if you had someone vulnerable in your household?

I'd be fuming too OP
