Weird Facebook friend request

DH recently got a friend request from someone he knows through work - don’t want to be too specific but think of her as a client of his. He told me about it and accepted the friend request. No issues there. She does appear to interact much with anything he posts.
Now the weird bit … this weekend she sent me a friend request along with a message saying “hi”. I’ve never met her or even spoken to her before.

It seems weird!? I showed DH and he looked concerned and asked if I’m going to reply. I said “no” so he said “don’t blame you, can’t understand why she’s done that”.

Am I over reacting?

Could he be having an affair OP? You did say he looked concerned, maybe he is worried she will spill the beans.

MLM likely? It's one method of building up to an approach.

I once left my phone for 15 minutes and came back to a stalkery number of likes and loves- including on photos she couldn't see from his page/would've needed to click on mine for- from a colleague of DPs I'd never met and whom he only knew superficially and hadn't seen in over a year due to lockdown and moving in with me in another county. Freaked me the fuck out.
We checked her page, she was definitely an add allllll the people part time hun bot (DP had accepted her add to be polite since their company is small), probably revving up for a "omg hi hunnay" DM to me to flog tat. DP headed her off with a "hi how are you" which she replied to limply and hasn't spoken to him since. We think she realised she'd been spotted/looked like a weirdo.

sometimes if my mouse goes over someones name on facebook, its tried to send that person a FR by accident and ive had to quickly unrequest them when i realise, but I dont know if it was just a bug and been sorted because it happened quite a few times a while back.

Sending a friend request by accident is easy, but sending a message to someone who isn't on your friends list isn't a mistake, lol.

I've been friended once or twice by people I hadn't met in person but who are part of loose networks of people with a shared interest. It usually means they're soon either going to hit you up for some sort of sponsored event or try to interest you in their pyramid selling scheme. I think you were right not to accept.

QuicklyNowThen · 18/10/2021 18:42

He shouldn't have accepted the friend request in the first place completely unprofessional

UltimateBugKilla · 18/10/2021 18:47

Just reply..

If its mlm.. Block!

fitsandgiggles · 18/10/2021 19:06

Maybe she wants to swing with you both!

Seriously though it's strange and I'd want to reply to see why she messaged

Could have been matched by an algorithm.

Happened to me, couldn't believe it when a very famous person sent me a friend request, which I excitedly accepted, only to receive a waspish message asking me who I was and why I wanted to be their 'friend'. We have distant relatives in common.

I knew about the distant relationship but Facebook matches people who know people who know people who know people etc etc so you may get friend requests from a random who hasn't actually sent a request themselves.

Haven't rtft so sorry if this repeats others.

That's a bit odd of the famous person to send you a friend request then ask why you accepted it. Do they not understand social media Grin

The odd thing here is the Hi message which wouldn't be sent by an algorithm I don't think

Buffoonborisisatwat · 18/10/2021 19:40

No! My point is that famous person DIDN'T send me a friend request, Facebook algorithm fairies did but it looked as if famous person had sent it.

I'm pretty sure that's not a thing, it's so easy to accidentally click on the wrong place when friend suggestions come , I've done more than once and ended friends with people I don't know

There's no such thing as an algorithm fairy Smile

TableFlowerss · 18/10/2021 19:59

Just delete friend request and ignore….. get them often, random weirdos with no mutual friends and I just delete them.
