To think the flu jab this year is seriously strong?

Oof - got jabbed on Friday morning and still suffering now on Monday morning with a sore arm, sweating, swelling lymph nodes in that armpit etc - I’m starting to freak out that something went wrong with the injection? I know the pharmacist has done a million of them but I can’t help being freaked out as I usually sail through them with no effects at all. Having trouble sleeping with the soreness which isn’t even supposed to be that usual if you’re under 65 - anyone else been a bit knocked by this years jab. Please stop me freaking out!

None of those symptoms sounds too concerning. I had my flu jab a couple of weeks ago and had a very sore arm, luckily that was all. I know severally people who feel really rough in the way you describe.
I really dont think its anything to worry about.

madisonbridges · 18/10/2021 05:00

Sorry, I've been jabbed and so has my family, plus my 86yo mother. No after effects. But it's different for different people in different years. Last year my arm felt difficult to lift and I felt tired. Don't worry, I'm sure the effects will wear off soon.

Augusta1 · 18/10/2021 05:01

DH and I both had ours this week.Other than a sore arm, at the site of the injection for 24 hours, we've had no other reaction.

Incredibad · 18/10/2021 05:30

I think it’s the duration rather than the symptoms that’s concerning me if you see what I mean - it’s been nearly three days and I’m waking up in the night in pain with my arm and shoulder and sweating…feels like after I had the COVID jab almost.

Are you having pain during the day. Is it possible you're aggravating it by sleeping on it funnily?

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 18/10/2021 05:40

I had my jab Thursday and spent most of the weekend in bed! Very tired and with achey joints including the opposite shoulder from the jab arm. To me I do feel like I did with the Covid vaccine.

Incredibad · 18/10/2021 05:56

Madison - possibly I am also sleeping it weirdly as it’s not seeming so bad when I’m up and moving in the day

Stayingalive — yes! It’s a really similar feeling for me, the dreadful radiating ache, the swollen armpit, the random bouts of sweating :/

My arm aches for days, probably a week after my flu jab last year. It was the first time I had the jab and assumed it was normal for some people.

marmiteloversunite · 18/10/2021 06:03

DH and I both had the over 50's one and we both had horrible stomach aches and nausea the next day for about 36 hours. Anyone else have that? Could have been a bug but we had the jabs several weeks apart so it seems odd and a bit of a coincidence?

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 18/10/2021 06:07

Yabu
I'm 21 weeks pregnant and had it on thursday.
It contains no live strains and protects against 4 different straims of flu.
I had no symptoms beyond a mildly tender spot on my arm for 24 hours.

Peoples reaction are different.

My sister was giving me the whole "this years jab is giving people horrible side effects" line She couldnt point to any reliable news source on this but suggested i should reconsider because of the baby.

If you are vulnerable get it because the side effects are still not as bad as flu.

MistandMud · 18/10/2021 06:07

DD and DS both complained of stomach cramps the day after their jabs.

I didn’t even get the sore arm! Maybe mine didn’t work.

Medievalist · 18/10/2021 06:07

Had my flu jab a few weeks ago and didn't feel well for a few days - very tired and achey. DH had his at the same time and felt fine.

I was fine after last year's flu jab so was surprised to feel so ill this year.

Piapiano · 18/10/2021 06:08

This is how I always react to flu jabs. I was meant to have mine this weekend but the GP didn't get their vaccine delivery 🙄

isthismylifenow · 18/10/2021 06:09

We had ours earlier in the year (southern hemisphere) and it did knock a few people more than usual. I think it'd because it's a 4 strain one this year.

madisonbridges · 18/10/2021 06:10

@Piapiano. Book in at a chemist. I got mine at Boots and my sister got hers at an independent chemist. They seem more reliable than the GPs.

Londonnight · 18/10/2021 06:12

Had mine in Boots about 4 weeks ago. No side effects at all, not even a sore arm this time. My son had his as well, and he has had no side effects either.

daisychain01 · 18/10/2021 06:17

There's no such thing as a "strong" vaccine.

Take a couple of paracetamol. That's all you can do.

We had zero symptoms not even a sore arm so asking people whether they had symptoms is pointless because everyone reacts differently,

Badoukas · 18/10/2021 06:39

This is the 3rd year I've had the flu vaccine. Previously no side effects at all, but this year I had sore arm, fatigue and headaches.

GoodnightGrandma · 18/10/2021 06:42

We all had the jab at work with no side effects.
Also family members had it without any problems.

Fernhilde · 18/10/2021 07:22

I had a stronger reaction than previously. Isn't a strong reaction a good thing because it means you have a healthy immune system?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/10/2021 07:25

Me too, I had a sore arm and still feel a bit fluey (it was on Thursday) which I am not worried about but it is the first time I have ever reacted like that.

Now just have to hope it is the right strains!

Roussette · 18/10/2021 07:27

Had mine 9am Saturday. I always suffer a lot with jabs. (Wait till you have the pneumonia one at age 65, that was something else!)

Yesterday I ached all over, hot and cold, backache and an awful headache, no energy.

Today, feel absolutely fine! It always lasts a day or so with me but I'm just grateful to have it, and don't care about a sore arm, that goes with the territory.
Yes, it's still tender if I touch it, but that's it

VeryScary · 18/10/2021 07:28

Yup, had mine Thursday and felt exhausted and headachey all weekend. Still feeling rough this morning.

FuzzyPuffling · 18/10/2021 07:28

I got a sore arm this year, but no systemic reaction. Usually I get the opposite- arm fine, but fever, aches etc- so I'm quite pleased really.

Roussette · 18/10/2021 07:29

I got mine at Boots and my sister got hers at an independent chemist. They seem more reliable than the GPs

What does that mean???
