Constant heavy bleeding and monster clots...help!

RainbowBriteUk · 17/10/2021 13:23

I regularly have this. I have endometriosis and had fibroids which have recently been removed. The bleeding can go on for weeks. I can soak a thick night pad within 10 minutes.

I recently had a procedure at hospital which took out fibroids and they took a biopsy of my endometrium. I hoped this would stop the bleeding but it hasn't.

Even the Norethisterone which usually stops the bleeding isn't working. Apart from going to A&E, is there anything else I can do to stop the flow? I'm desperate.

If you're bleeding severely now, go to A&E. Please don't take medical advice from strangers on the internet. If you're bleeding badly right now see a medical professional. Otherwise, speak to a doctor as soon as you can.

Notimeforaname · 17/10/2021 13:29

Oh op I'm sorry ,that sounds awful. I'm not sure you can stop the blood flow? A+E is an option if you just cant function.

I'm sorry I have no real advice..hoping someone in the know will be along shortlyFlowers

Topseyt · 17/10/2021 13:30

Go to A & E.

Mountainpika · 17/10/2021 13:39

I had heavy bleeding after a hysterectomy. Passed out late one night - 999 call - taken to A&E and needed minor procedure to stop it. That was 5 years ago and I've been fine since.
Don't wait, get help and you'll be OK.

Cait1980 · 17/10/2021 14:15

I had this - at times there’s was zero point in me actually getting off the toilet to put a pad on. Palm sized clots - lovely. I really do feel for you as it’s not nice when you are like this.

I have endo and pcos but for me, the flooding and clot size was adenomyosis - womb tissue in the lining of my uterus which would then spasm shut and then open with predictably grim results.

Not helpful I know but again like you, drugs wouldn’t stop it and I went 14 weeks constantly like that at my worst and I ended up having to have a coil fitted as a stop gap measure to hold my periods. I appreciate that this isn’t something that everyone wants (I know I didn’t but for me it was the only option).

I think you are at seeking medical help stage. I had to keep on going back and back to say that nothing was helping - good luck x

TinaWeymouthsBass · 17/10/2021 14:48

If you're soaking through a thick pad in 10 minutes you need to go to A&E, this was me a few years ago and I had to have en emergency blood transfusion. Mirena coil saved me from hysterectomy and stopped my periods totally.

shouldistop · 17/10/2021 14:50

A&E if you're soaking through a pad that quickly. Thanks

HermioneAndRoger · 17/10/2021 14:51

Soaking through a heavy pad in less than an hour is an A&E job. Please go to hospital right now.

I have never forgotten a MN thread where the OP was in this position and on the advice of many MNers she went to A&E. She posted the next morning to thank everyone as this action had saved her life.

FleasInMyKnees · 17/10/2021 15:07

You cannot stop the bleeding yourself, you need to go to hospital, good luck and hope you get to feel better soon.

Tinitiny · 17/10/2021 15:17

Goodness OP, sounds awful.
Get yourself to A&E to be checked, I’d push for a scan. How recently was your ‘recent’ procedure? Could it be related (infection?)?

I have endo and the horrendous bleeding is now managed by taking the combined pill continuously. No breaks. No periods.
Mirena/implant made it worse and I ended up severely anaemia. Zoladex worked but is a temporary solution.
Hope you get it sorted soon x

RainbowBriteUk · 17/10/2021 15:35

Thank you for your replies. I'm going to take a norethisterone and have a sleep and see how it is in a bit. I'll head to A&E if it's the same.

I know it sounds ridiculous but I have something on at work next week with external clients and it's going to be awful if I had to rearrange.

I'm so sorry you went through the same. Is the combined pill the same as the mini pill?

Oh wow I'd love to read that thread. Can you remember the posters name?

My periods were also like this. It sounds crap phoning work to say you can’t come in because you have a period, they just don’t get that you can’t leave the house when you are flooding through tampons & pads so quickly!

Tranexamic acid did help for a while.
Mirena did not
POP did not
I was hugely relieved to have a hysterectomy.

If your procedure was very recent, they may be able to help if you phone the ward. I hope it eases for you soon.

Tinitiny · 17/10/2021 15:47

@RainbowBriteUk
No, minipil is the same (chemically) as implant and Mirena- I react the opposite to majority of women who get no periods at all. Mine get worse to the point of bleeding for weeks and collapsing from pain but works for lots of others.

My consultant, after my second laparoscopy and six months of Zoladex (which worked to stop periods but put me in artificial early menopause) suggested I take the combined pill (was Cilest, now is something else) without the normal seven-day break and that works for me.
Professional intervention is needed, are you under a consultant at all?
Is someone with you? X

Flowersintheattic2021 · 17/10/2021 16:03

How did you find zoladex, I was extremely anxious with it and had to discontinue after two months. I have seen discussions online where people say the same. Was it fine for you?

Gillyx · 17/10/2021 16:10

I have endometriosis too and I think if you’re soaking through pads so quickly, to go to a&e and get everything checked, just to be on the safe side as you’re losing a lot of blood. Also are you eating/drinking plenty, I find I faint easily when my periods are really heavy so I have to eat to counteract it. Hope you feel better soon it really is the worst.

Blackopal · 17/10/2021 16:18

Op go to A & E, I was bleeding like this and admitted with dangerous levels of anemia followed by four blood transfusions.

MyNameIsArthur · 17/10/2021 16:22

Have they checked what your platelet count Is?

HermioneAndRoger · 17/10/2021 16:25

@RainbowBriteUk

I've just had a little look - the thread had to be pulled as it got picked up by the press but it turned out that the OP had sepsis.

I really urge you to seek some help, OP. Don't go to sleep. If you were bleeding so heavily from any other part of your body you wouldn't hesitate.

Moonshine86 · 17/10/2021 16:27

Please go to A and E. like yourself I waited to see if the situation would improve and ended up fainting due to excessive blood loss and taken by ambulance to A and E. I also needed a blood transfusion. I’m sure you will be fine but don’t leave it until you feel so bad you have no choice.

caringcarer · 17/10/2021 16:28

I had similar on perimenopause. I used to use largest tampon possible, largest night time pad and change every 15-20 mins. My GP gave me some tablets. I think it was something called Transaneamic acid. Not sure on spelling. Speak to your GP. Try to lie down as slows flow.

Tinitiny · 17/10/2021 16:33

After the first month, the GP put me on very mild HRT to level off the hot flushes but it was ok aside from that. It stopped the horrendous bleeding and my anaemia got loads better so was worth it to be honest. I think with anything hormone-based, people react differently.
