Constant heavy bleeding and monster clots...help!

I regularly have this. I have endometriosis and had fibroids which have recently been removed. The bleeding can go on for weeks. I can soak a thick night pad within 10 minutes.

I recently had a procedure at hospital which took out fibroids and they took a biopsy of my endometrium. I hoped this would stop the bleeding but it hasn't.

Even the Norethisterone which usually stops the bleeding isn't working. Apart from going to A&E, is there anything else I can do to stop the flow? I'm desperate.

I'd use period cup 1st before a and e as you can measure it always looks loads in a pad.

RainbowBriteUk · 17/10/2021 17:23

@Flowersintheattic2021 I don't have one unfortunately.

I got mine of amazon. Its intiminia lilly cup. In 2 sizes for women who have had kids and women who haven't. Best thing ever best 20 quid u ever spent. Plus you can measure and then accurately tell doctor what you bleed

I have really heavy periods where I have to sleep on a towel on the bed at night. The doctor found out I was anaemic and asked about my periods, she put me on Tranexamic acid and it has made a massive difference to my life. I just take 2 tablets every 4 hours when it is at its heaviest. Hope this helps x

How are you @RainbowBriteUk?
Any better?

tabithatwitch · 20/10/2021 01:03

Sorry to hear you’re having such a horrid time. I too suffer from very heavy periods (towel on the bed, large clots, super duper extra huge tampons plus giant pads first two/three days). I feel your pain as it’s exhausting and a huge inconvenience - I once couldn’t go to work until I’d picked up my Tranexamic prescription from the pharmacist which i had forgotten to do the previous day! Anyway in desperation and because I hate the Tranexamic acid I came across an article and research on ginger powder. I’ve tried it this cycle (half a teaspoon from first day) and it’s made a huge difference in flow - the first 24 hrs was quite heavy but no big clots and the the subsequent days have been much much lighter. Worth a shot?

Sorry to jump on your thread pp, but @tabithatwitch Ginger powder? Like ginger powder you cook with? What research did you find useful? Thanks

Here is the link to the trial I read about. Yes, I just got some organic ginger powder online. This is only the first cycle I've used it with however it has made a significant difference. Fingers crossed!

You need to speak to your GP, demand, don't ask for a choose & book referral to gynaecology at your nearest private hospital. You can't go on like this, if you are sure you don't want any more children, it would be a good idea to discuss if a hysterectomy would be the right decision for you. Like you I had endometriosis & suffered heavy, sometimes never ending periods & after a laparoscopy took the decision to opt for a keyhole hysterectomy, I was only in hospital for 16 hours, went to theatre early evening & was on my way home by 9.00am next morning, I was out & about 3 days later & back on the school run withina week. It was the best decision I have ever made.

Go to A&E. Mine was so bad we had to call an ambulance in the end, the bathroom and I looked like someone had been murdered . The Gyne ward were brilliant but wanted immediately to see the contents of the pad to see what the blood looked like, I'm not sure why. They put me on Progesterone to control it. I'm peri-menopause.

So sorry you're going through this. I am going through the same. I've bled everyday for over a year now. Started August 1st 2020 with massive clots like you. I bled so heavy I was fainting and bleeding through everything in 20 minutes. I started nortinestone on double dose and it stopped for a couple of days and now the bleeding is less, I bled lightly everyday and I have to extremely bleeding periodically if I have sex, if I do too much, or just randomly. I can't do my job (I'm self employed), and I feel miserable, sore and exhausted constantly. So I totally get it.

I did go to A&E once, I hope they treat you better than they did me.

I'm waiting for an ablation, been waiting a year now, no diagnosis, just told to wait. Really hope you get answers and help.

@Mifacagare gynae wards ask to assess your pad and bleeding because unfortunately there are a lot of ladies who get sent in with what they describe as 'heavy bleeding' which from a gynae point of view simply isn't. They need to assess the actual amount being lost
Obviously flooding through pads every 10 mins and associated dizziness/weakness are red flags but I have seen multiple threads where women talk about changing a pad an hour and considering that a heavy bleeding worthy of emergency attention.
That is not something an emergency gynae unit would deal with, you needs ongoing outpatient follow up, however in your case then something more urgent is required, a Minera IUS would prob be your best bet, good luck

thankyou @Greenqueen40 for explaining. Helpful advice too.
