To think that the trend for buccal fat removal is worse than filler

I understand the immense pressure on young women in particular to look beautiful. It is pervasive and contributes to poor emotional health. However the never ending additions to treatments just make me feel sooo uncomfortable and sad.
The latest is buccal fat removal which involves sucking out the fat from inside a young women's face and with zygoma fillers they can create the illusion of high cheek bones.
Something so barbaric about it and I can see it everywhere. When will this shit end. How as women can we draw a line under more and more absurd treatments to make us "beautiful". It just feels never-ending...

It's so risky. Even Linda Evangelista - who you think would have the best treatment money can buy - now describes herself as disfigured and deformed after having the cosmetic treatment 'cool sculpting'.

znaika · 16/10/2021 14:48

@spotcheck. Read subsequent post. I think there is a world of difference in the ability of a 40 something aging woman and a late teen in terms of their ability to resist thr pressure

Isn’t this really ageing and madness? I’m in my 40s and my ‘baby face’ has served me well. It seems both brutal, and on a purely cosmetic level a nutty thing to do.

Tragic that she thought she needed it.
AndTime · 16/10/2021 15:36

My cheeks naturally look like that and I hate it, I look gaunt easily (just my face my body is plump) and I feel like it ages me a lot. I have been wondering how to deal with my sunken cheeks, who would have guessed I was ahead of the trend!
Never heard of this until this thread.

RickJames · 16/10/2021 15:43

They'll regret that as they age. Buccal fat reduces with age and can make people look drawn and gaunt.

I have stupid amounts of buccal fat - even when I've been painfully thin I've still got a big pumpkin face but now I'm older I appreciate it.

So glad we never had these pressures when we were young.

I don’t agree, I think if you’re the type of person to want to have it done, you’re likely always going to be that person, it’s not going to change as you hit forty.

It’s really not common here in the Uk. I can’t speak for other countries but it’s a shame it’s common in Russia.

znaika · 16/10/2021 16:13

Russia was ahead of the curve when it came to lip fillers (mostly dodgy practitioners) , I am sure it is only a matter of time before it takes off in London. I do think that younger women are more susceptible, they are more likely to consume the media for a start.

My main issue is that this is never-ending, there is another treatment about to kick off, then another, then another. All of the things that women didn't know they had wrong with them before the fix was advertised to them.

I had buccal fat removal a few months ago. I’m in my late 20s and had a persistent chubby face no matter what weight. It’s been great recovery and procedure for me as it made my face look slimmer without looking gaunt. Obvs I don’t recommend this procedure for young people and super slim people as it will be very ageing.

Mrsjayy · 16/10/2021 17:12

I agree with you it's the constant here's something else that "you" need to do to yourself I googled it and Chrissy Tieghan Model/ John legends wife has had it done she hashtagged the surgeon so probably had the procedure free . I will never understand the extent of surgery and procedures Instagram or media insist women need!

Marelle · 16/10/2021 17:17

You lose buccal fat anyway as you get older, and you lose it if you diet. People having this surgery want that “slim face” look without having to lose weight. If they just stopped eating their faces would go like that anyway.

berlinbabylon · 16/10/2021 17:22

It's all yuck. And you don't look younger if you have work done, you just look like you have had work done.

Plastic surgery is anything but barbaric, would you really tell people like Katie Piper that her plastic surgery is barbaric

Of course not. But she, very sadly, needed it thanks to the arsehole who disfigured her and her medical team have done amazing things for her over the years (no doubt at the cost of huge amounts of pain for her - I can't even begin to imagine what she's been put through). These young women (and older women too) look perfectly fine and put themselves at risk of pain and disfigurement.

Siameasy · 16/10/2021 17:27

I find it all sad although I had to Google this particular procedure. It’s all so vain and shallow.
With older women celebs it tends to be beautiful women who are struggling with losing their looks. Honestly, it’s better to be average.
I can’t bear the bloody duck lips either

Twelveshoes · 16/10/2021 17:29

It is quite disturbing and sinister. People are naturally drawn into empathy when they babyish features like fat pads in the human face. Why are we having a trend that puts women’s faces into the uncanny valley?

Mrsjayy · 16/10/2021 17:36

I know it's tiny part of it but I put the blame on filters they alter/enhance faces so much that I believe young people are processing them as how they want to look.

Briony123 · 16/10/2021 17:37

Do they donate their cheek fat to Tom Cruise?

shallIswim · 16/10/2021 17:40

Haven't rttt but young women in say their late teens early twenties might have mums who are no strangers to Botox and fillers... therefore setting an example.
Honestly (says this gently worn 55 year old) the best thing we can do is be happy on our own skins our daughters stand no chance of we're not.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 16/10/2021 17:42

Goodness knows what some of these women will look like when they’re old! Pictures of the unfortunate ‘Bride of Wildenstein’ were enough to put me off for good!

Siameasy · 16/10/2021 17:46

I’d rather spend the money on improving my self esteem because these treatments have a habit of spiralling. Plus it’s like a badge saying “I’m insecure” and makes you a target for someone unscrupulous

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 16/10/2021 17:46

@MistyGreenAndBlue

I just googled this. I can't see any difference between the before and after on most of them. Seems utterly pointless.
Me too! Glad I'm not the only one.
KT727 · 16/10/2021 17:47

I think we need to get to a place where a woman isn't defined by her beauty but I'm not sure how!

Siameasy · 16/10/2021 17:48

I also couldn’t see much difference and I’m sorry, Chrissy bloody Tiegan isn’t attractive she looks odd

Wroxie · 16/10/2021 18:00

I feel like there was a bit of a holiday from all this in the early 2000s where female celebrities looked natural (if a little too thin and with a little too much glitter on their faces) but then the Kardashians hit and it all went insane. I went to lunch today at a fancy brunch type place and more women in their 20s-30s had fake lips, eyelashes, and nails than didn't. They probably had other work done as well that just isn't as obvious.

I looked at Paris Hilton recently and while she probably ate nothing but lettuce and air, and wore blue contacts, she had a natural nose with a hook on the end and small lips and she was gorgeous. She wouldn't get a look in today.

Simonjt · 16/10/2021 18:12

Every person who has plastic surgery need it.
RickJames · 16/10/2021 18:45

@Wroxie

Agreed. Paris never got her nose or her wonky eye changed, never got a boob job or a bum implant. Now in her 40's she looks elegant and dignified and not old at all. Compared to her peers she looks good.

I think she must have spent all her vast beauty budget on facials and non-invasives. Obviously she's been pampered to death but its clear that she hasn't has anything invasive and she looks wonderful. Her sister Nicky also has that classy look. Oh to be rich, lol!
