AIBU - clothes are either clean or dirty

DP is currently decorating a chair with multiple items of clothing.

He says they're airing out and are neither fit to hang up or be washed again.

IMO clothes are either clean enough to hang up and wear or need to be washed. Where is the grey area??

He says I'm being ridiculous and it's totally normal.

AIBU?

@legofootcasualty

OK so this might be a thing...

But then there should be a proper place for the in-between clothes to go, not just creating a permanent mess!

A separate hanging rail or something

What's wrong with a chair? Better than the floor
GoodnightGrandma · 15/10/2021 21:17

Yep, it’s the clothes chair.

CocaColaTruck1 · 15/10/2021 21:18

I have a clothes chair too 😂
It's just jeans for me really that I wear multiple times, tops are washed after one wear.

Prettyconfused · 15/10/2021 21:19

You’d cry at my floor wardrobe I’m afraid.

HarrisMcCoo · 15/10/2021 21:21

My teenager will wear his jeans and t shirt again and again for a few days. Often only in them a few hours after school. I am proud he knows to be resourceful and doesn't just chuck stuff in laundry after one wear. Unnecessary.

Fridafever · 15/10/2021 21:22

Why can’t they go back in the wardrobe if they’re clean enough to wear?

BestZebbie · 15/10/2021 21:24

Why would adults have chairs in bedrooms at all if not for their part worn clothes? It’s not like you need somewhere to sit to read a bedtime story, and presumably you’d also have a sofa and a bed available to sit on.

TheOpportuneMoment · 15/10/2021 21:25

I'm with your DH on this one.

PetrifriedPumpkin · 15/10/2021 21:25

I have a coat stand in the corner of my room for these clothes. If they've been worn outside, I won't put them back with my clean clothes. DH uses the floor but he only ever has one pair of trousers and maybe a jumper that he will wear on consecutive days. I'm more likely to have a few items that I wear a day or two later.

dementedpixie · 15/10/2021 21:25

@Fridafever

Why can’t they go back in the wardrobe if they’re clean enough to wear?
I dont want half worn clothes back in the wardrobe. My jeans don't live in the wardrobe anyway
SuddenArborealStop · 15/10/2021 21:27

If they go back into the wardrobe you lose track of how often they've been previously worn ... I have a second clothes basket for this but things still end up on the floor if I'm not ready to commit it to the extra basket yet Grin

BestZebbie · 15/10/2021 21:27

@Fridafever

Why can’t they go back in the wardrobe if they’re clean enough to wear?
Because they can’t be worn infinitely - if you keep putting stuff back you’ll end up with lots of slightly worn things to choose from rather than fresh (and moths). Use one thing up fully, then start the next - we are usually only talking about a couple more days for some outer garments, not weeks.
Calmdown14 · 15/10/2021 21:27

I have a 'half dirty' box in the bottom of the wardrobe for hoodies, jeans etc.
Saves the chairdrobe and the don't touch clean things

StormyCornishSeas · 15/10/2021 21:28

I'm afraid I'm #DP. What else are you supposed to do with clothes which you wore for a bit but then changed into something else. Ie clothes you wear after getting home from work especially this time of year when the weather is so changeable

Mymapuddlington · 15/10/2021 21:30

So say you wear your jeans 4 times. You put them back in the cupboard how do you know if you’ve worn them once or twice or whatever?

Carboncheque · 15/10/2021 21:33

www.heals.com/brunel-lean-mirror-with-hanging-space-1.html

I’m buying one of these to free up my clothes chair.

sorryforswearing · 15/10/2021 21:33

I used to have an exercise bike in my bedroom
. It was perfect for hanging worn but still clean clothes on. I still miss it but not for exercising.

eurochick · 15/10/2021 21:34

IKEA actually sell a thing especially for this. My friend has one.

Purpleberet · 15/10/2021 21:35

I get your annoyance, I also hate the not clean but not dirty clothes dumping chair. But it’s a necessity. I used to have one too. You don’t want it mixed back in with the clean stuff and then you lose track of what’s only got one more wear in it.
Now I have a walk in wardrobe so one rail is specifically for these clothes Grin maybe you could just have a divider at the end of the rail, or a section of a drawer to put those clothes

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 15/10/2021 21:38

I use the radiator (not switched on). DH has a floordrobe.

CovidDoesNotExistDuh · 15/10/2021 21:39

I chairdrobe. I tend to wear things a few times but It's normally consecutive days so I chair them overnight. Outer layers that don't touch my skin directly go back in the wardrobe.

DuvetDayIsEveryDay · 15/10/2021 21:39

I hang my worn but not dirty clothes on a coat hanger up on the curtain rail of my office.

QueenSue · 15/10/2021 21:40

I use a hanging rail for items that have been worn but aren't dirty. Then I can also steam them easily if they got wrinkles.

Eealoty · 15/10/2021 21:40

Worn once and not dirty go on the chair to be worn once again when the opportunity arises (could be weeks 😁). It keeps the drawers and wardrobes properly clean!

QueenSue · 15/10/2021 21:41

It looks like this.
