To think celebrities seriously need to get over themselves?

Just got an email from a recruitment agency I signed up to years ago, they were listing a load of jobs they had available and one of them was:

"£60k - Nanny for Celebrity family - required qualified nanny with experience of young children and newborn, ideally has experience with celebrities so doesn't get starstruck"

I mean seriously, puke. Get over yourselves!

I wouldn’t actually be surprised if that was Katherine Ryan…

I’ve worked as a VIP nanny and a stint as a celeb nanny while they filmed on location. Huge, huge star- I never even clapped eyes on them 😆

NatriumChloride · 15/10/2021 11:56

Agree OP, puke advert! And a z-lister that most of us have never heard of.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 15/10/2021 12:00

Hmm. £60,000 is a very decent salary for a Nanny isn't it? I live round the corner, dying to know who this special celeb is.

Bloodypunkrockers · 15/10/2021 12:01

@abricotine

Who is Catherine Ryan 🤣
She's on EVERYTHING

Meant to be a comedian.

WheelieBinPrincess · 15/10/2021 12:08

@Chicchicchicchiclana it’s the going rate for VIP or celebrity jobs in the U.K. where the hours might be all over the place and very long, and you’re expected to switch around days off or cancel plans at short notice etc.

In my ‘normal’ current nanny job with more regular conditions I’m on £45,000.

Keke94LND · 15/10/2021 12:22

@WorraLiberty

The email was from the recruitment agency though, not the celebrities themselves? Confused
Yes but employers will brief the agency on what they require and what they want to be specified on the advert

Christ, how up your own arse can you get.

It will be someone who thinks they are more special than they are.

My dad used to do a job where he escorted celebrities and Royals for 40 odd years.

In general, the more famous they were, the lovelier and down to earth they were (with some serious exceptions, obvi). He always said that the ones no one really recognised were the absolute bastards who treated him and his co workers with disdain and through they were Gods gift to the world.

BananaPB · 15/10/2021 12:33

I bet that this celebrity is nothing more than a minor reality star that only a small minority of people would know. 🤔

upinaballoon · 15/10/2021 12:40

@Karwomannghia

To be fair they can’t be doing too badly if they can afford a £60k nanny! Just trying to think of celebrity families with newborn and young children… Stacey Solomon?
Who's Stacey Solomon?
Dahliadelight · 15/10/2021 12:40

Catherine Ryan lives in Crouch End. Or she did.

EdgeOfTheSky · 15/10/2021 12:41

Except that it could be the agency that stipulated this.

I have worked with ‘celebrities’ and one of DC’s friends has been nannying for a VERY prominent musician and family.

They do need a few extra qualities on the person spec. And extreme discretion, including never saying who they work for. A child’s privacy and safeguarding could be at stake.

“Oooh that’s so and so in the park with x child, must be celeb’s child because that’s who she works for, how very Insta-worthy”.

No disclosing the address etc.

The number of threads on here that are basically ‘ooh, tell us everything you know about a famous person you met for 5 mins’ tells you what part of the problem is.

And people on here trying to work out who…. Why?

Gonnagetgoing · 15/10/2021 12:43

@Bloodypunkrockers - Catherine Ryan is an annoying PITA. And not that funny in my opinion. Saw her on an advert for Wowcher the other day.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 15/10/2021 12:51

I think it was Sir Terry Pratchett (back in the days when he was just "our Tel" and didn't have a handle on his name) who complained sadly that he couldn't even go to the loo at some conventions without being followed there by fans wanting his autograph. But there are a number of other people who might have made the same complaint.

Whilst I understand all that, why does the ad call them a celebrity then? Could just say UHNWI which doesn't mean they are necessarily a celebrity, ofcourse if you say celebrity people are gonna think 'hmm I wonder who'

Keke94LND · 15/10/2021 12:58

Interestingly I've actually just gone on the recruitment website to find the ad and the ad actually doesn't say celebrity, it says VIP family (still a gross term IMO) it's also 50 hours per week and the minimum allowed holiday allowance, fuck that for toffee .. although maybe that attitude is why I'll never earn £60k 🤣

OP posts:
WheelieBinPrincess · 15/10/2021 12:59

@Keke94LND I work 50 hours a week in my normal nanny job and still only get minimum holiday! Standard nanny contract/expectation.

I guess this is why I'm not a nanny 😬

MarthaJonesPhone · 15/10/2021 13:04

Its not Catherine Ryan she lives in Barnet.

DrWhoNowww · 15/10/2021 13:04

I would imagine minimum holiday allowance would be pretty normal for nannies?

You wouldn’t want the nanny to have more annual leave than the parents because who would look after children?

Although maybe they’d get a temp nanny and I’m being naive Grin

WheelieBinPrincess · 15/10/2021 13:07

@DrWhoNowww no that’s exactly it! No such day provision either. Getting my 28 days is like getting blood out of a stone to be honest.

WheelieBinPrincess · 15/10/2021 13:07

*sick day provision

Gemma2019 · 15/10/2021 13:10

Could be Andy Murray - he lives in SW19 and has a fairly new baby

Keke94LND · 15/10/2021 13:13

One of the job requirements is to 'manage the five year olds social calendar' 🤣🤣 sorry I know it has to be done but to put it like that did make me laugh.. I bet their social calendar is more extensive than mine 🤣

OP posts:
WheelieBinPrincess · 15/10/2021 13:14

I don’t think Andy Murray would draw attention to his celeb status at all!

EdgeOfTheSky · 15/10/2021 13:15

SE19 is a big and varied area and I can assure you that there are significantly famous/ VIP / notable families who live there.

But due to minding their privacy they are not having their job adverts scrutinised and criticised and being subject to all sorts of speculation and slagging off by MNers,
