Not to pay for last night's hotel

I am away on business- an important event today and I need to be thinking straight.
I arrived last night and have spent quite a lot of money on a "boutique" hotel.
The room was dreadful- tiny and not clean but I was willing to let that pass for now (not great in a pandemic though!)
I had to go down to reception at 1am and ask to move rooms as it was noisy as there was some sort of extractor fan from a ?kitchen was running outside the room and even with all the windows shut and a pillow over my head and iPods in I could still hear it!
They moved me to another room (I had to pack up my stuff and get back into bed at 2am). That room had a fire exit light which flashed brightly all night. So still no sleep rant is less there fault but I can't sleep if there is light.
There has been NO apology at any time.
So I'm tired, big day today and I supposed to stay here tonight too.
So do I:

  1. Complain again
  2. Leave and if so should I pay for last night????

@HollowTalk

Haven't you paid already though? Did they really let you stay in the room without paying?
I don't think I've ever paid for a hotel stay until I'm checking out. I reserve the room using a credit card but I certainly don't pay for it until the end of the stay. I can't understand why you would pay upfront?

Are you not from the UK? Tiny rooms are pretty commonplace in all major European cities. It’s impossible for us to know from what you’ve said whether the price they were charging is fair for what you got. I can’t help but think it’s the work stuff hanging over you that was preventing you sleeping though. Sleeping in an unknown place away from home comforts can be hard, especially if it’s not luxury and it’s work-related. Fans, LEDs etc can be irritating but I have had to put up with them soooo many times in hotels. If you’re a sensitive sleeper then you need to pack accordingly when you travel (decent eye mask, ear plugs etc). From what you’ve said, I don’t think withholding payment is justifiable, especially if it’s a ‘boutique’ place.

I’m really sorry about your necklace, that must be devastating, I hope the person who has it does the right thing and you get it back.

@HikingforScenery well according to OP people obviously don’t steal in the UK in her world but since the pandemic broke out here I’ve definitely heard of more petty crime and thefts.

ShuddaBeenMe · 15/10/2021 21:52

Oh that's awful. I would be creating a huge fuss. Can you report the theft?

martingrowler · 15/10/2021 22:19

I'm just gobsmacked that people are going away for work and paying for their own hotels! I feel extremely cosseted having only worked private sector I can't believe this is a thing.

Skysblue Your post is so offensive by naming certain professions who are most likely to steal from customers and service users, I hope your miserable and derogatory statement comes right back you the next time you or a family member use a life saving blue light service 🤬🤬

Honestly the replies on here are so depressing.

You can't expect a decent clean room. Without flashing lights or fans.

You can't expect something left to be returned. In fact EXPECT a necklace to be stolen.

God alive. Thankfully my experiences are so different.

ThesecondLEM · 16/10/2021 08:26

Skyblue what a ridiculous post Hmm

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 16/10/2021 08:44

It’s not up to you whether you pay or not, however instead of asking us, advise the hotel of your troubles and ask if you could have a discount etc...

RachelGreep87 · 16/10/2021 17:19

They may have taken the necklace as payment for the room

Tulips15 · 16/10/2021 17:30

I wouldnt pay full- not for the first night atleast.
Report the theft.
Make an official complaint to managet

CatOfTheLand · 28/10/2021 11:42

What was the result @PlateSpinnerExtraordinaire ? Did you get your necklace back?

takenforgrantednana · 28/10/2021 12:18

@PlateSpinnerExtraordinaire

No I am!
ok well you did sort of use the room even if it was only for half the night, so on that basis i would say to them either find anther room, or book yourself into somewhere else and only pay for the half the night you used the room, but before you do make the offer of payment make sure that there is a bed somewhere else first
