Last week I went to the doctors - my right breast has a big mass in it that has appeared in the previous week.
He checked my liver, lymph nodes, so I know what he's thinking, and referred me to the breast clinic under the 14 day rule. Except it isn't 14 days, it's over three weeks before you can be seen. The gp can do nothing to speed things up apparently.
I thought I need to pay for a private mammogram, it's £400. I'm desperate - imagining the worst constantly.
Managed to get a referral sent by the gp to the private hospital, only to be told they're breast clinic has been cancelled for the next three weeks.
Aibu to go to a&e to get some medical advice or wait? The mass is getting bigger and painful each day.
What would you do? Thanks in advance.

I was referred a couple of years ago and the clinic were excellent at explaining what was going to happen / what tests they do. Mine turned out to be nothing to worry about.
I hope all goes well for you tomorrow too.

Best wishes for your appointment tomorrow, OP!
Unbelievable that this is the situation with NHS queues.

LightTripper · 14/10/2021 22:39

As a PP also said it could be a fibroadenoma. They aren't dangerous but you can get them removed if they are uncomfortable/painful. I was lucky mine was fairly small so I left it (and it eventually disappeared when I was BF my second child), but they can be large and they can grow very fast. Just in case it's reassuring to know there are a few non-dangerous options that it could be. Fingers crossed for tomorrow morning.

Best of luck tomorrow, @needabitof. I'll be sending good wishes with you, that it is figured out and dealt with posthaste.

I had a largeish breast lump that was very scary (big when I found it - size of a golf ball) but turned out to be a rare but benign tumor. The relief when you know it is benign is immense. I'm crossing my fingers for you to get that relief tomorrow or soon thereafter Flowers

Battleofwhocouldcareless · 14/10/2021 22:48

All the best with your appointment tomorrow.

CantThinkOfaUserNameAgain · 14/10/2021 22:55

Good luck hope it all goes well and it is «just» a cyst or blocked gland.

ElvisPresleyHadABaby · 14/10/2021 22:56

Good luck OP, am hoping for good news.

Chocolateflapjack01 · 14/10/2021 22:59

Best of luck for tomorrow OP. I’ve been to the breast clinic twice now for lumps in both breasts, had to wait 2 weeks each time and the waiting is awful, but they’re SO good and thorough. Mine have been cysts both times, turns out I’m prone to them.

Honestly I’m sure it’ll just be a cyst or something, mine were tender/ painful to touch, not hot though. The more I pressed them to feel them the more painful them and the rest of the breast became.

Best of luck tomorrow.

Glassofshloer · 14/10/2021 23:02

All the best for tomorrow OP.

My sister had a fibroadenoma which grew larger than a golfball - it didn’t hurt but was ENORMOUS and very hard. She had it surgically removed a few months ago as it was catching on clothes etc. Maybe you have something similar.

Hope you get some sleep tonight Flowers
