to ask how best to report someone for no MOT?

I have some unpleasant neighbours in my street - not immediately next door but close proximity. They tick most of the poor neighbour boxes - loud, large parties (earlier this year they had about 50-60 mid teens round who were all drinking, dropping bottles and cans all over the street etc), their garden is full of rubbish, broken furniture etc, they let their dogs roam the streets - and kids for that matter, they do some small time drug dealing etc. You get the idea.

They have a car which is often illegally parked, driven by one of the elder kids who is under 17, doesn't look or sound particularly roadworthy - out of interest I looked it up today as I saw it backfiring down the street (driven by one of the adults) - and the MOT ran out in mid August.

On the gov.uk website it said to report to our local police (Met) via 101, I tried calling but gave up after about 10 mins on hold; looked online but the form seems to require me to give name and address which I'm not keen on in case there's any way they find out it was me - they're the sort of people to key your car or worse. Is there a way to report without this? - do I just need to go on hold to 101? The online form also seemed more geared to reporting a 'someone's broken into my house' crime rather than this kind of thing?

If anyone has reported for this it would be most helpful, thanks

@IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 what a ridiculous post. So you'd like to live near twats like this would you? Or are you the sort of person who also doesn't bother to MOT their car, let's their dog shit all over the street and has a front garden like Steptoes yard?

No, I would not like to live near twats like that, but I would have the courage to face up to not hiding behind remaining anonymous in reporting such behaviour.
You either stand up for what you believe is the right thing to do or you shut up.

You can report anonymously on .gov website if untaxed

@Confiscatedpopit

Just use askmid, I do it all the time 😂no one has jumped out of the laptop to arrest me just yet 😂🤣🤣
So it's OK breaking the law by accessing the AskMID database but it's not OK breaking the law driving without insurance? Confused

How on earth do you differentiate which laws you abide by? Is it just the convenient ones by any chance?

Or is it that laws apply to other people but not to you?

Unfortunately 'standing up' to people like this is highly likely to result in a broken window, keyed car or worse. As a car and homeowner (and being the only adult in the house) I am too concerned about my own safety. Especially as in any previous incidents of criminal damage, burglary etc I've experienced the police have been completely disinterested. I've accepted there is nothing I can do here other than hope that they get reported or move.

The problem with reporting someone anonymously is that someone innocent within the family or circle of friends may get blamed making their lives unnecessarily difficult.

Confiscatedpopit · 16/10/2021 20:50

Fat Fred- bit of a weird one that comment- where have I said that I would report this neighbour for their MOT? I wouldn’t?

Confiscatedpopit · 16/10/2021 20:53

And yes some laws are daft. Fortunately I have a working brain and work out myself which ones I feel more strongly about than others. Driving around without insurance is far worse than checking if a vehicle has it on a public website- if you are going to try and tell me different then you are just being an arse.

See this is an old thread, was looking up a similar issue, about no MOT. Crimestoppers is where one should report it to. Its annonymous too so no worries of it coming back on you.
