DH nearly knocked woman flying

OneFlewOverTheOwlsNest · 11/10/2021 08:41

We were due to travel to Dublin and the security at the airport was ridiculously long - we were not going to make the flight. Once through security we literally sprinted to the gate, once there DH charged at the woman who was just closing the gate, she turned just in time to see him flying towards her and screamed “SHIT!!!” As he crashed into her - he caught her before she fell and breathlessly asked “we were stuck in security!”
She opened the gate back up and called the mini bus thing to come back whilst explaining that the two missing passengers had arrived - and nearly took her out in the process. I was mortified. The bus came back for us and the woman started laughing and said “Jesus, I need a drink”. I apologised profusely and she said it was ok, she just assumed she was being attacked for a minute. She then apologised for swearing (!!)
Once we were on the plane the pilot came on the tannoy apologising for the delay explaining that they had to wait for two late passengers. Everyone looked at us. I have never forgotten it and I do laugh when I think back but Christ, he could’ve been arrested!

Feeling shit today, AIbU to ask for your holiday disaster stories? (Lighthearted!!)

Also - AIbU to laugh about this now - years later - despite how “wrong” it was at the time?

To thjose who asked what OPs DP could have been arrested for - assault? Potential terrorist activity (trying to board a plane without showing a pass)?

It's really not funny - ad those of us who've worked in airports see it all the time. It's not a one-off, funny story - it's at least once a week. Latecomers. Amblers. My-time-is-more-important-ers. The-plane-won't-leave-without-me, I've-bought-a-ticket-ers.

It's just not funny, it gets old really fast. And as in this case, potentially harmful and dangerous - to the gate staff.

I bet. And I’ve never worked in an airport but I’d imagine that having a man deliberately charge at you and smash into you when you’re trying to close a gate is absolutely terrifying when working in an environment where a terrorist attack is a very real possibility.

@DogsandCatsB4u

Glad she was okay about it he needs to watch himself. My DP can be a bit inconsiderate of women too and I go mad at Him
God, really? Just women? Hmm
Nondescriptname · 12/10/2021 11:38

Traala yes, some men can be a bit inconsiderate of women - to the point they might actually injure them, or at least terrify them. (tee-hee) Hmm

Ozanj · 12/10/2021 11:41

You should allow 3 hours to check in and pass security for international flights. If you do then there isn’t a need to knock out random women to board flights.

Nondescriptname · 12/10/2021 15:42

Ozanj that's fine but doesn't always work if you are on a connecting flight.

Never a need to.

@OneFlewOverTheOwlsNest

Well this thread cheered me up just as intended 😁 both the accounts of people who took the thread in the spirit it was intended and the sour faces who can’t wait to piss on someone’s cornflakes 😂
This sort of comment is why people are posting snarky comments to the op.

Piss on someone’s cornflakes ffs. Zero understanding for what it is like to be disabled, elderly or infirm.

Nondescriptname · 12/10/2021 16:13

To women on here - if you were running to the departure gate, as in the OP, would you barge full tilt straight into a person standing there?
I'd guess No.

I think you’re right. Because quite apart from anything else, the person being knocked over is also the person who almost certainly has to check your boarding card and passport, so rugby tackling her in your desire to hurl yourself through the boarding gate isn’t going to get you onto the plane without her say so.

Oh don’t make this a gender issue This is an inconsiderate and thoughtless person

Similar happened to me 3 years ago. It was a woman.

Pythonista · 12/10/2021 17:57

I think it's the finding it hilarious that's the issue

Agreed But again it’s both a male and female that did
Morgysmum · 12/10/2021 18:03

I don't have any thing like this, but the last few times I have been to the airport, I always get stopped by security, for a stop and search, I don't set the metal detector off, but get asked, can they search me.
It's not like I am going to say no, as then they would think I have something to hide. (could be why they choose me) it would be alright it the person was fit looking guy, but sadly not, the last was a very butch looking lady.

Notmrsfitz · 12/10/2021 18:12

This is truly terrible.
We were delayed by hours on a late flight - I was exhausted,we managed to get 2 seats together in a very overcrowded waiting area.
Dp got up to go to the toilet leaving his hand luggage and (expensive camera) next to me.
A woman arrived in the area - came over to where I was sat and literally flung my partners bag and camera to the floor, I said very nicely that someone was sitting there and she proceeded to shout at me that she needed the seat !!!! At this point the bag toppled over and the camera hit the floor - so exhausted and irritated was I that I stood up and faced her up told her to put my luggage back where it was and literally go away …..a few other passengers backed me up…. Then …… she announced she needed the seat for her one legged husband who came through as we were in a face off and did indeed have just one leg- unfortunately at this point my partner came out of the toilet to see me and other passengers shouting at this woman with the one legged husband and rushed over telling me to calm down and trying to explain to the woman I was just fraught and not myself 😡 and of course she could have our seat for her husband … the passenger who had verbally backed me up said to dp she’s literally just chucked your luggage on the floor and abused your partner.
Anyway dp sat down next to the one legged man and some teenage girls invited me to sit with them, so I left dp and nobody offered to give the one legged husbands wife their seat.

This story is always brought up at any holiday time when ‘not Mrs Fitz decided to pick a fight with the one legged man’

restingbitchface30 · 12/10/2021 18:12

I almost got arrested at Cagliari airport! The staff there are so unbelievably rude. That with my flight being delayed led to me losing my cool massively with security. He barked at me ‘get over here now’ for no reason at all when we tried to get through security. I just lost it! My partner was mortified. Regret it now but at the time I just saw red!

CBroads · 12/10/2021 18:21

@simitra

The posters who say you should have gone directly to the front of the line are correct. I have always done so. It pays to be polite but assertive.

If you miss the plane and your cases are booked on the flight it means endless problems and will cause a delay anyway while they search in the hold for your bags to offload them! You dont have to worry about getting dirty looks from the people in the queue because you are never going to meet them again.

Sorry but if I'd have been queueing for ages and you tried to cut infront of me because you have poor time management, you've got another thing coming mate, to the back of the line you go 😂
waitingpatientlyforspring · 12/10/2021 18:34

Similar story op.

I had a trip to Dublin for a friend's special birthday. To save money I flew back on a monday which was also the day if my final uni exam. Also flew into an air post two hours away as cheaper..

While at the airport I seemed to misremembered the flight time so I'm merrily shopping while a tannoy keeps asking for a missing passenger- not my name! I get to the airport and they ask
I'm this name they have been calling. It seems they got my name wrong and I nearly missed my flight. I had to be driven to the plane by car!

So very nearly three years of uni ruined (I failed the module the exam was for as well 😂 but that was probably less to do with my stressful flight back from dunlin to England and more not attending enough lectures!)

GreyhoundG1rl · 12/10/2021 18:49

An awful lot of strange people travelling to Dublin Hmm

Allybob88 · 12/10/2021 18:51

Oh we have had a couple. My favourite (although very embarrassing at the time)...flight to Isle of Man for work. On the total last minute as I'd had to go back home when I realised I'd forgot my purse with my photo ID for travel in. Ran through the airport in no shoes, begged the woman to re open the gate, she radioed the ground staff and they agreed so they let me through, only the back steps open and I was sat on the front row so had to walk past everyone like a walk of shame. Get in my seat having already delayed everyone and I'm in the exit seat so delayed further whilst they explained the safety process to me! I'm sure everyone on that flight wanted to murder me.

@UnemotionalVelvet

Yet again, MN has a humour bypass...
I know! I'm eye-rolling like mad at some of the comments! Jesus Christ I have no idea why I'm even on MN except it makes me feel so relieved I'm a nice person
Pythonista · 12/10/2021 19:03

I have never been on a plane but i hope someone can explain to me why inconveniencing others is so funny?

Yeah, all the nicest people find stories about men deliberately causing women fear and distress hilarious.

Seriously, you've self identified as a "nice person" because you found this utter bilge funny?

Whatever you say, dear...

Woah calm your tits dear. I never said it was hilarious, but OP asked for light hearted disaster stories, not a bollocking for something her husband once did which was awful at the time, but which she can now find the funny side of. Life is often awful, but finding a bit of humour, albeit dark, is not a bad thing. Maybe you should try it Confused
