I am late 40s and recently noticed I feel like I ache all over every morning when I wake up. Is this normal and just part of getting old?!

Doesn't matter if I've been for a jog or cycled to work the day before or have just been at home I still have muscle aches and just feel knackered.

My DDs are 14 and 12 so they're not too much work physically like they used to be when toddlers etc. I work 4 days pw so not excessively long hours.

Pls someone tell me it's not going to be like this from now on!! Wink

I'm 40 and I have either permanent aches, indigestion or a headache. It's crap.

oldandachy · 10/10/2021 13:55

Oh dear... Sad hopefully we'll get someone along soon who'll say the opposite to us and we'll have some hope that it could get better!!

I was so stiff in the mornings in my late 30's that it took me about 5m moving to stand upright. I went to dr who basically said that we are all getting older and it took him a good few days to recover from a rugby match as he was older now.
I got a new mattress and problem magically disappeared 😂

AuntieMarys · 10/10/2021 14:27

No! I'm 61 and wake up fine...sometimes a stiff neck from sleeping funny. I exercise regularly, and take magnesium and turmeric.

Piapiano · 10/10/2021 14:27

My legs ache waking up the stairs and my arms ache hanging up laundry. I'm actually fairly fit and strong so not sure why my muscles seems to tire so easily now. I'm mid 40s.

Piapiano · 10/10/2021 14:27

Lower back also feels stiff when I get up after sitting in a chair for a while.

oldandachy · 10/10/2021 14:30

I got a new mattress 2 years ago and my back felt sooo much better but now I'm back to square one Grin. Maybe I'll just have to except I'm just getting old!!

Perimenopause? I have early menopause and on top of the reported symptoms also lots of random aches and pain, weird shooting pains that come and go. Definitely better since taking HRT, though I appreciate it's not for everyone.

oldandachy · 10/10/2021 14:32

Great news Auntiemarys!! There is hope! Do you exercise a lot? What is your secret?!

Are you on HRT? I went on it (for night sweats) and now I don't get morning aches and pains either.

Didn't think of peri menopause- maybe that's it... everything still working like clockwork but maybe things changing that I'm not aware of yet and that's why I'm aching....

Unfortunately I can't go on HRT... my mum did and got multiple blood clots. Turns out I have the same genetic condition so maybe I'll just have to put up with it Confused

I go through phases of getting loads of aches and pains - but not at present. And not for ages.
I'm 54, lost a fair bit of weight in the last 6 months (due to not liking the aches and pains), go to the gym regularly and have changed my job. Not sure which of those was a factor if not all of them.
I do still get a sore back if I've been sat down for ages, but just make sure I get up and stretch my legs occasionally if I'm watching telly.

Weirdly I’m really struggling with this the last few weeks. I was ill with a virus so I dont know if there might be a connection but I have terrible ankle and knee pain, shin pain and pain where my legs meet my backside. I honestly don’t know what’s going on. I’m wondering now if it’s hormones.

FreeBritnee · 10/10/2021 14:47

I’ve even just done another covid test incase the ones a did a few weeks back were wrong. It’s a little bit scary to feel so crap on my legs.

missfliss · 10/10/2021 14:48

Not attempting to diagnose you - but speaking from recent personal experience ( I'm 44 and a regular runner / swimmer) - I've just started HRT and one of the additional bonuses I've noticed is as I've relied of many of the non-specific aches and pains that I'd just assumed was inevitable ageing

Turmeric and Omega 3 sorted me out.

ThinWomansBrain · 10/10/2021 14:51

I'm a bit older - but excrutiating pain when I try to get to sleep, generally drift off at 5-6am.
Problem diagnosed - one medication, that causes side effects, cycle of alternating medication between the problem and the side effects.

MayorGundersonsDogRufus · 10/10/2021 14:59

I am 44. I have a bad back and yes, it hurts all the time, some days worse than others.

romany4 · 10/10/2021 15:00

It's peri menopause.
I'm 49. I ache a lot

I had Covid back in December but still can't taste or smell normally although it's slowly coming back. You've made me wonder if it's some sort of long Covid? Hope you feel better soon FreeBritnee

I began aching in my early to mid 40s - Began exercising and themrning ahces and pains went away. I'm late 50s now, and if I let the exercise slide, then I struggle to get downstairs in the morning, but if I get weight training and Insanity-ing again, it all goes away.

oldandachy · 10/10/2021 15:06

So if it's peri menopause or long Covid I will be pleased as it will end at some point I hope!! The idea of aching all the time for the rest of my life doesn't fill me with joy! Wink I think I'll try turmeric and eating more salmon too. I have a pretty healthy diet and BMI of 21 so don't think it's that....
