I am late 40s and recently noticed I feel like I ache all over every morning when I wake up. Is this normal and just part of getting old?!

Doesn't matter if I've been for a jog or cycled to work the day before or have just been at home I still have muscle aches and just feel knackered.

My DDs are 14 and 12 so they're not too much work physically like they used to be when toddlers etc. I work 4 days pw so not excessively long hours.

Pls someone tell me it's not going to be like this from now on!! Wink

@ChristmasFluff

I began aching in my early to mid 40s - Began exercising and themrning ahces and pains went away. I'm late 50s now, and if I let the exercise slide, then I struggle to get downstairs in the morning, but if I get weight training and Insanity-ing again, it all goes away.
And I'll keep exercising- going to a yoga class this evening Smile

I’m 25 and dee like this! I’m crippled at night and most mornings! My dr told me it’s lack of vitamin D which gives you sore muscles and joints.

Do you take any multi vitamins?

I love long hot baths at night it really helps.

I have fibromyalgia and ache all the time, particularly first thing. Fibromyalgia can be triggered by physical or emotional trauma or viral illness so it could be a post Covid thing although obviously there are other causes of aches as well as fibromyalgia.

I'm 63 and have rheumatoid arthritis. Mostly it's well controlled and I don't wake up with aches and pains.
If it's flaring I wake up in pain all over and it usually improves to some extent as the day goes on. So waking up in pain isn't normal and is a sign something is wrong in my case.

I am stiff and achy in the mornings, but a walk with the dogs always sorts it out

Always thought it was due to doing too much sport Grin as only hit into sport mid 40s

Do you ache all day?

Wildheartsease · 10/10/2021 15:22

I and now 58 and have aches and pains unless I do a few minutes of yoga 'warm-up' stretches each day. The stretches don't seem likely to do any good... but I always find that I get better after doing them for a few days.

The effect of the stretches can last a few days and I think that I don't need to do them (so stop) but then the aches return.

I'm late 40s and have arthritis in my knee now, I hobble when I first get up. I also have a bad neck from time to time. All down to injuries I got doing a certain sport in my 20s thinking I was indestructible and injuries didn't need to be taken seriously Hmm

Wildheartsease · 10/10/2021 15:26

I use one of the warm-up sequences from the
WorkoutLabs YOGA CARDS - Beginners
The moves are easy to do and don't take long.
(Brushing your teeth correctly is harder.)

oldandachy
I do 4 spin classes a week, weights and go walking ...anything up to 8 miles 2 or 3 times a week.

ghostyslovesheets · 10/10/2021 15:29

51 and no not really - only if I've had a hard weights workout the night before or a tough run - but not generally no

oldandachy · 10/10/2021 15:46

Thanks everyone- some really useful tips. Sometimes the aches disappear during the day but today for example all I have done is 2 loads of washing and tidying the kitchen and I'm still aching!! I don't drink much normally (a glass of wine a week?) but had 1.5 glasses of wine last night so wonder if that affects you too?? I don't have a hangover or anything but that probably hasn't helped Blush

I think I'll try out the helpful suggestions and give myself 2-3 months and see if things improve and then maybe check with my gp if there's no change just to make sure it's nothing to worry about

Late 50s and only ever have aches when I’ve done something truly unusual the day or two before - eg very long strenuous hike or really major heavy gardening job (wheelbarrows and skips type job.
Otherwise I have never had any ‘general aches’ at all. Yet ! Monvs if you have arthritis or rheumatism etc EGM mornings are worst before you kind of loosen up b

I did at 41 but I don't at 50 (on HRT). I'm not super fit and am obese and I ran the London marathon for 6+ hours last week and I only ached for one day, mildly stiff Tuesday, fine by Wednesday. I'd say that's pretty good going. Strength training is really important as you get older, I do BodyPump.

Wow I'm in awe of you! To do the marathon at all is amazing and then to recover so quickly is truly impressive. I'll look into body pump too. Worried it might be a step too far for me though!!!
