It’s on my inner thigh and it’s a proper killer!

Picture included although it’s not in a great place Blush

It’s soft and spongy to touch. It’s very painful when I walk.

I’ve drawn a circle around it in case the redness spreads.

You need to apply some heat to it with a flannel and I'd put a dressing over it to stop any clothing rubbing it.

JuneOsborne · 07/10/2021 16:54

Over in sporner corner, they'd be telling you stick a sterile needle in that. Or go to your GP.

I know which I'd do. GP.

Allywill · 07/10/2021 16:56

GP. You may need antibiotics- boils are like icebergs in that what shows above the skin can be a small percentage of what lies underneath.

LittleMissRainbows · 07/10/2021 16:57

The problem with seeing my GP is that I’m currently self isolating as I’m waiting for a PCR test result so I won’t be able to go into the surgery ☹️

My surgery don't want to see anyone! They'd do a telephone consultation and ask for photos. Then thwyd send the prescription to the pharmacy and of your isolating, the pharmacy would deliver your prescription through the letter box.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 07/10/2021 17:05

Sporner corner, pronto. For our medical expertise.

Fireplace12 · 07/10/2021 17:06

It doesn’t appear infected so I’d just stick a pin in it and drain it. If it gets infected you might need a five day course of flucloxicillin.

NotMyCat · 07/10/2021 17:12

Keep an eye on it
Painkillers
Warm moist compresses regularly, and keep clothing off it

Therunecaster · 07/10/2021 19:46

Did anyone else think this was a nipple!

Pippa12 · 07/10/2021 20:03

Don’t touch it. Contact your GP and it’s likely they’ll prescribe ABXs. I have had a few boils, once leading to cellulitis. You really don’t want that!

cantgetmyheadroundit · 07/10/2021 20:05

I had a boil on my arse the size of a golf ball, that just burst on Sunday. It was horrendously painful, and I was at my wit's end.
A combination of magnesium sulphate paste, Sudocrem and hot water bottle applications were what got it in the end.
I feel for you, they're bloody awful. You might need antibiotics though, to be on the safe side.

Bagelsandbrie · 07/10/2021 20:06

I’d definitely stick a needle in that.

DeepaBeesKit · 07/10/2021 20:08

Cor blimey OP what have you put this in AIBU for? This is thursday night gold for Sporners Corner. Go post it there where it belongs.

At some point that bad boy's gotta be drained, don't forget a burst video is to sporners what a diagram is to a parking thread.

Charlieandlola · 07/10/2021 20:08

I’d put a blister plaster over it to stop it rubbing and also to dissipate it . Leave it on until it falls off . GP phone appointment for antibiotics if it gets hot and the redness spreads

IWantT0BreakFree · 07/10/2021 20:11

You should probably call the GP and do hot flannels etc.

If it was on my thigh I'd stick a needle in it though. Wouldn't be able to resist.

ProcrastinationIsMySuperPower · 07/10/2021 20:11

Slather it in magnesium sulphate if you have any, or use some heat to encourage it to come to a head. Pop a dressing on it to stop it chafing. If it gets any worse, speak to your GP but if you can get it to burst, it'll probably clear up quite quickly on it's own.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/10/2021 20:15

Don't use magnesium sulphate, apparently it's not recommended any more according to Sporners in their Corner . I find it a bit harsh. Warm water compresses on it, multiple times a day. Salty baths and then Savlon or Suducrem and cover with a non lint dressing- the sort for burns it's perfect. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 07/10/2021 20:16

And we want regular photographic updates please!!

Snowdropsandbluebells · 07/10/2021 20:16

Oh that looks super painful. I would ring for antibiotics 100 percent. Try a hot bath tonight and again in the morning. I had something like this under my arm and the pain was so so bad.

maddiemookins16mum · 07/10/2021 20:18

I get those in the same place. Warm flannel regularly makes a real difference.

CrotchetyQuaver · 07/10/2021 20:19

That needs antibiotics so contact GO. I don't see why they couldn't issue you with a prescription based on that photo. Be prepared for the antibiotics not to work and you end up calling 111 to get the wretched agonisingly painful thing lanced.

Can you tell I had one in pretty much the same spot? You might want to stick up on painkillers/anti inflammatories when you're picking up the prescription.

I found a pad of old school cotton wool over the boil/carbuncle held in place with cohesive bandage helped with the pain of walking around.

In the end mine burst whilst I was sat waiting to see the OOH doctor, he finished off the job and I had to keep going back for a couple of weeks to have it packed and the dressing changed.
Good luck

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 07/10/2021 20:21

Your GP can see photos and will probably prescribe antibiotics.

ScarletPower · 07/10/2021 20:25

This is a magnificent specimen of a boil OP.

Apologies that this is not helpful or probably what you want to hear. I'll get back to Sporners Corner. And maybe take the link with me. It would probably be really selfish to keep this to myself wouldn't it.....

babymidgetgem · 07/10/2021 20:43

Ooh that is a beauty! But yes, definitely contact GP, you will need meds.

TokenGinger · 07/10/2021 22:31

To deal with that, what you need to do is place your phone on a flat surface, switch on your front facing camera and click to record. Stand it front of it and stick a needle in. For extra safety measures, you could then squeeze either side of it, but only whilst standing as close to the camera as you can.

Then report back here with the video.
