Seem to have mastitis or it's a full blown absess now. It's so sore. I feel like shit. Too hot fever, leaking pus. Brian is foggy. Everywhere aches. Going to ring gp in half hour see what they say. ..

Any tips to help?

No tips to help, but that sounds horrific.
Get well soon

ChristmasWithDC · 07/10/2021 08:04

I’m sorry, mastitis awful. Have you got AB’s? I hope Brian clears up soon too.

SparklesAndFlowers · 07/10/2021 08:06

When breastfeeding I read that heat can help. A warm bath or a hot water bottle (wrapped in a towel or a cover) could relieve symptoms.

Orangedaisy · 07/10/2021 08:07

Yes get (horse pill sized) antibiotics ASAP, rest and fluids in the meantime plus warm compress. It’s an absolute bastard, the most ill I’ve ever felt, but get the pills in you and you’ll be right in no time. I remember the out of hours gp prescribed them for me and DP drove through fog at night for miles to the hospital pharmacy to get them for me. By the morning having had 2 doses it was so much better.

Brindille · 07/10/2021 08:19

Hot bath. Lie boob down in it and after 5 minutes or so try to express into the water.

Feed on that side as well if you can.

I hope you feel better soon.

GoWalkabout · 07/10/2021 08:20

Oh I remember it being awful. Hot compress, express as much as you can in the shower, get antibiotics and make sure people around you understand how shit it feels if they can help you out with anything.

Teacupsandtoast · 07/10/2021 08:23

Get in a hot as you can bear it bath and soak the boob. Express as much as you can in the bath then get baby on asap to feed. Paracetamol and some ibuprofen too. Hot and cold compress once baby has fed

MakingTheBestOfIt · 07/10/2021 08:26

I’m no expert but pus seems to imply an abscess.

I had an enormous one with DS and my tit is throbbing in sympathy with yours at the memory Sad

You need to be mindful of sepsis, so make sure you get it seen to ASAP and that your spouse/partner/etc knows the signs. Unlikely, but it happens.

Etinox · 07/10/2021 08:26

Cabbage leaves and antibiotics. Rest fluid and express into a hot bath. Flowers

ZenNudist · 07/10/2021 08:27

You may need ultrasound to check the absess or just have it aspirated (needle removal of pus).

I had absess with mastitis and it left a bloody great hole in my boob. Had to be packed by a nurse for weeks to heal.

Still got a dent in boob.

Please go back to doctor. Hopefully you're already on ABs.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 07/10/2021 08:27

Sounds like you need antibiotics.
Poor you

B1rthis · 07/10/2021 08:28

"Sepsis can be hard to spot. There are lots of possible symptoms.

Symptoms can be vague. They can be like symptoms of other conditions, including flu or a chest infection.

Sepsis is a life-threatening reaction to an infection.

It happens when your immune system overreacts to an infection and starts to damage your body's own tissues and organs.

You cannot catch sepsis from another person.

Sepsis is sometimes called septicaemia or blood poisoning."

from nhs website. Call your gp or 111 now.

DecorChange · 07/10/2021 08:40

Waiting for gp to ring back now. Feeling so shit. No antibiotics yet. I'm shivering yet to hot. Heart rate high too.

OP posts:
KellyMarieTunstall2 · 07/10/2021 08:47

I had this, I honestly thought I was going to die. I had IV antibiotics in hospital and surgery to drain the abscess. Ring 111.

MakingTheBestOfIt · 07/10/2021 08:49

Just seen your last update.

You need to assume that it could be sepsis. Actually use the word sepsis when you talk to your GP. If you don’t hear back very soon, just get yourself taken off to A&E. Do you have another adult home with you at the moment?

Didn’t want to worry you unnecessarily on my earlier post, but mine ruptured and I was very unwell, but too disoriented to realise how unwell I was.

MakingTheBestOfIt · 07/10/2021 08:52

When you speak to the GP / A&E staff don’t say “my breast hurts and I feel unwell”. Do say “I have a fever, my heart is racing and I feel very, very unwell. I have an infection in my breast and I am worried it could be sepsis”

SmileyClare · 07/10/2021 08:54

That sounds awful. You need anti biotics in you as soon as possible. Your gp should be able to send a prescription digitally to your nearest pharmacy and if marked as "urgent" will be there today.

Agree it's worth keeping sepsis in mind although please don't get into a panic. Hold a hot water bottle on it?

Do you have anyone there with you to help? It would be good if someone else could pick up your prescription and if painkillers.
Careful hug avoiding your boob from me Flowers

BlackeyedSusan · 07/10/2021 08:58

Yep, clearly your brain is not well as it is now identifying as the old bloke over the road.

Dr's ASAP

Get well soon.

underneaththeash · 07/10/2021 09:07

It's really unpleasant OP, but the antibiotics do usually kick in quickly.
As a PP said, don't be fobbed off.

SeptemberSongs · 07/10/2021 09:09

This should be treated urgently with high dose antibiotics. The GP needs to prescribe you the antibiotics today. It should clear up quickly once you start appropriate treatment.

minipie · 07/10/2021 09:09

Is anyone with you OP? You really do need antibiotics ASAP.

I agree make sure you use the word sepsis.

gingerlyme · 07/10/2021 09:12

I would seek medical advice. Many years ago, I had to have mastitis drained. It was awful I still look at the scar and think 🤔😞

LaikO · 07/10/2021 09:14

If the GP doesn't call back soon I'd call 111. I've had mastitis and I felt bad, not as bad as you but still quite unwell - they still prescribed antibiotics fairly urgently.

Couchbettato · 07/10/2021 09:16

If it's already turned into an abscess then you need to go to A&E because it can easily turn into sepsis.

This is what all our health visitors advise when they come across this in the community. Some may ring ahead and refer you to a minor injuries unit if you've got one available.

DecorChange · 07/10/2021 09:17

No one with me atm. Just two kids. I'll ring mum to see if she can come. Antibiotics ordered got to pick them up this afternoon. Said if I feel no better in 24 hours head to a and e
