Boris says we’re going to be gossiped about

If we don’t get back to the office.

The only person being gossiped about is you Boris, you immoral, philandering, misogynistic, incompetent clown.

"If your job can be done remotely from
the UK, it can be done remotely from Eastern Europe/China/India just as well. You might want to think about this, too."

Absolute nonsense. I work in outsourced services - native language skills, cultural fit, local travel for team building, time zones, etc are all important. I could get great price deals moving all work to the Philippines, but that is not we want as a business.

Tealightsandd · 05/10/2021 19:17

native language skills, cultural fit

So would you discriminate against a non British born migrant?

Nightbringer · 05/10/2021 19:18

@Tealightsandd

Why?

I've never advocated for full-time WFH.

I'm very supportive of more flexible balance.

The key is balance.

There's a world of difference between 1/2 days at home and full-time.

But they could be gossiping while you aren't there.....oh the horror!!!

And if you worked out of the home full time, it would help the city centre businesses you are so worried for.

Never mind that loads of people never went near a city centre when commuting. So they could wfh full time and it won't impact a city centre business. Let's ignore that whilst claiming people must return to help businesses they never went to before.

And if going back part time is a must to help. Going back full time will help all these issues even more.

So I am guessing you will be giving up the balance, to go full time. Help out as much as you can. Show some solidarity to people who can't wfh at home. No?

Tealightsandd · 05/10/2021 19:19

I've worked with people from around the world. Right here in the UK. All of them were just as capable as the British born workers.

StripeyBadger · 05/10/2021 19:24

What is the difference in people working in different offices, being abroad or even just being on holiday or doing different hours? Surely if gossips wants to gossip, they will do so regardless?

My company is spread over multiple locations, worldwide. The majority of us who work together have only met on a few occasions, if at all. We don’t gossip.

onthinice · 05/10/2021 19:26

My job can be done from home but requires local knowledge, it also requires occasionall days in the office, so no one from abroad will be taking my job.

I will continue to work from home, not getting stuck in traffic and polluting the atmosphere with my car fumes.

He is a reactive prime minister incapable of taking any responsibility for both his own actions and those of his party and their policies over the last decade. Keeping wages low and and market forces are very much part of Tory policy. He will never admit that Brexit, and importantly the way he handled it, plays a huge part in where we are now. Luckily for him, a global pandemic (which he handled so badly it is arguable he has blood on his hands) gives him a get out. Yes people voted for Brexit- but the 49 % of those who voted to remain bloody knew that leaving the biggest free trading block would have these consequences. Boris just 'got Brexit done' and the mess we are in is all because people continue to work from home. He conviently forgets that his policies have lead to several lockdowns decimating huge parts of the economy and allowing some businesses to realise that they can make savings with a hybrid approach to working arrangements.

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 05/10/2021 19:34

More balance - as in couple of days at home a week - is also quite different from full-time permanent WFH.

More balance as in one or two days in the office and three or four days at home is better.

the mess we are in is all because people continue to work from home.

Why do you think wfh is causing a mess?

I don’t think that poster meant that that was an opinion she agreed with.
JesusIsAnyNameFree · 05/10/2021 19:41

@DixonD

It’s true though!
Not in offices with mature adults it isn't. Why are you and your colleagues gossiping about people? Got nothing better to do, like work perhaps?
littledrummergirl · 05/10/2021 19:42

After BJ BBC1 interview this morning where he came across as tone deaf his opinion means Jack shit in house.
He can fuck off and then fuck off some more.

MissAmbrosia · 05/10/2021 19:43

"native language skills, cultural fit

No, of course not. If they were dealing with UK customers they would have to speak excellent English (or Welsh etc) of course. Native languages SKILLS doesn't mean your mother tongue. Other countries tend to be much better than UK at foreign languages to be fair.

Gubanc · 05/10/2021 19:43

@FedUpOfBloodyCovid

*If your job can be done remotely from the UK, it can be done remotely from Eastern Europe/China/India just as well. You might want to think about this, too.*

Except that a lot of employers don’t want to have to deal with outsourced workers, overseas tax implications and non-native English speakers. I speak from experience.

So am I. HSBC for example has already started training people in Poland and laid off a lot of UK workforce.
Ijustknowitstimetogo · 05/10/2021 19:45

Well it's a very important issue. Huge numbers of livelihoods are at risk - with many knock on consequences.

Service businesses and shops in city centres are recovering already. We don’t all need to be packed in there like sardines. Businesses out in the suburbs are doing better out of WFH. It’s good to balance this commercial activity between city centres and local communities for a change.

I don't give a shit if people at work "gossip" about me!

I care uniquely about my own quality of life.

ConstanceGracy · 05/10/2021 19:49

But why are people still making excuses not to go into the office?
Bet you’re still going on holidays and eating out / going to the pub at the weekends…

Nightbringer · 05/10/2021 19:50

HSBC have been moving teams abroad and back for years. That's nothing new.

lljkk · 05/10/2021 19:51

It's not the government's job to fix problems in the economy?

That's the interesting thing, politically... Tories win the Elections but Labour win the policies. This Tory govt is much more interventionist high taxation than any Tory govt ... ever?

Market forces used to be left to control supply & demand of HGV drivers: now govt has firmly inserted themselves in the process (by controlling the supply directly). Tory govt are going to do this across a variety of sectors.

Small govt Tories are in descendency.

All very interesting for political nerds.

Nightbringer · 05/10/2021 19:52

Must admit I don't know anyone who is making excuses. They are being clear as to why they want hybrid/wfh.
Hillary17 · 05/10/2021 20:04

Gossip away! Like I care when I’m finally getting a lunch break for the first time in years and not spending an hour commuting each way. Gossip ahead if it gives me my 4 days at home Smile
